TimBen Boydston Director’s Notes I loved watching Happy Days when I was a kid. All those cool teenagers hanging out at Arnolds, drinking milkshakes and dancing all the time- I couldn’t wait to be a teenager! When I heard Garry Marshall had turned it into a musical, I was excited but nervous… Would the play capture the magic of the show? Would the charm of the 50’s endure into 2016? I decided to do some research. First, I tested out the series on my own teenage daughter. After a few episodes it was obvious that she enjoyed Richie and his gang of friends, but she had two favorite characters - Fonzie and Mr. C.! Fonzie was (and still is) more than just cool! He has depth and an ability to communicate that goes far beyond the few words that he actually says. And Mr. Cunningham- talk about your ordinary hero! The father who could have solved all the problems, but still believed in his kids enough to let them work through them on their own- he’s an incredibly comforting figure to watch and cheer on. And all that charm from the TV series is fully captured in the musical! What I didn’t expect was the touching storyline of good ol Mrs. C., the infamous Pinky Tuscadero and Joanie. But I shouldn’t have been surprised. If you go back and watch the show, the early seasons in particular were always addressing deeper issues. Issues like, where do I fit in? What if I’m not exactly who people think I am or think I should be? But my favorite part of the show is still all the dancing and romancing. Will Richie, Ralph and Potsie ever get girlfriends? Will the Fonz ever settle down? And how about Joanie and Chachi? But truly, the COOLEST thing about this show is, you can watch it WITH YOUR WHOLE FAMILY! That just isn’t too common anymore. So grab your girl and/or the kids, and get ready to rock and roll back in time with Happy Days- the Musical! Wallpaper award for his effort with set builds. He was last seen as the Indian chief and a pirate in Peter Pan. Thanks to Ingrid, Ines and the entire production team. I am beyond excited to play Mr. C. Christina Afetian (MARTI/FONZETTE/ENSEMBLE) is so excited to be in Happy Days! This is Christina's 4th main stage production at CTG. She is a freshman and in the show choir at Hart High School. "I want to thank Mrs. Boydston, Mrs. Roberts, and Mr. Matson for this great opportunity!" #HoneyBunchesOfOats Kathryn Afetian (FLO) Kathryn is excited to be in her 1st show at CTG. Happy Days was one of her favorite shows growing up and she is thrilled to join this talented cast for this rockin' musical. Thanks to Ingrid for this opportunity and to her family for their support! L. Graaver and R. Federman. London and New York: Routledge, 1979. 2 Nov. 1958: 189-192. Print. In this highly critical review of “Krapp’s Last Tape,” Kenneth Tynan writes a short parody of Beckett’s play entitled “Slamm’s Last Knock.” Tynan’s critiques of the play are scattered throughout this piece and embedded in the narration and dialogue of the fake play, such as on the crumpled pieces of paper that read “Just another dose of nightmare gibberish from the so-called author of ‘Waiting for Godot’” (190). Near the end, the supporting character Seck launches into longer segments of monologue-like dialogue that directly express Tynan’s views, such as “Unique, oblique, bleak experience, in other words, and would have had same effect if half the words were other words. Drama critic and professor Robert Brustein highly praises “Krapp’s Last Tape” as being “very possibly [Beckett’s] best, dramatic poem about the old age of the world” (191). While still focused on such usual subjects of absurd theater as “the alienation, vacuity, and decay of life upon a planet devoid of God and hope,” the critic argues that this work is fresh in its “extraordinary economy of the writing, the absolute flawlessness of the form” (192).

    Face Attack in Italian Politics: Beppe Grillo's Insulting Epithets

    1 Face attack in Italian politics: Beppe Grillo’s insulting epithets for other politicians1 ABSTRACT The second largest party in the Italian Parliament, the “5-Star Movement” is led by comedian-turned-politician Beppe Grillo. Grillo is well-known for a distinctive and often inflammatory rhetoric, which includes the regular use of humorous but insulting epithets for other politicians, such as Psiconano (“Psychodwarf”) for Silvio Berlusconi. This paper discusses a selection of epithets used by Grillo on his blog between 2008 and 2015 to refer to Berlusconi and three successive centre-left leaders. We account for the functions of the epithets in terms of Spencer-Oatey’s (2002, 2008) multi- level model of “face” and of Culpeper’s (2011) “entertaining” and “coercive” functions of impoliteness. We suggest that our study has implications for existing models of face and impoliteness and for an understanding of the evolving role of verbal aggression in Italian politics. 1. Introduction In the 2013 Italian general election, just under a quarter of the votes went to Il Movimento Cinque Stelle (The 5-Star Movement, or M5S) – a new political entity which had been founded four years before by comedian- turned-politician Beppe Grillo. One of the distinctive characteristics of Grillo’s language as leader of M5S is the coinage of humorous but insulting epithets for other politicians. Bradshaw, Advisor The purpose of this dissertation is to analyze the dominant ideologies and hegemonic social constructs the television series Friends communicates in regard to friendship practices, gender roles, racial representations, and social class in order to suggest relationships between the series and social patterns in the broader culture. This dissertation describes the importance of studying television content and its relationship to media culture and social influence. The analysis included a quantitative content analysis of friendship maintenance, and a qualitative textual analysis of alternative families, gender, race, and class representations. The analysis found the characters displayed actions of selectivity, only accepting a small group of friends in their social circle based on friendship, gender, race, and social class distinctions as the six characters formed a culture that no one else was allowed to enter. iv ACKNOWLEDGMENTS This project stems from countless years of watching and appreciating television. When I was in college, a good friend told me about a series that featured six young people who discussed their lives over countless cups of coffee. Even though the series was in its seventh year at the time, I did not start to watch the show until that season.

    ‘THE MYSTERY CRUISE’ CAST BIOS GAIL O’GRADY (Alvirah Meehan) – Multiple Emmy® nominee Gail O'Grady has starred in every genre of entertainment, including feature films, television movies, miniseries and series television. Her most recent television credits include the CW series “Hellcats” as well as "Desperate Housewives" as a married woman having an affair with the teenaged son of Felicity Huffman's character. Other television credits include “Major Crimes,” “Castle,” “Hawaii Five-0,” “Necessary Roughness,” “Drop Dead Diva,” “Ghost Whisperer,” “Law & Order: SVU,” “CSI: Miami,” "The Mentalist," "Vegas," "CSI," "Two and a Half Men," "Monk," "Two of Hearts," "Nothing Lasts Forever" and "Billionaire Boys Club." This will be done by describing Beckett’s characters, as well as Beckett himself, ideas about identity and existence in three of his major plays: Waiting for Godot , Endgame , and Happy Days . Beckett’s father dead when he was in his mid - twenties. So, when he lost his father due to personal loss his mental and his physical health. He had night sweats, fear and anxiety. He couldn’t sleep on his bed alone. Dur ing the therapy sessions, Bion has suggested that he should write in order to release the pain and the inner struggle. Consequently, in a way, writing became a therapeutic tool for Samuel. So, Beckett’s writing helped him to treat himself. That is why there are signs of psychoanalysis on Beckett’s plays and Beckett’s characters. Samuel Beckett’s Waiting for Godot , in this article the aim is analyzing the two characters of Vladimir and Estragon in order to investigate their identity. These two characters put their whole existence into waiting. They are waiting for Godot all times. They believe that Godot will have all the answers of their questions. Beckett shows the unconscious mind of his characters, so we analyzed the play with psychoanalytic lens.

Each state‘s relative share of these programs is described. The geographic themes, patterns, and images from these programs are analyzed, with an emphasis on identity in five American regions: the Mid-Atlantic, New England, the Midwest, the South, and the West.
