Larger events and events in excess of 4 hours would incur additional charges. When a wedding ceremony and reception are at the same venue, the wedding ceremony is included in the event time. Bartending Services Our Bartending Service includes the portable bar, bartender, bartending tools, drink straws and cocktail napkins. The customer is responsible for providing the alcohol and fruit garnishes. Alcohol can be received the day before and will be placed in a walk in cooler to chill. One bartender can serve approximately 75 people. All prices include set up and clean up. The bartender will arrive one hour before your event to set up the bar and stay afterwards to clean up. We can serve beer, wine, Champagne and Margaritas. A security officer may be deemed appropriate and if so then there would be an additional charge. Cash Bar Non-profit organizations that request to have a cash bar will need to purchase a Special Events Liquor License from the Able Commission. This license will need to be presented to staff one week prior to the event. Event Policies 1. Guests are not allowed to serve their own alcohol. All alcohol will be under the care of the bartender and served only by a BEF Catering bartender. -

Tiessen Photography by Jennifer Olson 50 | edible San Luis Obispo | SPRING 2021 SIPS hen I ask Eva Verdin of Old Juan’s Cantina in Oceano if she knows W the history of the margarita, she offers the most creative version I have heard yet. “I heard John Wayne invented the margarita at a party he was having — I think in Mexico,” she says, laughing. But she can’t pinpoint what year. And a few towns over, Leonard Cohen, owner of San Luis Obispo’s La Esquina Taqueria, is so sure of the year that he named their “skinny” margarita the “Original 1941,” after it. Sometime, somewhere, someone invented the margarita. But your best guess as to when and where, or who dreamed up this delightfully tart and satisfying drink, is just about as good as anyone’s. It’s a classic refreshment with sweet and sour roots stretching as far back as the late 1930s — at least according to some. The most widely accepted rumor is that the margarita was concocted by Dallas socialite Margaret “Margarita” Sames in 1948, which was quite the year in U.S. history. The first color reel was shot in Pasadena, NASCAR was incorporated and Herb H. Hoover became the first civilian to exceed the speed of sound at Edwards AFB in California. And in Acapulco, on a ritzy Mexican vacation, experimental Marge and her similarly wealthy friends were just dying for a tequila. -
