Date and venue of the meetings 1. The Expert Forum for Producers and Users of Climate Change-related Statistics will be held in at FAO Headquarters, Rome, from 3 p.m.-5 October 2017 (Iraq room and on 5 October King Faisal room). Other events will include the 14th session of the Joint Task Force on Environmental Statistics and Indicators (for countries of Eastern Europe, the Caucasus and Central Asia) (2-3 a.m. October; Iraq room); and the Meeting of the Task Force on Measuring Extreme Events and Disasters (6 October; Austria Room, C-250Bis). Visas 6. Participants are requested to have a valid passport and, if required, a visa. Applications for visas should be made as soon as possible to the Embassy of Italy in the country in which the participants reside, with a reference to the UNECE FAO Expert Forum and/or other events. Registration 7. Participants are required to register online for the meetings of the Joint Task Force on Environmental Statistics and Indicators and for the Expert Forum for Producers and Users of Climate Change-related Statistics on the respective meetings websites (see above). Registration deadlines are 1 September 2017: • Joint Task Force: http://www.unece.org/index.php?id=43952# • Expert Forum: http://www.unece.org/index.php?id=43954# 8. Members of the Task Force on measuring extreme events and disasters participating in the meeting on 6 October have to register via email to [email protected]. 9. In order to enter the FAO, participants need to show a picture ID from a government agency to obtain a Visitor’s entry Badge. To obtain the badge, you will have to enter the FAO at the Viale Aventino entrance, located directly in front of the Circo Massimo Exit of the city subway, and enter through the Security Office. It is advisable to arrive about one hour before the meeting start time, in order to collect your badge and make your way to the meeting room in a timely manner. 10. Please bring your I.D. (e.g. passport) to present at the Security Office. Once you have your badge, it will be possible to exit and re-enter the FAO through the gate at Viale Aventino. 11. For identification and security reasons, participants are requested to wear their security badges at all times while inside the FAO. VI. Travel Directions 12. The two main airports in Rome are the Fiumicino airport (also called Leonardo da Vinci airport, 36 km west of Rome) and the Ciampino airport (16 km southeast of Rome, used primarily for charter flights and low- cost carriers). Both are served by taxi (fixed fares of 48 euro from Fiumicino to FAO or anywhere in the center of Rome—within the Aurelian Walls; 30 euro from Ciampino to FAO or anywhere in the centre of Rome), as well as by buses that take you directly to Roma Termini, Rome’s Central Station. 13. Matro/bus/metro tickets can be purchased at newsstands at the Airport and Termini Station and from the automatic machines at the subway station. 14. To reach FAO from the airport by train follow these instructions: • from Fiumicino Airport (i) Direct train LEONARDO EXPRESS. This train takes you from Fiumicino airport to RomaTermini station in about 20 minutes, without intermediate stops. Tickets cost 14 euro. From Roma Termini, take Metro Line B (direction Laurentina), and exit at Circo Massimo to go to FAO. The entrance to FAO is in front of you, as you go up the steps from the subway. (ii) Local train to ORTE/FARA SABINA. This train takes you from Fiumicino airport to the Ostiense train station in 30 minutes, with intermediate stops. Tickets cost 8 euro. From Ostiense train station, take Metro Line B (direction Rebibbia), and exit at Circo Massimo. The entrance to FAO is on the right as you come up the steps from the subway station. You can also walk directly from Ostiense train station to FAO, along Viale Aventino, in about 25 minutes, or take a local taxi (about 10 euro to FAO) • from Ciampino Airport 15. FAO can be reached from Ciampino Airport through: (i) Bus. A number of bus companies take you directly to Roma Termini Central Station for fares that range 4-6 euro. To get from Termini to FAO using the Metro see directions above. (ii) Taxi. A taxi from Ciampino airport to FAO or central Rome (anywhere within the Aurelian walls, the central tourist area) costs a fixed fare of 30 euro. This also applies in the opposite direction. VII. Transport in Rome 16. Metro/bus/metro tickets can be purchased at any newsstand or "Tabaccheria" (tobacconist’s shop) at the airport, at Termini and from the automatic machines at the subway stations. Tickets cost 1.50 euro (valid 3 on subway and buses and for a total duration of 100 minutes). For maps of local train and subway lines see Metro di Roma. Taxis do not stop for customers on the street, but must be boarded at Taxi stands located throughout the city and at train and airport stations. Alternatively you can call a taxi by phone, dialing the local number: 06 3570 for pick up at any location at any time. Taxis cannot enter the UN compound - passengers will have to get off at the FAO gates. VIII. Currency 18. The currency in Italy is the euro (€). Current conversion rates are about € 1 = 1.10 USD. IX. Electricity 19. Italy follows the main European system, i.e., 220 V and European plugs (see e.g., http://www.lonelyplanet.com/italy/electricity ) X.     How to get Rome from the “Leonardo Da Vinci” Fiumicino Airport The main airport Leonardo da Vinci (Fiumicino) is located about 26 km from the city centre. The centre of city is easily reached: FROM AND TO FIUMICINO AIRPORT BY TRAIN At the airport’s railway station the Shuttle-Train Leonardo Express direct service (without calling at other stations) takes just 31 minutes to get to Termini Station (intersecting with the Metro Lines A & B) and leaves every half hour from 6.36 a.m. to 11.36 p.m. FROM AND TO FIUMICINO BY TAXI Taxis licensed by Rome City Council are white and have a sign bearing the word “TAXI” on their roofs and by the identifying licence number on the doors, on the back and inside the car. The symbol of the Rome City Council is clearly visible on the front doors and the license inside the back left. Other vehicles waiting on exiting the airport may well be driven by unauthorized persons and the fare could therefore be a great deal higher. Taxis for Rome are found at the exits of both the domestic and international arrival terminals. Fares: • to and from Fiumicino Airport – Ostiense Railway Station €45 • to and from Fiumicino Airport – The Aurelian Wall €48 • to and from Fiumicino Airport – Tiburtina Railway Station €55 A maximum fare of €70 has moreover been set for journeys starting from inside the Rome Ring Road (Grande Raccordo Anulare) and heading to Fiumicino airport in the event that the taxi metre should display a higher sum. Non tutti però ebbero l’opportunità di impegnarsi nella ricostruzioni dei propri luoghi di nascita, delle proprie case; milioni di persone in tutta Europa furono costrette ad adattarsi ai nuovi confini dando inizio ai più grandi spostamenti di popolazioni e di scambi interetnici tra stati che il Vecchio contiene ricordi. Gli italiani abitanti sul confine orientale furono protagonisti di un eccezionale fenomeno migratorio non ufficializzato da un preciso decreto di espulsione ma spinti dalle violenze ancora in corso nelle loro terre di origine: Istria, Fiume, Dalmazia, Venezia Giulia. Una buona parte della prima ondata di esuli si diresse verso le grandi città del Nord Italia (Trieste, Genova, Venezia, Torino, Milano, Varese, Brescia) spinti dalla voglia di non allontanarsi troppo dai propri dialetti, costumi e luoghi di origine, magari con la speranza di poter tornare in periodo di pace e contando, sicuramente, nelle grandi industrie del Nord per un lavoro sicuro. Anche il Sud Italia fu capace di assorbirne una parte, sviluppando un programma edilizio nelle città di Pescara, Taranto, Napoli, Messina, Catania, Sassari ed in altre.
