The Messenger March 21, 2021 CHRISTGREENSBORO.ORG | 336.299.1571 WEEKLY WORSHIP • March 21, 2021 • 11:00 a.m. This service will premiere on Sunday morning at 11am via Facebook Live, YouTube, and Christ Church Radio, WDFC 101.7FM (christgreensboro.org/live). It is rebroadcast on the radio Mondays at 11am and Wednesdays at 3:30pm, and is available any time through our website. TRINITY CHIMES WELCOME Pastor Virginia Reynolds OPENING VOLUNTARY Our Father, We Have Wandered arr. Johann Walther CALL TO WORSHIP Our God is merciful and compassionate, slow to anger and filled with unfailing love. He is close to all who call on Him in truth, listening to their cries for help and offering them salvation. So let us bring our confession and praise to God, knowing that he will hear our prayers and forgive. Let us worship the Lord our God in thought, mind, and deed. OPENING HYMN Lord, We Confess our Numerous Faults ST. PETER Lord, we confess our numerous faults, how great our guilt has been, How vain and foolish all our thoughts, how deeply stained with sin. But oh, my soul, forever praise, forever love, his name Who turns your feet from dangerous ways of folly, sin, and shame. 'Tis not by works of righteousness which our own hands have done, But we are saved by God's free grace abounding through his Son. PRAYER OF CONFESSION, ASSURANCE, AND PARDON Reconciling God, we confess that we do not trust your abundance. We place our hope in ourselves and rely on our own efforts. We fail to believe that you provide enough for all. We abuse your good creation for our own benefit. We fear difference and do not welcome others as you have welcomed us. We sin in thought, word, and deed. By your grace, forgive us; through your love, renew us; and in your Spirit, lead us; so that we may live and serve you in newness of life. Amen. (Silent Confession) Beloved of God, by the radical abundance of grace and mercy, we have peace with God through Christ Jesus. In the name of Christ, you are forgiven. In the name of Christ, you are forgiven. Glory to God. My transgressions I confess, grief and guilt my soul oppress; I have sinned against thy grace and provoked thee to thy face; I confess thy judgment just, speechless, I thy mercy trust. Gracious God, my heart renew, make my spirit right and true; cast me not away from thee, let thy Spirit dwell in me; thy salvation's joy impart, steadfast make my willing heart. GROW From the Race, Reconciliation, and Social Justice Committee Each week during Lent and every day of Holy Week, a United Methodist Bishop will offer a short devotion. These times of reflection will challenge and inspire us to follow Jesus through the wilderness, alienation, betrayal and even death. Along the way, we will confront the sin of racism, renew our faith, and remember the promise of Easter—that redemption, reconciliation and liberation is possible. These videos can be found on https://www.umc.org/en/content/dismantling-racism-lent-devotions-by-our-bishops or through our website under the LOVE tab, then click on Resources on Racial Justice.
