Rick Herdes Men's Basketball Head Coach Location The University of Southern Indiana was founded on the banks of the Ohio River in Evansville in 1965. USI is a comfortable drive from the major metropolitan centers of Indianapolis, Cincinnati, Louisville, Nashville, and St. Louis. The Campus The Nursing and Health Professions Center, Science and Wright Administration Building, the Education Center, and the Orr Center are located on the north side of campus. Rice Library, the Univer- sity Center, the Liberal Arts Center, the Technology Center, and the Business and Engineering Center, now under construction, form the quadrangle in the center of campus. The Physical Activities Center and the Recreation and Fitness Center, which is getting a substantial addition, are located east of the University Boulevard, a major thoroughfare through campus. Apartment buildings and residence halls are home to 3,000 students who live on campus. Academic Life The University enrolls 9,939 students and offers undergraduate majors in 70 areas of study. An ever-increasing number of post- graduate programs also are available to students who wish to continue their education. Opportunities are available for service learning, study abroad, and internships. Campus Life Outside the classroom, students have opportunities to participate in more than 90 organizations offering co-curricular and extra- curricular activities. Special interest clubs, student government, sororities and fraternities, music and drama groups, and other organizations enable the students to enjoy and contribute to cam- pus life. Residence Life The more than 3,000 students living on campus have their choice of two types of housing. Students can live in standard apartments or in suite-style housing in residence halls which have amenities such as Internet connections, wireless Internet, and cable televi- sion. Computer labs, laundromats, a convenience store, outdoor and indoor recreation areas, and student lounges contribute to an efficient living environment that has proven to be overwhelmingly popular to students. Meal plans also are available at the Univer- sity Center, which is located in the center of campus. Financial Assistance USI provides families with an affordable way to higher education. While some families find that they can handle the cost of a USI education without financial assistance, others qualify for need- based financial packages, including grants, loans, and on-campus jobs. The classic features four NCAA Division II men’s basketball contests involving two schools apiece from both the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) and the Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC). In addition to the host Bulldogs, who compete in the GLIAC, the field also includes Southern Indiana and Indianapolis of the GLVC along with the GLIAC member Wayne State. Both the FSU Athletics Department and the local Lions Club have partnered with other service clubs throughout the district to promote the event in various schools and civic organizations across the area. The Ferris State University men’s basketball program, which claimed the 2003-04 GLIAC North Division cham- pionship, compiled a 14-14 overall record in 2003-04, including a 14-4 GLIAC North Division mark under head coach Bill Sall. FSU has won more GLIAC championships (10) than any other league member. Wayne State, Indianapolis and Southern Indiana all reached the NCAA Division II Great Lakes Regional Tournament in 2003-04. Also acknowledgment is due a number ot graduate students of The Ohio State University who have written similar historical treatments. Although the names of the residents of Wyoming who have rendered invaluable service would necessitate a list too lengthy tor inclusion at this time, it is the writer's desire to express appreciation to Mrs. Jessie Warman Wilson, a member of the first graduating class of the Wyoming High School, Mrs. Brayton M. Graft (deceased), Mr. Harold Bush, Mr. Bernard Bradbury, Mrs. E. B. Cluff, Mr. Ralph Foster, Mr. Jon Boss, Mrs. Ruth Martin, and Mrs. Marcella Dicken.
