  • The Twenty Greatest Music Concerts I've Ever Seen
THE TWENTY GREATEST MUSIC CONCERTS I'VE EVER SEEN Whew, I'm done. Let me remind everyone how this worked. I would go through my Ipod in that weird Ipod alphabetical order and when I would come upon an artist that I have seen live, I would replay that concert in my head. (BTW, since this segment started I no longer even have an ipod. All my music is on my laptop and phone now.) The number you see at the end of the concert description is the number of times I have seen that artist live. If it was multiple times, I would do my best to describe the one concert that I considered to be their best. If no number appears, it means I only saw that artist once. Mind you, I have seen many artists live that I do not have a song by on my Ipod. That artist is not represented here. So although the final number of concerts I have seen came to 828 concerts (wow, 828!), the number is actually higher. And there are "bar" bands and artists (like LeCompt and Sam Butera, for example) where I have seen them perform hundreds of sets, but I counted those as "one," although I have seen Lecompt in "concert" also. Any show you see with the four stars (****) means they came damn close to being one of the Top Twenty, but they fell just short. So here's the Twenty. Enjoy and thanks so much for all of your input. And don't sue me if I have a date wrong here and there.

The first verse, quoted above (video at https://youtu.be/e5MAg_yWsq8), aptly captures the emotional excitement as well as the trepidation that I felt when in January 2016 we launched JCI Insight into uncharted waters. I, along with a small group of ASCI staff, conceived the idea of starting a new ASCI journal in 2014, two years into my tenure as JCI Editor. While the concept of a “daughter” journal was not new in scientific publishing, it was a radical idea for the ASCI, whose membership comprises individuals spanning a wide spectrum of academic life — from young, newly elected members on a steep trajectory of scientific achievement to Senior and Emeritus members, many of whom have been elected to the National Academies of Medicine and Sciences and some of whom are Nobel laureates. • This Is a Great Band, and I Had a Great Time” Bob Weir, Grateful Dead Founding Member (Guitar/Vocalist)
“This is a great band, and I had a great time” Bob Weir, Grateful Dead founding member (guitar/vocalist) “Inspired and accomplished musical discourse at such a deep and serious level: I had no problem at all believing that this was what the Grateful Dead sounded like 40 years ago.” David Gans, Grateful Dead Hour “I've always been impressed by DSO, but the other night I thought they'd taken it to a new level. It was some of the best Grateful Dead music I've heard in the past 20 years, and that covers some ground. Somehow, Jeff Mattson manages to play Jerry's parts perfectly in the spirit, but without any sense of being imitative. And boy, does the band pick up on this energy. Big fun!” Dennis McNally, Grateful Dead publicist & biographer 1980 – 1995; Author “A Long Strange Trip: The History of the Grateful Dead” “As one who is classically trained, I actually always thought that DSO was very cool, treating Grateful Dead music as repertoire- much as I've tried to do in my various bands.” Phil Lesh, Grateful Dead founding member (bass/vocals) “Playing with Dark Star Orchestra is something that feels just exactly like it felt when I was playing with the Grateful Dead.” Donna Jean Godchaux, Grateful Dead vocalist, frequent DSO guest “There are moments where I can close my eyes and go back 30 years and have it be every bit as rewarding and satisfying. Dark Star is an amazingly legitimate representation of the Dead.” Dan Healy, Grateful Dead sound engineer 1966 -1994 “Thank you for a real good time.” Jon Fishman, Phish drummer after sitting in with DSO “The Dark Star Orchestra re-creates Grateful Dead shows with a flashback-inducing meticulousness.” The New Yorker “...recreates the Dead concert experience with uncanny verisimilitude.

  • “Come Sail Away,” “Mr. Roboto,” “Babe,” “Too Much Time on My Hands” and More
1 THE BEST OF STYX FEATURES MAJOR HITS “COME SAIL AWAY,” “MR. ROBOTO,” “BABE,” “TOO MUCH TIME ON MY HANDS” AND MORE With Isaac Hayes singing “Come Sail Away” on TV’s “South Park,” “Mr. Roboto” revived for a car commercial, new albums and constant touring, Styx, one of the most popular bands of the late ‘70s and early ‘80s, is hardly sailing away. The Best Of Styx edition of 20th Century Masters/The Millennium Collection (A&M/UME), released June 11, 2002, offers 11 of the band’s biggest hits and best-loved tracks spanning its A&M tenure from 1975 to 1990. Produced in association with Styx, each selection has been digitally remastered. Dennis DeYoung (keyboards) and brothers Chuck and John Panozzo (drums and bass, respectively) had played together on Chicago’s South Side since grade school. Adding guitarists John Curulewski and James “JY” Young, Styx debuted in 1972 but its first four albums yielded only the Top 10 “Lady” (though Styx II would eventually go gold). When the band signed to A&M, Tommy Shaw replaced Curulewski after Equinox was recorded and “Lorelei” from the gold Equinox (1975) and “Mademoiselle” from the gold Crystal Ball (1976) went Top 40. 1977’s The Grand Illusion turned Styx into an arena rock superstar. The triple platinum album spun off the Top 10 “Come Sail Away” and Top 40 “Fooling Yourself (The Angry Young Man).” Styx followed with the triple platinum Pieces Of Eight (1978) and its Top 40 “Blue Collar Man (Long Nights).” 1979’s Cornerstone went double platinum featuring the gold #1 “Babe,” and “Boat On The River.” Styx’s concept album masterpiece, the triple platinum Paradise Theatre (1981), hit with the Top 10s “Too Much Time On My Hands” and “The Best Of Times.” After 1983’s rock opera 2 Kilroy Was Here, despite going platinum and boasting the #3 gold “Mr.

As a performer and musician, his resume is so complete that there is a tendency to sit back and marvel at it: virtuoso player, sonic innovator, hit songwriter, wild stage performer, outrageous dresser, sex symbol, and even sensitive guy. But there is also a tendency, possibly because of his overwhelming image, to fail to dig deeper into the music, as Rob Van der Bliek has pointed out.1 In this study, we will look at Hendrix’s music, his performance practice, and its relationship to the mythology that has grown up around him.

Every fan of prog and arena rock should pick up this Styx book, which is a great collection of 23 of the bands best rockers and ballads. Includes: Babe * The Best of Times * Blue Collar Man (Long Nights) * Come Sail Away * Crystal Ball * Dont Let It End * Fooling Yourself (The Angry Young Man) * The Grand Illusion * Lady * Light Up * Lorelei * Love at First Sight * Love Is the Ritual * Mademoiselle * Miss America * Mr. Roboto * Queen of Spades * Renegade * Show Me the Way * Sing for the Day * Suite Madame Blue * Superstars * Too Much Time on My Hands. I bought this because my old Styx song books had been stolen many years back. Those old editions are long out of print and very difficult to obtain now.I was excited when I saw this book on here because it had all the greatest hits back in piano form. I first looked at Dont Let It End. They dumbed it down by transposing it from D flat to C, to make it more playable. Then I took a look at Babe. They left it in the same key, but they changed the notes to play closer to an easy piano version of the song.
