You can even buy a ticket to any tobacconist (in Italian “Tabacchi”) and newsstands at the same price. We invite you not to buy a ticket at the main ticket office to avoid queues. Once outside Cavour station, turn left into Via Leonina, and walk for 250 metres. You will cross Via dei Serpenti and then you will find the conference venue on your right, soon after Madonna Dei Monti church (see the picture in the first page). 11th FRAMILY page 2 of 5 2.3 By public transport (train + on foot) In a sunny day and in case you want to experience a nice walk in the city centre you can reach the conference venue on foot (approx. 20 minutes from Termini station). You will find the conference venue on your right. 11th FRAMILY page 4 of 5 5. Other ways to reach the conference venue from airports From Fiumicino or Ciampino airport you can catch a COTRAL bus (travel time approximately 1 hour, one way ticket € 3.60) or use a private company bus to arrive to Rome Termini central station. See for example Terravision (one-way ticket €4.00, 55 minutes trip, bus every 40 minutes, see http://www.terravision.eu). 6. Further information on transports In Rome, the underground metro lines are the quickest way of moving around. However, consider (when planning your time schedule) that metro could be overcrowded in peak hours. Just for example, to reach the Vatican Museums, Cipro metro station is the closest station, but be aware of potential queue when planning your visit. From Piazza di Spagna metro station (line A, the orange one) many major attractions are within walking distance: Pantheon, Piazza Navona, Trevi Fountain. Colosseum stop (metro B) will help you visiting Ancient Roman sites: the Colosseum itself, the Roman Forum, and Circo Massimo, which is close to the Caracalla Baths. Termini station is the only place where the two lines cross each other. If you are planning to use extensively public transport, you could think about buying an integrated ticket for 24h, 48h, 72h. Those special tickets can be purchased at every ticket machine, or even in several tabacconist (in Italian “Tabacchi”) and newsstands. Emmanuele Vaghi A.A. 2017-2018 ABSTRACT This work presents an analysis about the performances of the lines and the nodes involved in the upgrade process of Malpensa International Airport accessibility. This study is developed throughout a new complete analysis model consisting of the rational integration of existing methods. The methodology proposed and applied for the evaluation of the railway infrastructural upgrade solutions for the development of the connections between Milan and its airport is conveniently developed and improved according to the study requirements. The evaluation of line and node capacity is carried out considering the actual and future layouts of the railway network at a regional level and the actual and planned services offered by the railway supplier. The results obtained recommend infrastructural upgrades in order to make available the matching network capacity. The analysis of the lines and the nodes involved in this process, as well as the effectiveness of the proposed infrastructural improvements, is strengthened by a scheduling analysis and the application of a simulation method. i TABLE OF CONTENTS Abstract ..............................................................................................................................................

25th INTERNATIONAL FEDERATION OF HOSPITAL ENGINEERING CONGRESS IFHE MAY 27-31 2018 RIETI INVITATION Bologna June 10 2018 Dear International Federation of Hospital Engineering, The SIAIS (Italian Society for Architecture and Engineer for Healthcare) would be honoured to host in 2018, the IFHE 25th Congress, in Italy . The SIAIS believes that the opportunity to have in Italy the 25th edition of the IFHE Congress should not be missed for the following reasons: first of all, Italy is absent from the international scene for a long time, second is that the recurrence of twenty-five years cannot fail to see Italy, which in 1970 hosted the 1st IFHE Congress, as the organizer of this important moment in science. The proposed conference location is Rieti the centre of Italy. The proposed dates in 2018, are : from Sunday, May 27 to Thursday, May 31. The official languages of the congress will be English and Italian, therefore simultaneous translation from Italian to English and vice versa will be guaranteed. Should a large group of delegates of a particular language be present it will be possible to arrange a specific simultaneous translation. May is a very pleasant month in Rieti with nice weather, still long sunny days and warm temperatures. Rieti is an Italian town of 47 927 inhabitants of Latium, capital of the Province of Rieti. Traditionally considered to be the geographical center of Italy, and this referred to as "Umbilicus Italiae", is situated in a fertile plain down the slopes of Mount Terminillo, on the banks of the river Velino. Founded at the beginning of the Iron Age, became the most important city of the Sabine people.

  • Italian Railway Stations Heritage
Emilia Garda et al., Int. J. of Herit. Archit., Vol. 2, No. 2 (2018) 324–334 ITALIAN RAILWAY STATIONS HERITAGE EMILIA GARDA, ALBERTO GERBINO & MARIKA MANGOSIO Politecnico di Torino, Italy ABSTRACT The railway station represents the most advanced product of the architectural and technical culture of the age in which it was built. Nevertheless, the heritage of the railway stations can be considered as rather fragile. The knowledge of the construction history of these building is important in order to preserve the compositive values and the innovative technical solutions embedded in the building itself, particularly in case of a restoration or a complete renewal. The article aims to illustrate how the Ital- ian railway stations have been designed and built throughout the years. The study focuses first of all on the railway stations which marked the beginning of the railway lines such as Torino Porta Nuova and Milano Centrale, which can be considered an example of the splendour achieved by the railway stations before the Second World War. Secondly the study analyses the new railway stations which are the starting point for the high speed railway lines such as Torino Porta Susa and Roma Tiburtina. The article dwells not only on the evolution of the architectonical language and of the layout of the station, but it focuses also on the structural scheme of the roofing solutions, which in many cases represent the true element of modernity. Keywords: conservation, passengers’ building, railway roofs, railway stations, renewal, restoration. 1 INTRODUCTION Between the 17th and 18th centuries, Europe saw the birth of the ‘stage coach service’, a service used for transporting both post and passengers with vehicles with two or more wheels pulled by horses along carriage roads.
