Press Release Brian Smith Director of Communications Hockey East Association PRESS 591 North Ave – #2 Wakefield, MA 01880 Office: (781) 245-2122 RELEASE Cell: (339) 227-2988 [email protected] For Immediate Release: Friday, April 10, 2015 Jack Eichel Wins Hobey Baker Award BU Freshman Receives Honor Ahead of Saturday's National Championship Game WAKEFIELD, Mass. - Boston University freshman forward Jack Eichel (North Chelmsford, Massachusetts) has been named the winner of the 2015 Hobey Baker Memorial Award, given annually to the best player in NCAA Division I men’s ice hockey it was announced tonight. The award was given out at Matthews Arena in Boston in conjunction with the Frozen Four weekend. He is the second consecutive Hobey winner from Hockey East, as Boston College’s Johnny Gaudreau claimed the prize in 2014. Eichel becomes the first freshman winner of the Hobey Baker since Maine’sPaul Kariya won the award in 1993 after scoring 100 points (25g, 75a) in his rookie campaign for the Black Bears. Eichel’s 70 points this year (26g, 44a) is the highest total for an NCAA rookie since Kariya. He has helped lead the Boston University Terriers to the NCAA National Championship game for the first time since 2009, scoring two goals and adding an assist in Thursday night’s national semifinal, a 5-3 win over North Dakota at TD Garden in Boston. Eichel leads the NCAA in nearly every offensive category, pacing the nation in assists (44), points (70), assists per game (1.13), points per game (1.79), power-play points (23), and plus-minus (plus-51) in 39 games played. He was named both Hockey East Rookie of the Year and Hockey East Player of the Year on March 19. It marked the first time both awards have gone to the same player since the 1992-93 season when Kariya took home the honors and just the third time one skater has won the top accolades in league history (Brian Leetch/Boston College/1986-87). Eichel was also unanimously named to the Hockey East All-Rookie Team and the Hockey East First Team All-Star squad. The rookie center also earned HCA National Rookie of the Month in October and was honored as Hockey East Player of the Month in November and was selected as Hockey East Rookie of the Month in October, December, February and March. He was also named the recipient of the Tim Taylor Award, given to the nation’s top rookie. Further, Eichel was named the winner of three New England Hockey Writers awards, including the Leonard Fowle Award as the Most Valuable Player, the Herb Gallagher Award as the Forward of the Year, and the George C. Carens Award as Rookie of the Year. Eichel led Hockey East in scoring over his freshman campaign, turning in 14 goals and 30 assists for 44 points in 22 Hockey East games to earn the title of Squad Locker Scoring Champion. His 2.00 points per game tied for ninth on the all-time single-sea- son scoring list and is second all-time among rookies, while his 1.36 assists per game ranks sixth all-time in league history and second among freshman. With 44 total points, Eichel ranks sixth all-time on the rookie scoring list while his 30 assists tied for fourth in a single season. His 0.64 goals per game also tied him for eighth on the single-season rookie list. In March, Eichel was the leading scorer in the Hockey East Tournament, notching four goals and six assists for 11 points and finishing a plus-10 in four games played. The award was presented in conjunction with the 2018 Frozen Four in St. Paul. Gaudette was also named to the CCM/AHCA All-American First Team. Gaudette becomes the 10th player in Hockey East history to collect college hockey’s highest individual award, and the first since Boston College’sJohnny Gaudreau and Boston University’s Jack Eichel were so honored in consecutive seasons in 2014 and 2015, respectively. Criteria for the award includes displaying outstanding skills in all phases of the game, strength of character on and off the ice, sportsmanship and scholastic achievements. At a high level, we compare actual draft outcomes to teams’ perfect draft outcomes. The perfect draft can be thought of as what would happen if a general manager (GM) could redo a draft with complete knowledge of prospects’ career values as well as other teams’ choices. A prospect’s career value is defined here as aggregate Point Shares (from hockey-reference.com ) through the 2015-16 NHL season, though any valuation metric can be used. When drafting perfectly, a GM picks the best player available as is commonly prescribed, but they start with their last pick and work backwards.

Then Alex Ovechkin scored twice during a four-goal rally and the Capitals beat the Buffalo Sabres 5-2 to extend their winning streak to nine games and overtake the Dallas Stars for the NHL points lead. "Tonight, you saw some backbone when it was needed," Washington coach Barry Trotz said. "It (was) an opportunity for guys to step up and they did. There wasn't any excuses." The four-goal third period came after the team lost forward Jay Beagle to an upper-body injury and center Nicklas Backstrom to an unspecific injury in the second period. Beagle will undergo surgery and miss significant time. Backstrom's injury was not disclosed and he could play Thursday at the Carolina Hurricanes. Washington already was playing without top defenseman John Carlson, out with a lower-body injury. Despite that, the Capitals turned around Buffalo's 2-1 lead quickly. "We are pretty relentless as a team," Washington goalie Braden Holtby said. "(Obviously, the injuries) makes it tougher. Those guys play a huge role on our team but we are just going to have to find different ways to win if they are out. " Trotz shifted Marcus Johansson from left wing to center and moved Evgeny Kuznetsov to center on the top line.

He didn’t even glance at a group of New York Islanders swarming forward Matt Martin to celebrate their fifth goal Thursday night. Dahlin, now a 20-year-old defenseman and 164 games into a National Hockey League career that began with his selection first overall at the 2018 draft, skated toward the Buffalo Sabres’ bench and used his right hand to lift his stick in the air to signal for a line change. Martin, a fourth-line grinder known more for his right hook than scoring touch, had just skated by Dahlin and across the front of the Sabres’ net before jamming the puck past goalie Jonas Johansson to seal the Islanders' 5- 2 win. In years past, Dahlin’s frustration might have boiled over. One of the NHL’s bright young defensemen, Dahlin has grown accustomed to the sometimes overwhelming emotion that comes with failure. He’s experienced more than his fair share during his third season in the NHL. Entering Monday, Dahlin owned a league-worst minus-21 rating – on pace for minus-75 if this were an 82-game season – and advanced metrics illustrate how he’s struggling at times to adjust to a bigger role defensively. “It comes (down to forgetting) things, it comes (down) to working harder,” Dahlin said matter of factly. “You are allowed to get (upset) at yourself.
