NOTES • The 101st season in Lenoir-Rhyne Football history is one like no other. For the first time ever, the Bears will compete in spring games and today serves as the 2020-21 home opener. The four-game regular season slate concludes with a home game against Catawba on April 10. Should the Bears advance to the SAC Champion- ship game, that will be played on April 17. • Lenoir-Rhyne has won 18 straight games against South Atlantic Conference opponents with two of those wins coming in the NCAA Playoffs. The last loss to a SAC foe came back on Nov. 11, 2017 when the Bears dropped a 24-20 contest at Catawba. • This is the first LR home game since Dec. 7, 2019 in the NCAA Quarterfinal. • LR hasn’t lost a regular season home game since a last-second loss at No. 12 West Alabama on August 30, 2018. The Bears have won 22 straight regular seaso ngames and haven’t lost in the regular season in 932 days. • The Bears and Barton haven’t met since 1950. Barton, who then competed as Atlantic Christian, has never beaten Lenoir-Rhyne. • Lenoir-Rhyne is 52-34-4 all-time in home openers and have won two straight. Lenoir-Rhyne and Barton (aka Atlantic Christian) last met in a season opener back in 1946 with Lenoir-Rhyne coming away with a 14-6 victory. In fact, those six points are the only points scored by Barton in the entire rivalry. LR has shut out the Bulldogs in all but one game. • This will also serve as the home-opener for Head Coach Mike Jacobs and his new coaching staff who have waited since being hired in December of 2019 to coach a game at Moretz Stadium.

6 7 LENOIR-RHYNE FOOTBALL Official Team Physicians of GAME PREVIEW Lenoir-Rhyne University Lenoir-Rhyne and Barton renew a rivalry that has been dormant since 1950 in the 2020-21 Lenoir-Rhyne Football home opener. Barton, who then competed as Atlantic Christian, has never beaten Lenoir-Rhyne with the Bears holding a 9-0 edge. In fact, Barton has scored just six points all-time against LR with the Bears shutting out Barton eight times.

The Bears haven’t played at home since dropping an NCAA Quarterfinal Playoff game against West Florida and put a streak of 18 straight wins against South Atlantic Conference opponents on the line against Barton. The last loss against a SAC opponent came back on Nov. 11, 2017 when the Bears dropped a 24-20 contest at Catawba.

The Bears haven’t lost a regular season game since the 2018 season-opener when they fell 35-32 against No. 12 West Alabama in the final seconds. The Bears have won 22 straight regular season contests overall. In total, the Bears have gone 932 days since they last loss in the regular season.

Barton is 0-2 on the year and are coming off a 55-14 loss against Wingate last weekend. In their season-open- er, the Bulldogs lost a 30-28 contest against Erskine in a battle of first year programs.

In the Lenoir-Rhyne season-opener, the Bears survived in double overtime at Newberry last Friday evening. Running back Dwayne McGee toted the rock 30 times for 160 yards, a record in the NCAA Era for a debuting running back. At EmergeOrtho: Foothills Region, the region’s most preferred orthopaedic practice,* we are proud to serve as the official team physicians for the elite athletes Ryan Carter added five catches for 51 yards and true freshman QB Sean White guided the Bears to victory in his first career start by throwing the game-winning touchdown to fellow freshman Kelin Parsons in double OT. at Lenoir-Rhyne University.

Defensively, Jon Ross Maye was selected as the South Atlantic Conference’s Defensive Player of the Week as the Our specialty-trained sports medicine doctors are dedicated leaders who are freshman LB made 14 tackles in the game. That tackle total is the highest in a single game by any player in the league so far this season. Fellow freshman LB Percy King had six stops but added an intercepetion which he committed to providing athletes—and their fans—with the world-class care they returned for a touchdown. need to emerge stronger, healthier, and better.

This is one of just two regular season home games for Lenoir-Rhyne on the season. The Bears will wrap up the regular season at home against Catawba on April 10. To schedule an appointment with one of our providers, please call (866) 324-2850.
