Assistant coasch Arthur McIlravy helps steady one gymnast so another gymnast can take over with the helping.

Del Bartels Helpers, Jossie Kukal, center, Kadoka, and Jaisa Snyder, right, a Philip gymnast, assisting springboard jumper Jyrzee Coller, Kadoka.

The Wall/Kadoka/Philip high school gymnastics team hosted three summer gym camps this year to gain interest in the sport and to fundraise. Fundraising is to purchase a new spring board, a new sting mat, and also to assist the Wall School District with building rent. Gymnastics equipment is very large and heavy, and takes up space. “It is our hope to find building space that can accommodate our equipment throughout the entire gymnastics season, Nov. 2 through Feb. 12,” said head coach Heidi Coller. The camp held in Wall was in July and had 19 girls and boys attend, the Philip camp had 44 girls and boys attend the camp, and the Kadoka camp had 35 girls and boys. “The three camps were a great success. I believe the camps have resulted in interest in the sport of gymnastics. Gymnastics is a sport that improves an athlete in all other sports. Bal - ance, strength, coordination, self-confidence and fun are just a few things you get out of gymnastics. Whether you are a basketball player, football player, wrestler or volleyball player, gymnastics is beneficial as you benefit from using every muscle in your body,” said Coller. “I am very excited for the upcoming season that starts Nov. 2, and we look forward to multiplying our team.
