Gauging Footwork in Defending Against Kicking Attacks in Kenpo
Gauging Footwork in Defending Against Kicking Attacks in Kenpo 1st Degree Black Belt Thesis By Mr. David Byrne Celbridge Kenpo Karate Academy Introduction The following are the eight techniques selected for analysis: • Deflecting Hammer- Straight Right Kick • Thrusting Salute- Straight Left Kick • Swinging Pendulum- Right Roundhouse Kick • Detour From Doom- Right Round House Kick • Hugging Pendulum- Right Thrusting Knife Kick • Retreating Pendulum- Rear Cross Heel Kick • Dance of Darkness- Straight Right Kick Right Punch • Unwinding Pendulum- Straight Right Kick Right Punch One of the most difficult things to do when faced with an attacker is to decide what weapons he will employ - Hands, Feet, Knife, Bottle or Stick and how to react with the correct block or defence in a split second. The most important consideration initially must be range and environment. By using your judgement and experience to gauge your attackers range, you can increase the distance between you, which gives you time to decide on your defence, reduces your chance of injury and unsettles your opponent by removing his advantage of intent and forethought. As Mr. Parker said "Distance is your best friend". This is known in Kenpo as Depth Perception which allows you to follow the logical sequence of how I have been taught all of my techniques, the most important is the first one, followed by the second and third. The eight considerations or factors that must be followed in combat if you are to be successful are : • Environment • Range • Position • Manoeuvres • Targets • Natural Weapons • Block • Cover I have chosen eight techniques from our syllabus in order to show how Kenpo uses depth perception and gauging footwork to prevent and eliminate the threat. -
Tenaga Dalam Volume 2 - August 1999
Tenaga Dalam Volume 2 - August 1999 The Voice of the Indonesian Pencak Silat Governing Board - USA Branch Welcome to the August issue of Tenaga Dalam. A lot has occurred since May issue. Pendekar Sanders had a very successful seminar in Ireland with Guru Liam McDonald on May 15-16, a very large and successful seminar at Guru Besar Jeff Davidson’s school on June 5-6 and he just returned from a seminar in England. The seminar at Guru Besar Jeff Davidson’s was video taped and the 2 volume set can be purchased through Raja Naga. Tape 1 consists of blakok (crane) training and Tape 2 has about 15 minutes more of blakok training followed by a very intense training session in various animal possessions including the very rare Raja Naga possession. Guru Besar Davidson and his students should be commended on their excellent portrayal of the art. Tape 1 is available to the general public, but due to the intense nature of tape 2 you must be a student. It is with great sadness that I must report that Guru William F. Birge passed away. William was a long time personal student of Pendekar Sanders and he will be missed by all of the people that he came into contact with. 1 Tribute to Guru William F. ABSTRAK Etnik Bajau Merupakan Etnik Kedua Terbesar Di Kota Belud

The name, personifies Spyderco’s line of folding knives with clips. The verb refers to the physical action of being able to clip the knife to your clothing. We’re human and creatures of convenience. Minute by minute we create, adjust and are predisposed to gravitate to the tool that performs best and is easily applied to the task in front of us. Illustrating that instinctive quest for the best, explains the success of the CLIPIT knife. Almost all Spyderco knives are CLIPITs. The idea surfaced in the 1980s when Sal Glesser (Spyderco’s founder) imagined, then designed, a folding pocketknife with three revolutionary features: A clothing clip, a way to open the knife with one-hand (The Spyderco Round Hole) and serrations on a folding knife blade. These concepts lifted pocketknife function to a higher level. Clips shifted the knife’s weight from the bottom of a pocket to the top, attaching the knife inside so it sat/rode flat regardless of size and wasn’t as likely to be dropped or lost. The Spyderco Round Hole enabled the folder’s blade to open with one hand, leaving your other hand free. -

Symbolism towards the elements of nature is often used to express various ideas and meanings about their practices, culture, and life. This research uses a qualitative approach as a whole. Data obtained through qualitative approach using observations and interviews. Overall research has found that the human mind is made up of natural properties. Humans learn from nature and create the aesthetics they learn from it. Nature is made as a 'teacher', a human mind built from nature. This means that the developing world teaches humans to think creatively and to create something using natural resources, such as parang Ilang. Every event that happens around human life may not be separated from nature. The Iban people live in a natural environment. For them, nature is a ‘teacher’ to solve all the problems that occur in their lives. -
