San Jose became the first team to defeat Tampa Bay in regulation since Anaheim did so on Nov. 27 (3-1 W). * Karlsson has collected at least one assist/point in each of his last 12 appearances dating to Dec. 7 (1-18—19). He matched the franchise record for most consecutive personal appearances with at least one point, a mark set by Rob Gaudreau from Dec. 3-29, 1992 (14- 5—19 in 12 GP) and equaled by Jonathan Cheechoo from Dec. 26, 2005 – Jan. 24, 2006 (10- 9—19 in 12 GP). * Karlsson became the 21st different defenseman in NHL history to record at least one point in 12 or more consecutive appearances and just the third to do so in the last 20 years (since 1998- 99), joining Detroit’s Mathieu Schneider from Nov. 27 – Dec. 22, 2006 (2-13—15 in 12 GP) and Philadelphia’s Shayne Gostisbehere from Jan. 19 – Feb. 20, 2016 (5-13—18 in 15 GP). He became the 11th goaltender in franchise history to record at least one shutout within his first two career appearances with the team (NHL debut or otherwise) and first since Garret Sparks on Nov. 30, 2015 (3-0 W vs. EDM). * Auston Matthews (1-2—3) reached the 20-goal mark for the third time in as many NHL seasons (20-19—39 in 27 GP). He became the first Maple Leafs player to require 27 or fewer personal games to reach the 20-goal mark in a season since 1993-94, when Wendel Clark (20 GP) and Dave Andreychuk (27 GP) accomplished the feat. * Patrick Marleau skated in the 1,616th regular-season game of his NHL career and passed Larry Murphy (1,615) for sole possession of ninth place on the League’s all-time list. DID YOU KNOW? Twenty-five players have reached the 20-goal mark this season, including three on Saturday (Mike Hoffman, Auston Matthews and Mark Stone). The last campaign to feature as many 20-goal scorers through the first 644 games was 1996-97, when 30 players had reached the plateau. QUICK, KOPITAR REACH MILESTONES IN KINGS VICTORY Jonathan Quick (16 saves) and Anze Kopitar recorded their 300th career regular-season win and goal, respectively, as the Kings blanked the Oilers. * Quick (Milford, Conn.) became the fifth U.S.-born goaltender in NHL history to reach the 300- win milestone (36th overall), joining Ryan Miller (374), John Vanbiesbrouck (374), Tom Barrasso (369) and Mike Richter (301). * Kopitar, meanwhile, became the fifth player in franchise history to score 300 career goals with the Kings, joining Luc Robitaille (557), Marcel Dionne (550), Dave Taylor (431) and Bernie Nicholls (327). ISLANDERS EXTEND WIN STREAK TO SIX GAMES The Islanders scored four consecutive goals to erase a 2-0 deficit and pick up their sixth consecutive win. New York improved to 23-13-4 (50 points) this season and surpassed Montreal (22-15-5, 49 points) and Buffalo (22-14-6, 50 points) for the first Wild Card spot in the Eastern Conference standings. * Robin Lehner (29 saves) improved to 7-0-0 in his last seven appearances dating to Dec. 18 (1.22 GAA, .959 SV%, 1 SO). He became the fourth different goaltender in franchise history to record a personal win streak of at least seven games and first since Jaroslav Halak from Dec. 13, 2014 – Jan. 2, 2015 (7-0-0). WESTERN CONFERENCE-LEADING FLAMES RALLY PAST FLYERS Matthew Tkachuk (1-1—2) scored the tying goal with 4:17 remaining in regulation and TJ Brodie potted the overtime winner as the Western Conference-leading Flames improved to 26- 13-4 (56 points) this season, two points ahead of the idle Golden Knights (25-15-4, 54 points). Calgary rallied from a third-period deficit to win a game for the eighth time this season, tied with Montreal and Buffalo for the most such victories in 2018-19. * Tkachuk boosted his 2018-19 totals to 19-30—49 (43 GP) and matched his single-season career high for points, a mark he set in 2017-18 (24-25—49 in 68 GP). He is one of four Flames players averaging at least one point per game in 2018-19 (also Johnny Gaudreau, Sean Monahan and Elias Lindholm). * Calgary features four or more players each averaging at least one point per contest through 43 team games in a season (min. 35 GP) for the fifth time in franchise history and first since 1991- 92 (Al MacInnis, Theo Fleury, Gary Roberts and Doug Gilmour). ALSO OF NOTE . Other highlights from Saturday’s nine-game slate: * Tuukka Rask made 31 saves to backstop the Bruins to their fourth consecutive win. He earned the 249th regular-season win of his NHL career (all w/ BOS) and moved within three of tying Tiny Thompson (252) for the most by a goaltender in franchise history. * Seth Jones tallied 18 seconds into overtime to lift the Blue Jackets past the Panthers. Jones scored his seventh career regular-season overtime goal, tied for the most among NHL defensemen since he made his League debut on Oct. 3, 2013 (w/ Oliver Ekman-Larsson). * P.K. Subban collected two helpers against his former club to reach the 300-assist milestone and help the Predators defeat the Canadiens. Kotkaniemi (born July 6, 2000) became the third player in Canadiens franchise history to record 20 or more points before celebrating his 19th birthday, joining Mario Tremblay in 1974-75 (21- 18—39 in 63 GP) and Petr Svoboda in 1984-85 (3-18—21 in 49 GP). * Aaron Ekblad scored the 61st regular-season goal of his NHL career (all w/ FLA) and tied Robert Svehla for the most by a defenseman in Panthers franchise history. • Maurice Wants Production from Third, Fourth Lines with Nine Players in the Mix, Bottom Six Looks Crowded
Winnipeg Free Press https://www.winnipegfreepress.com/sports/hockey/jets/maurice-wants-production-from-third- fourth-lines-452913503.html Maurice wants production from third, fourth lines With nine players in the mix, bottom six looks crowded By: Mike McIntyre It’s getting awfully crowded at the bottom for the Winnipeg Jets. But the team’s growing list of depth players — believed to be a strength headed into this season — have provided next to nothing when it comes to offence. That’s creating a frustrating situation for head coach Paul Maurice as he tries to figure out his lineup card these days, especially with a pair of injured forwards set to return and further cloud the situation. Consider this: the Jets' third and fourth lines have yet to score a goal in five-on-five play through seven games this year, in which they've managed to go 4-3-0. Brandon Tanev and Joel Armia each have a short-handed tally, while Andrew Copp assisted on a shorty scored by defenceman Tyler Myers. As for the rest of the lot, Shawn Matthias has no points through seven games despite ample chances. Nic Petan has been blanked in his six games, which has included plenty of power-play time. Marko Dano has nothing through five and Adam Lowry was kept off the scoresheet for four games prior to being injured. Brendan Lemieux has one game under his belt since being recalled from the Moose, while veteran Matt Hendricks has yet to play this season but is expected to be in the lineup Thursday when the Jets battle the Penguins in Pittsburgh.

  • Injuries Continue to Plague Jets Seven Wounded Players Missed Saturday's Game
Winnipeg Free Press https://www.winnipegfreepress.com/sports/hockey/jets/injuries-continue-to-keep-jets-in-sick- bay-476497963.html?k=QAPMqC Injuries continue to plague Jets Seven wounded players missed Saturday's game By: Mike McIntyre WASHINGTON — Is there a doctor in the house? It’s been a common refrain for the Winnipeg Jets lately, as they just can’t seem to get close to a full, healthy lineup. Seven players were out due to injury in Saturday’s 2-1 loss in Philadelphia. Here’s what we know about all of them, with further updates expected today as the Jets return to action with a morning skate and then their game in Washington against the Capitals. Mark Scheifele has missed two games with a suspected shoulder injury, and there will be no rushing him back into action. He’s considered day-to-day at this point, and coach Paul Maurice had said last week he was a possibility to play either tonight, or tomorrow in Nashville. But don’t bet on it. Defenceman Toby Enstrom is battling a lower-body issue which kept him out for four games, saw him return in New Jersey last Thursday and then be back out on Saturday. Maurice said it’s a nagging thing that can change day-to-day, so his status is very much a question mark. Defenceman Dmitry Kulikov missed Saturday’s game after getting hurt Thursday in New Jersey. Maurice hasn’t said how long he could be out, only that it’s upper-body. Goalie Steve Mason has been sent back to Winnipeg for further testing on a lower-body injury he suffered late in the game against the New York Rangers last Tuesday, which was his first game back from his second concussion of the season.

  • Turnbull Hockey Pool For
Turnbull Hockey Pool for Each year, Turnbull students participate in several fundraising initiatives, which we promote as a way to develop a sense of community, leadership and social responsibility within the students. Last year's grade 7 and 8 students put forth a great deal of effort campaigning friends and family members to join Turnbull's annual NHL hockey pool, raising a total of $1750 for a charity of their choice (the United Way). This year's group has decided to run the hockey pool for the benefit of Help Lesotho, an international development organization working in the AIDS-ravaged country of Lesotho in southern Africa. From www.helplesotho.org "Help Lesotho’s programs foster hope and motivation in those who are most in need: orphans, vulnerable children, at-risk youth and grandmothers. Our work targets root causes and community priorities, including literacy, youth leadership training, school twinning, child sponsorship and gender programming. Help Lesotho is an effective, sustainable organization that is working at the grass-roots level to support the next generation of leaders in Lesotho." Your participation in this year's NHL hockey pool is very much appreciated. We believe it will provide students and their friends and families an opportunity to have fun together while giving back to their community by raising awareness and funds for a great cause. Prizes: > Grand Prize awarded to contestant whose team accumulates the most points over the regular NHL season = 10" Samsung Galaxy Tablet > Monthly Prizes awarded to the contestants whose teams accumulate the most points over each designated period (see website) = Two Movie Passes How it Works: > Everyone in the community is welcome to join in on the fun.
