You will Ffind most fishing piers packed with fishermen, particularly dur- ing the weekend. If you are one of Kuwait’s many fishing fanatics but you haven’t found an ideal spot for the day’s best catches, Kuwait Times has done the search for you and found some of the best fishing spots in Kuwait. Ali Zaki, a long-time fisherman in Kuwait said: “My fishing time depends on the tides. When it is high tide, I go straight to Shuwaikh beach - it is my best fishing spot.” Zaki told Kuwait Times that “there is also an excellent spot in front of the National Assembly building where you can catch the yellow fin sea bream and the small beji fish, but it’s best to go there at dawn.” Abo Hussein had a different opinion about the best fishing spots. “Some of the best places for shore fishing is the pier at the Scientific Centre. I pay KD 23 per year to use it and get regular discounts. I think it is a good deal if you are looking for a place that is away from the public eye. But nowadays you can find me near the Burj Al-Hamam restaurant because I’m with my family and it is a good spot to be fish- ing with the special ones in your life,” he said. Hussein pointed out that at the Scientific Centre’s fishing pier, you will find a vast array of species such as the yellow fin sea bream, winem, fiskr, buleil, mazizi, subaiti, qarqfan and nuwaibi. “You can also rent a boat for better fish- ing as boats have easier access to ports at all times.” But if you are looking for a place where you can be alone without a lot of fishermen around you, you can go to Balajat’s “special place. There is a secluded place behind the fire station on Balajat Street which only a few people know about. The place is quite good, but you have to be patient to catch the big fish,” Sherif Al-Hattab said. Sitting behind the McDonald’s fishing pier - sadly with no fish in his basket - Forhad Ahbani said: “ I guess today is not my lucky day, but yesterday I got a lot of nuwaibi when I was fishing near Kuwait Towers on Chili’s fishing pier”. Saleh Al-Obaidi was another unlucky fisherman at Souq Sharq’s fishing pier. “I told my friend that Souq Sharq is not a good spot for fishing, but he won’t hear any of it. In my opinion, the best spots are Al-Zour and Khairan’s fishing piers, where you will find many expert fishermen.
