It’s a perfect describer of Suzuki’s first-generation GSX-Rs. Because if ever there was a ‘radically new’ motorcycle, or one that was ‘beyond established principles,’ it was Suzuki’s 1985 GSX-R750 – and the GSX-R1100 that followed in ’86. As one motorcycle journalist wrote in 1985, “Sportbikes will soon be divided into two categories: before the GSX-R, and after.” Nicely put. The instant it debuted in late 1984 at Germany’s Cologne show, the GSX-R750 electrified the motorcycle world. Few in attendance, or those who read about the bike in motorcycle magazines in later months, could fully absorb the bike’s radical full-fairing look, its astounding dry weight, or the idea that careful and conservative Suzuki had built – and planned to sell! – what was basically a road racer with lights. It certainly looked the part. With its clip- ons, dual headlights, ultra-lithe aluminum chassis and purposeful, business-only stance, the GSX-R appeared as if it might have rolled into the viewing hall after an hour-long endurance-race session at LeMans or Suzuka.

  • Randy Mamola

Classic Bike Magazine/AHRMA West Coast Historie Series, reported by Mike Nicks EIGHT-times world Champion Phil Read enjoyed his most successful ride since his entry into classic competition when he took third place in the 500cc Premier race at the Budweiser/Nissan 200 meeting at Laguna Seca, California. ‘That’s given me a lot of confidence,’ said the 47-year-old former MV and Yamaha works rider, who was entered on a Team Obsolete Matchless G50. ‘Now I need a faster engine,’ he added, only half jokingly. Team manager Robert Iannucci, who had seen Dave Roper win the race on another Obsolete G50, agreed with Read: ‘Phil probably had the last of our Standard engines. He could definitely have used a little more motor.’ The meeting, attended by more than 40,000, formed a round of the AMA Superbike national championship, and gave classic machines two races on the Saturday, one on the Sunday and a parade. Organised by AHRMA (American Historie Racing Motorcycle Association), CVRG (California Vintage Racing Group) and VROOM (Vintage Racers of Old Motorcycles), the events formed part of the Classic Bike Magazine West Coast Historie Series. A Champion was to be decided from performances in the 500cc Premier races at Laguna and the Sears Point, California, AMA national in late August.

Rennen! Races! Vitesse! Racing Circuits Netherlands Belgium Germany Austria Luxembourg Switzerland Rob Semmeling Rennen! Races! Vitesse! Page 2 Contents Foreword 3 Netherlands 5 Belgium 44 Germany 78 Austria 133 Luxembourg & Switzerland 148 Copyright © Rob Semmeling 2009-2016 / all rights reserved www.wegcircuits.nl Rennen! Races! Vitesse! Page 3 Foreword Motorsport essentially consists of three ingredients. First, you need a motor vehicle - which can be anything from a Formula 1 car to a lawn mower, or from a MotoGP motorcycle to a pocket bike. Second, you need a driver or rider to operate the vehicle, and finally, a place to go racing - a circuit. To most people this last ingredient is probably the least interesting. The number of books about famous racing drivers and cars, or great riders and their motorcycles, is far larger than the number of books about racing circuits. However, to me circuits are the most interesting aspect of motorsport, for two main reasons. First is their great diversity: in terms of shape, layout, length, difficulty, fame and many other factors, every circuit is different, and each has its own story to tell. Second, it is fascinating to see just how many circuits there are. Once you start looking, you can find them just about any- where. Finding lost circuits or discovering long-forgotten tracks is one of the most fun aspects of researching racing circuits. When looking for information about racing circuits online, I often found it frustrating that the available sources were not complete, and that they often lacked detail and accuracy. This is one of the reasons why I started my website www.wegcircuits.nl and why I made Rennen! Races! Vitesse! - a downloadable pdf-file that lists racing circuits of past and present in four European countries: the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany and Austria.

  • Gli Amici Di Claudio 2014
GLI AMICI DI CLAUDIO 2014 Varese, 6 May 2014 - At Schiranna, the home of MV Agusta, it's all coming together for the grand gathering to be held on 18 May at the legendary factory on the shores of Lake Varese. “GLI AMICI DI CLAUDIO” is a massive event that will see enthusiasts of Aermacchi, Cagiva and MV Agusta - three awesome motorcycle brands that have succeeded each other since 1950 - descend en masse on the factory near Varese. First started by Aermacchi, the tradition of excell ence was successfully continued by Cagiva and is now being carried forwards by MV Agusta with superb sales and racing results. Moreover, the production plant will also be opening its doors to fans of Husqvarna and Ducati, two brands that were bought, saved and put back on the road to success by the company headed by Castiglioni. Sunday 18th May will, then, be a day of festivities dedicated to the memory of Claudio Castiglioni, the President of MV Agusta and founder of Cagiva who passed away in summer 2011. In November 1978 Cagiva arose from the ashes of the glorious Aermacchi, which had been manufacturing at Schiranna since 1950. Cagiva continued the dual Aermacchi traditions of mass production and competitive racing, winning over the market thanks to models that proved to be outstanding on account of their excellent technical features, handling and style. Following the success of Cagiva, Claudio Castiglioni proved his unique entrepreneurial skills yet again by bringing the glorious MV Agusta brand back from the brink and relaunching it on the market.

  • Ducati Museum
Ducati Museum Past and future, challenges and successes, vision and determination: the Ducati Museum is a journey through the legendary 90-year history of the Company, renowned across the world for its style, performance and the search for perfection. Each product is a work of art. A story told using language composed of shapes and colours, emphasised by delicate, ethereal staging. An intense adventure, in which every bike exhibited becomes a true work of art to be experienced. The new Ducati Museum is characterised by its very modern concept, in which the colour white dominates so as to ensure that the product takes centre stage, with no distractions. Each bike exhibited is a work of art, a story told using a language composed of shapes and colours and emphasised by dedicated installations. In addition, the new Ducati Museum exudes the Ducati brand identity of Style, Sophistication and Performance. With its new look, the Ducati Museum is a journey through legendary Ducati history, to the heart of a company in which every product is conceived, designed and created to provide unique emotions. The new Ducati Museum has an entire area dedicated to some of the most iconic road bikes that have contributed to making the company’s history so great. And it is here that the story of the so-called “production bike” is recounted in its entirety, or rather, the conception and development of the project in very particular technological, economic and social contexts. This leads to the Museum’s new narrative, developed according to three paths: the history of Ducati production bikes and the social and cultural context in which they are conceived; the racing history with exhibits including race bikes and winners’ trophies, and finally the ‘Ducati heroes’, or rather the Ducati riders themselves.
