Hamdard University in PURSUIT OF Hamdard University IN PURSUIT OF EXCELLENCE Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities Introduction Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities (FSSH) has the privilege to be the first constituent Institute of Hamdard University. The priority given to this Institute was a clear manifestation of Shaheed Hakim Mohammed Said’s realization of the importance of teacher education in the development of future generations. The basic statement, which later became the motto of the Institute, was “the production of the unconventional, capable, dynamic, creative, democratic and innovative teacher.” FSSH established itself as a reputed organization, producing research scholars in the various fields of social sciences and education. Students from all over the country find expressions in our various programs of studies, which have all the characteristics to be called “unique” due to their extraordinary emphasis on character building, original reflection and creativity. In recent decades, FSSH categorically produced a number of professionals whose effect on the society has become visible in due course of time and has established itself as a mighty name in education sector of Pakistan, providing quality teaching in the various fields of social sciences, humanities, English (linguistic & Literature) and Education- specifically Special Education, Health Education, Environment, Human Rights Education and Media Studies. Surgery, Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, Karachi, PAK Corresponding author: Batool Zehra Asjad, [email protected] Abstract Breast tuberculosis (TB) is rare among extrapulmonary tuberculosis cases, and the diagnosis is usually preceded by a high index of suspicion and findings of granulomatous lesions. We conducted this study to evaluate different clinical presentations of breast TB, including its diagnosis and association with lactation. We also examined the association of breast TB with TB elsewhere in the body and contact history. This prospective, descriptive study was conducted at a tertiary care hospital in Karachi, Pakistan from March 2017 to March 2019. The study population consisted of 100 women of age ranging from 30 to 39 years after 10 patients were lost to follow-up. After providing informed written consent and a histopathology or culture report, participants completed a proforma. We used IBM SPSS Statistics for Windows, Version 22.0 (IBM Corp., Armonk, NY) to analyze the data, which were kept confidential. Twenty-four patients had diabetes, while 36 patients had no comorbidities. The most consistent symptoms were breast pain (98%), breast lump (89%), fever (83%), and discharge (45%).

    Hamdard University IN PURSUIT OF EXCELLENCE PROSPECTUS 2018 - 19 THE FOUNDER Shaheed Hakim Mohammed Said (1920-1998) established Hamdard Dawakhana Pakistan in 1948. Within few years, the herbal medicines products of Hamdard became household names. The phenomenal business success of Hamdard brands is a legendary part of the business history of Pakistan. The name Hamdard however acquired a still wider meaning, when Shaheed Hakim Mohammed Said founded Hamdard University in 1991. The establishment of a university which could enliven the intellectual traditions of the educational institutions of the Golden Era of Muslim Civilization, had always been his most cherished dream. In fact, it was the central point towards which all his endeavors were directed. The founding of the University was the culmination of a long dedicated and continued effort which spanned over his whole life. Apart from being a great educational leader, Shaheed Hakim Mohammed Said was also one of the finest exponents of Eastern Medicine, who had treated millions of patients the world over by the time of his martyrdom (Shahadat) in October 1998. In the fifty years of his active career as a practitioner of Greco- Arab medicine par excellence, Shaheed Hakim Mohammed Said also achieved international fame as a scholar and researcher in medicine. In recognition of his meritorious services and scholarly achievements he was awarded Nishan-e- lmtiaz (Posthumous) by the Government of Pakistan, in 2002. A prolific writer, he had to his credit a large number of books and articles. He edited many research journals and periodicals on medicine, history and Islam. Shaheed Hakim Mohammed Said also created two effective national forums: Hamdard Shura (for public opinion leaders) and Hamdard Naunehal Assembly (for children).

This study was based on survey method. From the population five universities were selected, where Alumni Associations exists.
