LIVERPOOL THE JOHN HENRY NEWMAN PERSONAL HOPE APERS UNIVERSITY P Microfilm Catalogue | Liverpool Hope University Introduction In the summer of 2013 Liverpool Hope University purchased a complete set of the John Henry Newman microfilm personal papers. This set of microfilms (144 reels in total) consists of several thousand documents, letters and memoranda from the personal collection of the Blessed John Henry Newman (1801-1890). Liverpool Hope University is now the only known institution outside of North America to have a complete copy of the mentioned microfilm. Explanatory Note The films whose contents are listed in the following schedule reproduce a major portion of the Newman manuscripts preserved at the Oratory of St. Philip Neri, in Birmingham, England. The Oratory collection is divided into two parts: the Miscellaneous Papers, which are preserved in the room in which Newman lived; and the Letters, which are preserved in the Archivium. These two collections have been listed separately, and a means of referring to the original documents has been provided by giving the cupboard number (e.g. A 1.1) of the Papers and the title of the volume (e.g. "Personal Collection Acton") of the Letters. It should be said, by way of warning, that there are actually a good many letters in the collection known as Miscellaneous Papers. The user of these films can discover from the list of titles the manuscripts he wishes to consult. The number at the right indicates the reel in which it will be found, and the number at the left (batch number) will help him identify its position within the reel. It will be noted that, because of difficulties experienced in the filming, the reel numbers and the batch numbers do not always run concurrently, but this does not mean that any material has been omitted. An asterisk indicates that a few frames were found to be faulty in the batch and these have been re-photographed in reel no. 3. 19th November, 1920 Liverpool Hope University | John Henry Newman Personal Papers 1 Batch Reel Contents No. No. 1 A 1.1 Private diary July 1824 – June 1825 1 2 A 1.1 Private diary June 1825 – June 1826, March – June 1828 1 3 A 1.1 Private diary June 1828 – June 1829 1 4 A 1.1 Private diary June 1829 – June 1830 1 5 A 1.1 Private diary June 1830 – June 1831 1 6 A 1.1 Private diary June 1831 – June 1832 1 7 A 1.1 Private diary June 1832 – August 1833 1 8 A 1.1 Private diary June 1833 – June 1834 1 9 A 1.1 Private diary June 1834 – June 1835 1 10 A 1.1 Private diary June 1835 – June 1836 1 11 A 1.1 Private diary June 1836 – June 1837 1 12 A 1.1 Private diary June 1837 – June 1838 1 13 A 1.1 Private diary June 1838 – June 1839 1-2 14 A 1.1 Private diary June 1839 – June 1840 2 15 A 1.1 Private diary June 1840 – June 1841 2 16 A 1.1 Private diary June 1841 – June 1842 2 17 A 1.1 Private diary June 1842 – June 1843 2 18 A 1.1 Private diary June 1843 – June 1844 2 19 A 1.1 Private diary June 1844 – June 1845 2 20 A 1.1 Private diary June 1845 – June 1846 2 21 A 1.1 Private diary June 1846 – June 1847 2 22 A 1.1 Private diary July 1847 – May 1850 2 23 A 1.1 Private diary June 1850 – June 1851 2 24 A 1.1 Private diary Sept 1851 – Dec 1852 2 25 A 1.1 Private diary Jan 1852 – Jan 1853 3 26 A 1.3 Short diary Jan 1854 – Dec 1859 3 27 A 1.3 Short diary Jan 1861 – March 1871 3 28 A 1.4 Littlemore and Oratory letters, 1841 - 1852 3 29 A 1.2 Private Journal 3 30 A 3.1 Reminiscences of Ealing School by Wm.
