2008 NDIA MEMBER DIRECTORY NATIONAL DEFENDER INVESTIGATOR ASSOCIATION PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE 2008 The National Defender Investigator Association is a not-for-profit association comprised of defense investigators and paralegals in the United States and its territories. NDIA’s purpose is to provide training and education for the investigative arm of indigent defense. This is provided each year at our National conference each spring and our Regional conference each fall in different parts of the country, on a rotating basis. The NDIA offers its members diverse networking and information services. The NDIA website (www.ndia.net) which has just been re-designed, contains information on membership, certification, conferences and a copy of past newsletters. There is also a “Members Only” section of the website accessible only to NDIA members. In the “Members Only” section job openings can be posted along with any other general announcements you would want to inform the membership about. Group e-mails to the members can also be sent via the website and other members can be contacted for assistance simply by searching the member information listings. The NDIA web master is member James Tarter, ([email protected]) of Nashville. Please e-mail James any information regarding job openings or announcements you would like posted. NDIA members can go into the site and update their own information such as address change etc. The Eagle’s Eye is NDIA’s newsletter, edited by James Tarter, Sr., which is published online, four times a year, March, June, September and December. The newsletter can also be e- downloaded on Adobe Acrobat for printing. The 2008 Regional Conference will be held September 4 & 5, 2008 in Austin, Texas, and the 2009 National Conference will be April 1-3 in Daytona Beach, Florida. For more information on these meetings go to the website or call Beverly at the NDIA office (860) 635-5533. We hope you will participate in the conferences. On behalf of the NDIA Board of Directors, thank you for your continued support and participation in your association, the NDIA. Matt Whalen President The National Defender Investigator Association (NDIA) is the only international organization to represent a constituency dedicated solely to the investigative arm of indigent defense. The NDIA has maintained its leadership role largely through a dedicated membership and through volunteer efforts. The Board of Directors is comprised of three General Officers and four Area Directors. The General Officers serve a two-year term and are nominated and elected by the entire membership. The Area Directors serve a two-year term and are nominated and elected by the regional membership. General Officers and Area Directors are elected in alternating years. All officers must be full-time Defender investigators. This election process provides the membership with excellent representation and addresses regional interests and concerns as well. The NDIA has also established itself as one of the premier national training programs in its conduct of its National and Regional training seminars. Some of the foremost authorities in the criminal defense and forensic science fields have taught and lectured for these training vehicles. Many participants have brought this useful information back to their own office’s and shared it with other staff. Many of the information and contacts learned at these seminars have been utilized in the defense of other indigent clients. The NDIA also has had long established liaisons with the National Legal Aid and Defender Association and the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers. The NDIA also maintains close contact and liaisons with a number of other Defender Associations and Defender Investigator Associations across the country and has provided input and leadership toward the establishment of these types of organizations in a number of states. Many members of the NDIA have taught and lectured for a variety of professional criminal defense organizations across the country as well as a number of colleges and universities. Please review our web site and join us. It will be worth the experience!
