Gift of daughters of EA's first wife, Louise Crombie: Susan C. Cary and Ann C. Evans.

Louise Crombie is described in EA's HERE LIES ERIC AMBLER, An Autobiography.' Farrar Straus, 1985. p. 150 on Letters from EA to his wife Louise, 1940, 1941. Louise Crombie was some years older than EA. Born in Portland, Oregon, she was a graduate of Mills College in California. She worked as a fashion artist in France where EA met her. She had three children, Sue, Ann and Michael, by a previous marriage. She married EA in 1939; they were divprced in May 1958. EA was an officer in British Army Artillery from 1940-1946.
