Homoseksualūs asmenys šiandieninėje visuomenėje, tiek Lietuvoje, tiek uţsienyje, tapo pakankamai matoma grupė, todėl natūralu, kad kyla susidomėjimas homoseksualių ţmonių gyvenimo, bendravimo, jų tarpusavio santykių bei santykių su kitais heteroseksualios ir heteronormatyvios visuomenės nariais ypatumais. Viena iš naujausių lingvistikos mokslo šakų tiria homoseksualių ţmonių kalbėsenos ir kalbos vartojimo ypatumus. Šis darbas – tai kuklus bandymas bent paviršutiniškai paţvelgti į šią naują lingvistikos mokslo šaką, kol kas netyrinėta Lietuvoje. Studija yra padalyta į dvi dalis: pirmojoje, teorinėje dalyje apie alternatyviąsias seksualines tapatybes aiškinami kai kurie homoseksualumo sociologiniai aspektai, bei bendrais bruoţais pristatomos Lietuvos ir Jungtinių Valstijų homoseksualų bendruomenės. Taip pat teoriškai grindţiama seksualinio identiteto ir kalbos sąveika. Teorinėje dalyje pristatomi anksčiau atlikti mokslininkų tyrimai sociolingvistikos, seksologijos ir sociologijos srityse bei paaiškinamos gėjų komunikacijos strategijos, kuriomis remiantis praktinėje dalyje šifruojami homoseksualių asmenų bendravimo ypatumai. Praktinėje šio darbo dalyje pristatomas 2010 m. balandţio mėn. Vytauto Didţiojo universitete atliktas studentų poţiūrio į homoseksualumą tyrimas bei analizuojama medţiaga iš amerikiečių televizijos serialo Queer as Folk praktiškai tiriant seriale homoseksualių ţmonių vartojamą kalbą. Aiškinamasi, kaip jų (homo)seksualinis identitetas atsiskleidţia (arba kitaip tariant yra konstruojamas) per kalbą, kurią jie vartoja. Šioje dalyje praktiškai analizuojami iš serialo paimti homoseksualių ţmonių kalbėsenos ypatumai, remiantis gėjų komunikacijos strategijomis, kurios sudaro prielaidą vertinti homoseksualių ţmonių kalbėjimo ypatumus kaip atskirą sociolingvistinį fenomeną. Be pagrindinių penkių skyrių, darbe pateikiamos išvados, naudotos literatūros sąrašas, bei priedai. Priede A pateikiamas studentų apklausos tyrimui naudotas klausimynas. "Bitch" is not a classifiable thing, only a label produced by the act of name-calling. As it has been used in several recent instances, the word indicates that what men fear and despise most in women is power. FULL TEXT We were discussing Mary McCarthy's The Group in a course called Women Writers and Literary Tradition. McCarthy's biographer Carol Gelderman, I told the class, had been intrigued by how often critics called Mary McCarthy a bitch. I read a few citations. "Her novels are crammed with cerebration and bitchiness" (John Aldridge). "Her approach to writing [is] reflective of the modern American bitch" (Paul Schlueter). Why McCarthy? a student asked. Her unrelenting standards, I ventured, her tough-minded critical estimates--there was no self-censoring, appeasing Angel in the House of Mary McCarthy's brain. Her combativeness (her marital battles with Edmund Wilson became the stuff of academic legend). Maybe there were other factors. But the discussion opened up to the more inclusive issue of the word bitch itself. What effect does that appellation have on women? What effect might it have had on McCarthy? No one ever called Edmund Wilson a bitch. Do we excuse, even pay respect when a man is critical, combative, assertive? What is the male equivalent of the word bitch, I asked the class. "Boss," said Sabrina Sims. This was an evening class at a branch of the City University of New York.

    Homosexuals in Unexpected Places? A Comment 61 Homosexuals in Unexpected Places? A Comment John Howard Laying foundations for future historians and theorists of gender and sexuality beyond the metropolis, these rising scholars demonstrate that the rural is complex physical and intellectual terrain, immensely productive, brimming with queer possibilities. I’ll begin my comments by addressing Scott Herring’s provocative paper, which employs theoretical concepts of use to all. Then, I’ll comparatively assess aspects of Nicholas Syrett’s and Colin Johnson’s historical studies. I’ll close with an attempt to put Mary Gray’s vitally important contemporary study into conversation with these earlier treatments of gender transgressive, homoeroticized spheres—as well as a recent problematic series in the Washington Post, which suggests we must remain ever alert to the need to deconstruct urbanist accounts of queer life in the countryside. In his stimulating and very smart readings of the photographs of Michael Meads, Scott Herring offers countless insights into the complex dialectics of the country and the city, rural and metro, the normative (both gay and straight) and the queer (hetero and homo), the here-and-now and the there-and-then. He productively theorizes anachronistic time. And he positions Meads’s work as a crucial intervention into or perhaps against one clearly-discernible trajectory of representation. It “agitates a visual tradition of urban gay male spectatorship,” “wrecking” it, scrambling it, muddling it. He concludes that the “anachronism” of Michael Meads’s work challenges. Now, in hopes of enhancing Herring’s incredibly helpful interpretations, I must say that I think both the anachronism and thus the challenge are just a bit overstated.
