PRESENTATION OF FIRST CLASS GRADUANDS The First Class graduands will be presented by the Academic Registrar
Academic Registrar requests Dean of Faculties to present the graduands. The faculty dean will acknowledge the Chancellor and present the graduands to the Chancellor by reading the names of all graduands. Graduands will stand up when their names are read and keep standing.
Conferment of degrees and award of diplomas and certificates Male graduands will take off their caps while female graduands will keep theirs on. All graduands will remain standing as the chancellor awards them their certificates, Diplomas and degrees, and thereafter they resume their seat.

1. Stuart University and the government of Israel through the government of Uganda. Our students who study in Israel have greatly added value to our agricultural landscape. We hope our guest of honour you can link us to some Universities in Israel for intensified collaborations.
Our dear Graduands; we are here today to acknowledge the great work you have done, to honor you with warm congratulations for this milestone achieved in your lives. Now at the end of your careers as students, you have an opportunity to pursue your passion Congratulations! I am glad, your desire has been accomplished today after many years of hard work. As you graduate now, in 2021, you have the opportunity to do your part, to help create a better future for your families, your communities and your country. Your achievement was highly backed by the support and encouragement of your Parents, Guardians, Lecturers, and Friends who are proudly celebrating with you today even though the graduation is virtual we thank God you have completed it successfully.

2. Mandate of BSU Our Guest of Honour, Bishop Stuart University (BSU) is a private, not-for-profit Chartered educational institution established by Ankole Diocese of the Province of the Anglican Church of Uganda in 2002 to provide Christian based higher Education, training, and research for the expansion of God’s Kingdom, Christian knowledge and betterment of society. The University Vision is; A University for creating a society with academic excellence, entrepreneurship, and Christian Values, the University Mission is; Producing

3. Students’ population The Student population has also grown gradually from 250 in 2002 when the University started, we now have 5005. Today, we take pleasure to witness the graduation of these ladies and gentlemen who have completed their degrees, Diplomas, and Certificates. Our guest of Honor, among the graduands today, we are presenting a total of 17 students who will be awarded first-class Degrees.
4. Staffing and service delivery Currently, the University employs 331 staff both Administrative and academic. I appreciate the entire staff for the work well done in the lives of these graduands. To our academic staff, thank you for a wonderful job well done through the hardships of COVID-19 and for patiently guiding our students and assisting them through their educational journey. Through your continued support, BSU has grown into both an academic and entrepreneurial place of excellence. As we shall continue to nurture personal values and ethics that will become the standards of our nation, considering our motto; Our God Reigns. Please graduands go and be good representatives in the fear of God.

Bishop Stuart University (BSU) is a private, not-for-profit education institution established by Ankole Diocese of the Province of the Anglican Church of Uganda to provide Christian based higher education, training and research for the expansion of God’s Kingdom and for betterment of society. The University has since its inception graduated 16,977. This number is inclusive of todays’ graduands, and majority of whom are employed both in the private and public sector. To date, the University has grown into five faculties, namely; Faculty of Business, Economics and Governance; Faculty of Agriculture, Environmental Sciences and Technology; Faculty of Education, Arts and Media Studies; Faculty of Law; and Faculty of Nursing and Health Sciences.
BSU was graded as one of the best and fastest growing Universities in Uganda. It was ranked 10th by Webometrics between June, 2020 - January, 2021 (Web Ranking of Universities). We have also grown in terms of student enrolment from 200 students in 2002 to over 5,000 students in 2021.
Our Guest of Honour and invited guests, what we are witnessing today are the fruits of numerous contributions and sacrifices over the last 18 years by Ankole Diocese, the Government of Uganda, Development partners, Organisations, Staff students, various individuals and well-wishers.
We are grateful, especially to parents, guardians and partners, that you have chosen to share your time with us this day as we celebrate our 1st ever virtual Graduation with 1898 students graduating in different disciplines.
Our Guest of Honour, we are delighted to warmly welcome you on your first visit to BSU. We extend our appreciation to the Israel, the government for the collaborations we have in internship training in Agrostudies and skills enhancement to our learners and Ugandans generally for over 5years.

It is therefore impossible to mention a rose without a thorn, thus challenges of the outbreak of COVID-19 and subsequent lockdown in the country and world over hit us badly. However, diamonds are best made under pressure, thus BSU has emerged stronger under “The New Normal, New Foundation and New Me”.
Indeed, this 16th Graduation is demonstration that the capacity of BSU is unquestionable in terms of services delivery to our learners, parents, guardians and Society. The resilience of BSU Board of Trustees, Governing Council and unwavering Management, Staff and Students can now proudly be celebrated. Bravo! Bravo! Bravo!
Covid-19 has also brought up new opportunities that we can copy from and manage public affairs as we move forward. We cannot go back to where we were. BSU Governing Council approved online policy and so our teaching materials are now in VLE. We are ready to teach students all over the world now as BSU.
Our Guest of Honour, Chancellor, Ladies and gentlemen, I have the honour to present today 1898 graduands. Out of these, 34 are Masters, 45 Postgraduate Diplomas, 1245 Bachelors, 515 Ordinary Diplomas and 58 Certificates. This is a crowning moment for you graduands/parents/guardians/sponsors for all the sacrifices you have made in pursuit of knowledge. We are very proud of you and congratulations on your achievements. We urge you to maintain the intellectual curiosity and extend your horizons and take over territories (Joshua 1: 1-9). SOME KEY REGISTERED ACHIEVEMENTS 1. Adoption of Open Distance and e-Learning (ODeL); BSU has wholesomely embraced the guidelines from NCHE and developed an e-learning system that was approved by the Governing Council and entire BSU. BSU established an On-line teaching and learning system; the Virtual Learning Environment (VLE), social media platforms, emails for delivery of teaching and learning materials to students in this COVID-19 pandemic. To this were are studying under ODeL with Fresher’s (Novices) and Continuing Students 1st Semester of Academic Year 2020/2021. All our 89 programs are

2. BSU e-learning programmes with Trinity Western University (TWU) Canada: The University signed a memorandum of Understanding with Trinity Western University for online teaching and learning systems powered by Moodle. BSU has established a Facilitated Academic Resource (FAR) learning Centre to house and support the learning community of TWU at BSU. We appreciate TWU for the generous donation of 15,000 USD that helped us to quickly adopt to ODeL. Our Programs of study have been submitted to NCHE for accreditation, and once approved you will study in Canada while here at BSU.
3. Purchase of the ZeeVasity under ZeeNode Ltd. This is an integrated AR and Finances Records system. Now all our Finances and Academic records are integrated. We are therefore able to process academic documents on time and students are able to view their marks and financial statements on their own -Self service. Lectures are inputting their marks too in the system.
4. Webinars Vs. BSU Strategic Plan: We held various webinars with experts on how Universities should strategize themselves in the 4th Industrial Revolution (4IR), and Opportunities of online learning under lockdown due to Covid-19 pandemic. Immense contributions in the development of our strategic plan were given and we have a Strategic Plan for 2021-2025. We applaud our renowned expert panellists and discussants namely; Prof. Aaron Mushengyezi (VC UCU); Dr. Patrick Bitature (Founder & CEO Protea Hotels); Prof. Balunywa Wasswa (Principal MUBS); Prof. Philip Laird (Provost, Trinity Western University Canada); Dr. Kedrace Turyagyenda (Director ESA, MOES); Prof. Betty Ezati (Mak); Prof. Jude Lubega (DVC Nkumba University); Prof. Birevu Muyinda (Mak); Prof. William Bazeyo (Mak) and our Chancellor & Bishop of Ankole Diocese, Rt. 5. Agro-studies Programme to Israel: BSU has an MOU with Israel for Agro-Studies programme. A total number of 210 students have benefitted from the programme since 2014. BSU annually sends Agriculture students to Israel for apprenticeship through the

Agro Studies programme for skills development. The BSU contingent has been highly commended for their diligence and our students have demonstrated a mindset change in transforming Agriculture in Uganda.
6. Government Higher Education Students Financing (HESFB) Government Loan Scheme: BSU signed a memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Higher Education Students Financing Board (Government Loan Scheme). A total of 513 students from our University have benefited from this scheme since 2015 and their tuition fees is being paid in time. In this academic year, 2020/2021, we are pleased to note that we received 85 HESFB sponsored students. The pioneers of this scheme graduated during the 14th graduation on 12 October 2018.
7. Signing MOUs with Farmers’ Cooperatives; we have signed MOUs with Farmers’ cooperatives and the purpose is to collaborate with them in areas of offering program of study, work based learning to provide students with real-life practical experiences where they can apply academic, technical skills to develop their employability capabilities and also for apprenticeship.
8. Signing MOUs with other Universities and Higher Institutions of Learning; The University signed MOUs with various Universities. This will go a long way in strengthening partnerships that will certainly yield great results where both students and staff will benefit to improve teaching and learning through exchange visits, benchmarking, research and capacity building. The most recent MOU was signed with Kyambogo University where the partnership is aimed at promoting the newly introduced technical courses and engineering programmes.
9. Alumni Auditorium; BSU alumni is in the process of making plans for the construction of the auditorium. We wish to commend them for the good work and pledge full support in the projects being undertaken in pursuit of the objectives of the association.
10. Donation of Paint by Sadolin; we received a donation of fifty five (55) buckets and 16 jerry cans of paint towards our construction projects from Sadolin paints through Kash

11. BSU Patriotism Club; This is an existing and functional club working with government of Uganda. In 2019, there was a patriotism training and a number of students have since been trained in patriotism courses at our campus, Kabalye and Kyankwanzi. We held a training under the theme “Mindset change among University students” on 6TH March, 2021 where the Guest of Honour was Brig Gen. Patrick Mwesigye and Brig Gen. Kulaigye the Commissioner, National Secretariat of Patriotism Corps; Office of the President. We appreciate government for the continuous support for such programmes aimed at promoting the love for our country and transformation of youth and society.
12. Recognition and Registration of Public Health Programme; The Allied Health Professionals Council conducted an inspection of our facilities for offering a Bachelor of Science in Public Health. The programme was gazetted and the University recognized in training of professionals of Public Health and our students will be able to register as health practitioners. We are grateful to God for attaining this status and we appreciate Allied Health Professionals Council for the approval.
13. Zero Rating Access to BSU Websites; MTN Uganda has zero-rated our online learning platforms. This means that our students and staff can now access and utilize these platforms at no or reduced cost. This is a big step towards actualising online studying in this “new normal”. We wish to appreciate RENU; our service providers for this achievement.
14. NITA-Uganda Donation of Zoom Accounts; National Information Technology Authority (NITA-U) gave us a free zoom licence with fifty-five (55) accounts for individual lecturers as a supplement to online platforms. This has significantly boosted our e-learning and teaching for both our lecturers and students as key beneficiaries. We are therefore so grateful to NITA-U for this immense support especially in this post Covid -19 era.
15. Donation by Bank of Uganda; Bank of Uganda gave us a grant worth 10 million shilling to establish an Economic Chair to enhance and harness Agribusiness, Agriculture and herbal medicines. We are very grateful to the Governor; Bank of Uganda.

16. Research Grant from Makerere University Research and Innovation Fund, (Mak-RIF). BSU is a partner on two projects funded by Mak-RIF; Enhancing virtual adaptability to boost post covid-19 education system in Uganda; and Essential oil crops’ commercialization for public health products development and rational promotion We appreciate Prof. William Bazeyo and Vice Chancellor Prof. Barnabas Nawangwe for their immeasurable support to BSU through these projects and providing us with opportunities for research grants proposals. Appreciations go to the PIs - Dr. Peace Musiimenta and Dr. Savina Asiimwe. Our partnership with Makerere University is a reality and productive as we Build for the Future and Our God Reigns.
17. UBTEB Technical Courses. These have been embraced by BSU at Diploma Level. Role and value of skills enhancement is crucial.
18. Agribusiness Incubation Hub at BSU. The project to establish an Agribusiness Incubation Hub (AIH) started in March, 2018 with a two-year funding arrangement from MasterCard Foundation through the Regional Universities Forum (RUFORUM) won by Rabecca Kalibwani (Principal Investigator). The project has been successfully implemented at Bishop Stuart University (BSU), in partnership with Excell Hort Consult (EHC) Ltd, an agribusiness incubator. The AIH aimed at enhancing the development of entrepreneurial skills for innovative employment opportunities of young University graduates. This will provide the required skills to our young graduates and develop their business ideas into strong enterprises for their future employment and the community development through provision of jobs.
19. MOU signed with The Uganda Forum for Agricultural Advisory Services {UFAAS}, Epeditia Africa and Bixter. This is a company in Denmark that provides advanced traineeship programs in various agricultural areas in different European countries to foreign students coming from various countries. We have also entered a partnership with European Commission aimed at exchange of students and/or staff under higher education and staff mobility programme with funding from Erasmus Charter for Higher Education. Implementation of the program will focus on young female and male University and College students with a goal of capacity building and transfer of knowledge and skills to

20. AVSI under Skilling Youth Uganda (SKY); We have a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) under implementation with AVSI under SKY to skill the Youth in Agro-related innovation projects. They installed a greenhouse, constructed farm structures, offered trainings and bought for us diary animals. A shed has been donated in providing avenues for students’ hands-on agriculture practical skills and also continuously provided funding opportunities for prospective youth empowerment projects.
21. As we celebrate this most auspicious 16th Graduation ceremony of BSU in this new normal, I feel greatly honored and privileged to congratulate you upon successful completion of your studies. You have toiled through thick and thin and at long last you are today reaping the long-cherished harvest.
The awards you have received today are just the springboard to greater heights in your career and profession.
The nation and the world need your skills. You have only acquired the basic and fundamental skills but you need to nature your mind set and attitude in order to fit into the global job demand and expectation. This means that you have to think outside of the box with a clear multiple abilities and positive mind to plan a head, positively design and create something new which has value.
Adhere to your ethics and professionalism at your work place. Uganda needs ethical and professional men and women in her service both in public and private sectors. I urge you to love your mother Nation (Uganda). Remember you have been a student and some body has been there for you with support. It may no longer be so.
Do not use your heads for decorations. Subject yourself to sound thinking until you come up with something. Do not sit at home if there no jobs yet but swing in and make your own job.
