To the Angel of the Mormon Church Joseph Herrin (06-18-09) Angel Moroni atop a Mormon Temple A recent new article reported the following: New Mormon temple's angel struck by lightning Associated Press - June 15, 2009 6:44 PM ET SOUTH JORDAN, Utah (AP) - Mother Nature left her mark on a new Mormon temple over the weekend when a lightning strike hit the building, blackening the golden angel that tops it. The 60,000 square-foot Oquirrh Mountain Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints was hit Saturday during a rain storm. Church spokeswoman Kim Farah says no structural damage resulted from the strike on the Angel Moroni. She says a crew will re-gild the 10-foot-6-inch statue soon. Most Mormon temples are topped with a statue of the angel, who Mormons believe led church founder Joseph Smith to the golden plates from which the Book of Mormon originated. The Oquirrh temple is Utah's 13th and the 130th church temple worldwide. It will open in late August and will serve an estimated 83,000 Latter-day Saints. [End Article] You will note the prominence of the number 13 in this event. The Oquirrh Temple is Utah’s 13th Mormon Temple and the 130th Worldwide. The angel was struck by lightning on June 13th. Below is a picture of the Oquirrh Mountain Temple. Oquirrh Mountain Mormon Temple The main construction of the temple is complete, and it is open for the public to view, but dedication services and actual use of the Temple are not scheduled until August.

  • “Sole Survivor” Film Examines Emotions, Struggle
1 CONTENTS The Today Show USA Today Reader’s Digest The LA Times The Indianapolis Star what (not) to doc WKYT TV PBS’s Doc Soup Michigan Public Radio (NPR affiliate) LEX TV KARE TV Herald Leader The News Herald Huffington Post Windy City Times The Inquisitr USA Today The Detroit News Detroit Free Press Film Stew L Stop WYMT TV (CBS Affiliate) SYNOPSIS SUMMARY SOLE SURVIVOR profiles four people who, through the vagaries of fate, were the only survivors of otherwise fatal plane crashes. Having suffered through not only the physical trauma of a deadly crash, but also the emotional impact of losing family members, these survivors have been reluctant to share their stories. Eschewing sensationalism, SOLE SURVIVOR provides them with a sensitive platform to revisit their past and try to make sense of what it meant for them to survive when so many others lost their lives. In 1985, George Lamson was the lone survivor of Galaxy flight 203. Two decades later, George lives blocks from the accident site and still struggles with the emotional weight of his survival. In an effort to heal, he seeks to connect with the other thirteen sole survivors of commercial aviation disasters, including Cecelia Cichan, Bahia Bakari and Jim Polehinke - most of who have ever spoken publicly. Jim Polehinke was the co-pilot of Comair Flight 5191 that crashed in 2006. Jim lost the use of his legs in the accident, but when he woke up from his coma, the most devastating news was that everyone on the plane had perished. Jim's emotional struggle with his survivorship is underscored by the NTSB's findings that the plane crashed solely due to pilot error.
