PRESS RELEASE Directorate of Public Relations (Navy) Tel: 021- 48506127-8, 21- 9201467, 051-20062097 REAR ADMIRAL MUHAMMAD FAYYAZ GILANI TAKES OVER COASTAL COMMAND OF PAKISTAN NAVY Islamabad, 04 Jan 19:` Rear Admiral Muhammad Fayyaz Gilani has taken over the command as Commander Coast in an impressive change of command ceremony held at PNS QASIM, and Rear Admiral Moazzam Ilyas handed over the command. On assumption of command, he is now Commander of all units and establishments of Pakistan Navy along the Coastal belt and Creeks Areas. Admiral would also head Special Services Group (Navy) and Pak Marines. Rear Admiral Muhammad Fayyaz Gilani was commissioned in Operations Branch of Pakistan Navy in 1984. During his illustrious career, Rear Admiral Muhammad Fayyaz Gilani served on various Command and Staff appointments. His Command appointments include Commanding officer PNS PISHIN and PNS MOAWIN. His Staff appointments include Chief Staff Officer to Commander Pakistan Fleet, Naval Secretary, Deputy Chief of Naval Staff (Projects), Deputy Chief of Naval Staff (Personnel), Deputy Chief of Naval Staff (Operations) and Deputy Chief of Naval Staff (Training & Evaluation). The Admiral has also served as Naval Attaché of Pakistan in Washington. Admiral is graduate of Pakistan Navy War College, National Defence University Islamabad and also holds Masters Degree in Military Operational Research from Cranfield University UK. Rear Admiral Muhammad Fayyaz Gilani is recipient of Hilal e Imtiaz (Military). On assumption of Command, the newly appointed Commander Coast was presented the Guard of Honour and was introduced to Commanding Officers of the units under command. The weeklong Exercise provides the forum to various participating nations to interact and promote Maritime cooperation. In tandem with various activities of the exercise, International Bands Display and Maritime Counter Terrorism Demonstration were held at PNS QASIM Manora, Karachi. Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC), General Nadeem Raza graced the occasion as Chief Guest and appreciated the efforts of Pakistan Navy in conducting the Multinational Maritime Exercise AMAN 2021 in a befitting manner. An impressive International Bands Display was presented by bands of the participating countries of AMAN 21, aiming to connect the countries through cultural legacies. The military bands from Sri Lanka, Tri Services of Pakistan, Sindh Rangers and Coast Guard played traditional and military tunes. The fascinating melodies were appreciated by the audience. Besides, an enthralling Special Rifle Drill by Pak Marine was also a part of the event displaying excellent performance of spins and expert maneuvers. Additionally, counter terrorism demonstration was another forceful display of strength and specialized skills by Special Operations Forces to counter acts of maritime terrorism, refine special operating procedures, exchange of professional expertise and to enhance interoperability with participating SOF teams. Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee, General Nadeem Raza lauded the professionalism of the participants and also underlined that Exercise AMAN 21 will promote Regional cooperation and stability, greater interoperability and united resolve against terrorism and crimes in maritime domain.

Chief of the Naval Staff, Admiral Zafar Mahmood Abbasi graced the occasion as Chief Guest. Upon his arrival, the Chief Guest was received by Commander Coast, Vice Admiral Muhammad Fayyaz Gilani. Efficiency Competition Parade is conducted annually by Coastal Command of Pakistan Navy to mark the culmination of its operational year; wherein, efficiency shields are awarded to the selected units based on their achievements throughout the year. While addressing the ceremony, the Chief Guest highlighted that Coastal Command of Pakistan Navy has been entrusted with the onerous task of safeguarding the Coast from Sir Creek to Jiwani, under challenging internal and external security situation and harsh topographic environment. The Naval Chief also expressed satisfaction over operational readiness of Pakistan Navy in prevalent maritime challenges including security aspects related to Gwadar Port and maritime components of CPEC Project. The Naval Chief reiterated Pakistan Navy’s unflinching resolve to ensure seaward defence of vital maritime infrastructure and protection of maritime interests of Pakistan against all threats and challenges.
