They will be very similar to our monthly Tea at the Rectory with Tea and cakes but we will start with a short discussion about some of the issues of the day and how we respond as Christians. 1. Same sex marriage/civil partnerships: The Bishop’s pastoral letter on this subject has received much criticism including from clergy. Do you have an opinion? Assisted dying: Often in the news, many have called for changes in the law, How do we feel? 2. Global warming: Do we believe it, and if we do, what can we do as individuals and what is our duty as Christians? 3. Asylum seekers or economic refugees. Are we welcoming to those fleeing from areas of conflict? Or are we tempted to blame them for our troubles? For the fifth week we will have a ‘normal’ Tea and cakes afternoon. Make a note in your diary Come and See. The Bishop’s Mission to Yorkshire will be visiting Upper Ryedale on Saturday 14th March. Come and See is the Northern Bishops’ Mission to the Diocese of York, led by the Archbishop of York taking place from 12th to 15th March 2020. Come and See is an opportunity for us to unite in local mission and evangelism. We pray, we invite, we celebrate and we offer hospitality, all in the power of the Holy Spirit, telling the Good News of Jesus Christ. *************************************************************** *************************************************************** Come and See for yourself Garden Party at the Rectory (inside if wet) 3pm. Cold Kirby Village Hall Dates for your Diary: Saturday, 14th March – Pop up Pub Wednesday, 18th March— Mini Bookmark Wednesday, 1st April – Mini Bookmark Friday, 3rd April – Scary Bikers Saturday, 11th April – Pop up Cafe Monday, 27th April – Cold Kirby Village Hall AGM DRAMA COMES TO COLD KIRBY! - In a new venture for the village hall we have teamed up the White Lodge Theatre Company to put on John Godber’s “Scary Bikers”, a lively comedy which should put a smile on all our faces. Much of the action takes place in a cafe bar, so we will be setting the hall out cabaret style with a licensed bar and ensuring everyone can see the action while enjoying a glass of something. The play by Yorkshire playwright John Godber won great reviews when it came out in 2018 so it should be an entertaining night. Tickets £10 to include some nibbles. Please book by calling Jerry Walker on 01845 597851 or emailing [email protected] POP-UP PUB NIGHTS AND CAFE MORNINGS - we plan to continue to hold these alternately on the second Saturday of every month. Thanks to everyone who came along to the cafe in February, when the bacon butties seemed to go down well. Next pub night will be from 7.30pm on 14 March. Looking forward to seeing you there. Mini bookmark- for preschool and primary aged children. A chance to share a book, socialise and craft. We are trialling the running of this on a Wednesday evening to fit around various after school activities. Next dates are 18th March, 1st April, with a 5.30pm start. Contact Becky 07985676385 for more details. AGM - New Date – we are postponing the AGM until Monday 27 April. More details in next month’s Parish News. HALL IMPROVEMENTS - as described in last months Parish News we have plans to improve the furniture and fittings in the hall this year. We are still putting the funding together and in addition to our own fund raising the good news is that we have been offered a community grant by the County Council which will cover some of the costs. All ideas for improvements are always welcome. Come along to the AGM to have your say. Hawnby Dominoes At the Village Hall at 7.30pm on Fridays. National Character 25. North York Moors and Cleveland Hills Area profile: Supporting documents www.gov.uk/natural-england 1 National Character 25. North York Moors and Cleveland Hills Area profile: Supporting documents Introduction National Character Areas map As part of Natural England’s responsibilities as set out in the Natural Environment 1 2 3 White Paper , Biodiversity 2020 and the European Landscape Convention , we are North revising profiles for England’s 159 National Character Areas (NCAs). These are areas East that share similar landscape characteristics, and which follow natural lines in the landscape rather than administrative boundaries, making them a good decision- Yorkshire making framework for the natural environment. & The North Humber NCA profiles are guidance documents which can help communities to inform their West decision-making about the places that they live in and care for. The information they contain will support the planning of conservation initiatives at a landscape East scale, inform the delivery of Nature Improvement Areas and encourage broader Midlands partnership working through Local Nature Partnerships. The profiles will also help West Midlands to inform choices about how land is managed and can change. East of England Each profile includes a description of the natural and cultural features that shape our landscapes, how the landscape has changed over time, the current key London drivers for ongoing change, and a broad analysis of each area’s characteristics and ecosystem services. Statements of Environmental Opportunity (SEOs) are South East suggested, which draw on this integrated information. The SEOs offer guidance South West on the critical issues, which could help to achieve sustainable growth and a more secure environmental future.

21 May 2020 List Number 4 North York Moors National Park Authority Hambleton District App No. NYM/2020/0157/FL Parish: Bilsdale Midcable Proposal: Erection of office/domestic store, wood store and associated hard standing Location: Chalet at Bank House Farm, Chop Gate, Applicant: Mr & Mrs O and J Reynolds, Chalet at Bank House Farm, Chop Gate, TS9 7JD Agent: Cheryl Ward Planning, 5 Valley View, Ampleforth, YO62 4DQ Date for Decision: 29 April 2020 Grid Ref: 455794 500956 Director of Planning’s Recommendation Refusal for the following reasons: 1. Development Policy 10 seeks to ensure development related to employment or training in the open countryside to be located within an existing building. The current siting away from both the main farm steading and forestry workshop is considered to amount to unacceptable sporadic development in the countryside which relates poorly to the existing buildings. 2. The chalet development near the location in question was original approved as a site for short term holiday letting accommodation. Insufficient justification has been demonstrated to site a permanent office building in a detached location, even taking account the presence of a holiday/forestry workers cabin, and as such the proposed retention conflicts with the locational criteria of Development Policy 3. 3. The design of the proposed building by means of its construction with a solid concrete foundation is not considered to be compatible with the surrounding buildings or the woodland setting as required by Development Policy 3. The other buildings in the locality have been constructed so as they could be removed without significant impact on the setting of the woodland should the current use no longer be required.

The property has been converted to create the sizable house it is today. Located close to the world famous Coast to Coast walk and Cleveland Way walks, it offers great potential for the international leisure business which could be developed by converting its large barn. Additionally, it is at the hub of a network of bridleways for the experienced horse rider. The Bilsdale Hunt is reputedly the oldest in the UK, starting in 1668. The house itself is constructed of herringbone cut stone elevations with inset timber windows and a traditional pantile roof and retains a wealth of character both externally and internally. The accommodation, which requires some updating and modernising, provides good living space with a sitting room, beamed dining room and further first floor sitting room. Elsewhere on the ground floor there is a study, kitchen with a solid fuel range (providing heating and hot water), utility room, and three bedrooms. The first floor is reached by three separate staircases.
