RAIDER REVIEW: The Raiders (13-16-5-2) welcome the Regina Pats (17-18-3-0) THROUGH 36 GAMES to the Art Hauser Centre tonight in the last game of 2017. In their last outing, 2017-18 13-16-5-2, 33 PTS the Raiders were downed 6-4 by the Saskatoon Blades in Prince Albert. Parker 2016-17 8-26-1-1, 18 PTS Kelly, Eric Pearce, and Carson Miller all scored first-period goals to put the LEADERS GOALS J. Stallard (25) Raiders up 3-1, but the Blades scored four unanswered goals to take the lead. ASSISTS C. Fonstad (31) Brett Leason brought the Raiders back within one late in the game, but the POINTS J. Stallard (46) Blades iced it with an empty netter. Ian Scott turned aside 33 shots in the loss.

VS. REGINA: Despite being halfway through the season, this is just the second meeting of the year between the Raiders and the Pats. The Raiders and Pats will square off three times in the next eight days, including two trips to Regina. Josh Mahura scored 1:55 into overtime to lift Regina to a 2-1 win in the only meeting this season so far.

BACK IN THE GOAL COLUMN: Forward Carson Miller scored his first goal of the season in Thursday night’s contest against the Saskatoon Blades, snapping a 40-game goalless drought in the process. Miller, who seven goals and 12 assists in an injury-shortened season last year, last scored prior to Thursday on January 14, 2017 against Regina.

NACHBAUR SUSPENDED: Winger Justin Nachaur was suspended for two games after receiving a cross-checking major and a game misconduct in Thursday’s game against the Blades. Nachbaur is eligible to return to the Raiders lineup on Friday, January 5 against the Kootenay ICE. This is the second time Nachbaur has been suspended this season. He missed the first four games of the season.

The Pats are coming off a 5-4 win over Brandon on Thursday which snapped a five game losing streak. The Raiders hosted Saskatoon on Thursday and fell 6-4. The Lead Up: Pats end slide Thursday against Brandon The Regina Pats snapped their five game losing streak with a 5-4 win over the Brandon Wheat Kings on Thursday night at the Brandt Centre. The Wheat Kings scored the game’s first two goals to lead 2-0 early in the second period. However the Pats responded with three goals in a 2:23 span to take the lead. First, Logan Nijhoff scored his second in as many games, Cale Fleury got his eighth on the powerplay and then Bryan Lockner tipped home his fifth and it was 3-2 Regina. Brandon tied it up midway through the second but Nick Henry restored the lead with his fifth and it was 4-3 after 40 minutes. In the third, Brandon again drew even at the nine minute mark but Regina responded thanks to Matt Bradley who put in a rebound for his 23rd with just over six minutes left and the Pats held on from there for the 5-4 win.

Head to Head Tonight is the second of eight meetings between the Pats and Raiders with Regina taking the first matchup, 2-1 in overtime in October. Matt Bradley had two assists in the win for Regina, Josh Mahura and Emil Oksanen scored the goals while Tyler Brown made 25 saves. Spencer Moe had the lone tally for Prince Albert and goaltender Curtis Meger made 31 saves. The Pats enter Saturday four points up on the Raiders for the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.

100 Points Pats defenceman Cale Fleury reached the 100 point plateau for his WHL career on Thursday night. The prospect scored his eighth goal of the season in the second period to reach the milestone. Fleury has played in 235 WHL games between the Kootenay ICE and the Pats, scoring 28 goals and adding 72 assists.

Nijhoff with big Impact Pats 16-year-old forward Logan Nijhoff has had two big games since the club returned from the Christmas break. The eighth round pick in 2016 scored his first WHL goal on Wednesday in Brandon and followed that up with a goal and an assist against the Wheat Kings in the Pats 5-4 win on Thursday night. Pats acquire Jared Legien in trade with Victoria On December 27, the Regina Pats Hockey Club announced they acquired 19-year-old forward Jared Legien from the Victoria Royals. In exchange the Pats sent 19-year-old Braydon Buziak and a conditional 7th round pick in 2018 to the Royals. Legien (6’1, 194), originally a first round pick of the Kootenay ICE in 2013, ninth overall, is enjoying a career year in the WHL. The product of Pilot Butte, Saskatchewan has scored 13 goals and has 20 assists for 33 points in 33 games in Victoria. Legien started his career in Kootenay in 2014 before being picked up by the Royals ahead of the 2017-18 season. In 120 games he has 17 goals and 42 points.

Pats Acquire Mahovlich from Kamloops The Regina Pats Hockey Club acquired 18-year-old forward Scott Mahovlich from the Kamloops Blazers in exchange for a seventh round pick in 2018 on November 28. Mahovlich (6’2, 187) is playing in his second full season in the WHL, last year with the Blazers he scored one goal and had four assists in 48 games. The Abbotsford, B.C. product played his minor hockey at the Yale Hockey Academy in Abbotsford and won a CSSHL Championship in 2014-15.

Zamula and Oksanen get Central Scouting Recognition Pats defenceman Egor Zamula and forward Emil Oksanen were among the 38 WHL players listed on the NHL Central Scouting Service Players to Watch List for the 2018 NHL Entry Draft. Zamula, from Chelyabinsk Russia, came in as a ‘B’ skater as a potential second or third round pick. The 17-year-old was ranked a ‘C’ skater in the October rankings. Oksanen came in as a ‘C’ skater as a potential fourth to sixth round selection.

Pats Acquire Cale Fleury from Kootenay The Pats acquired Montreal Canadiens prospect defenceman Cale Fleury from the Kootenay ICE on Monday November 13. In exchange, the Pats sent 18-year-old defenceman Jonathan Smart, 16-year-old forward Cole Muir, a 2nd round pick in 2018, a 6th round pick in 2018 and a conditional pick in 2019 or 2020 to the ICE. The 2018 2nd round pick was acquired from the Medicine Hat Tigers in the Jordan Hollett trade and the 6th round pick was originally from Kootenay for goaltender Kurtis Chapman. Fleury was drafted 87th overall in the third round of the 2017 NHL Entry Draft by the Montreal Canadiene.

Steel and Mahura Named to Team WHL Pats Sam Steel and defenceman Josh Mahura will both suit up for Team WHL at the upcoming CIBC Canada Russia Series. Steel will participate in his second Canada Russia series, he has 12 points in eight games to start the season while Mahura has put up 11 points in eight games. Both players were returned to the Pats by the on September 29. Pats Head Coach and GM John Paddock will serve as an assistant coach for Team WHL.

Pats Acquire Sidaway and a pick from Kootenay The Regina Pats Hockey Club acquired 18-year-old forward Tanner Sidaway, as well as a seventh round pick in 2018 from the Kootenay ICE in exchange for 19-year-old forward Jeff de Wit on October 10, 2017. Sidaway (6’0, 181) is playing in his second full season in the WHL, last year with the ICE he scored two goals and had eight points in 65 games. Pats Acquire Bradley from Medicine Hat The Pats acquired 20-year-old forward Matt Bradley from the Medicine Hat Tigers along with a second round pick in 2018 and a fifth round pick in 2019 on May 23, 2017. In exchange the Pats sent 18-year-old goaltender Jordan Hollett to the Tigers.

Pats Trade Draft Picks for Morrisseau On June 13, 3017 Regina acquired 17-year-old forward Koby Morrisseau from the Spokane Chiefs along with a conditional 5th round draft pick in 2020. In exchange, the Pats sent a 4th round pick in either 2019 or 2020 and a conditional 3rd in 2020 to the Chiefs.

In the second round, 62nd overall, the Vegas Golden Knights took center Jake Leschyshyn. Then in the fourth round, 94th overall, forward Nick Henry was selected by the .

Schioler and Bradley Attend NHL Camps Pats defencemen Liam Schioler as well as forward Matt Bradley all attended NHL rookie camps in the fall of 2017. Schioler was a free agent invite by the Edmonton Oilers and Bradley by the Minnesota Wild.

Pats Trade for Goaltender The Pats acquired 17-year-old goaltender Jacob Wassermann from the Vancouver Giants on September 13, 2017. In exchange, the Pats traded a sixth round pick in the 2018 WHL Bantam Draft to the Giants. The day previous, Regina traded goaltender Kurtis Chapman to the Kootenay ICE for a conditional 6th round pick in 2018.
