The regular season begins on the road for the second time in three years when the Screaming Eagles fly to Las Vegas, Nevada, to play in the D2 Vegas Showdown November 13-14. The Eagles are slated to play NCAA II Midwest Region opponents University of Findlay and Lake Superior State University. LSSU was an NCAA II Midwest Regional team last spring. Following the neutral site tournament to start the season, USI opens the home schedule with Lees-McRae College November 18. The USI-Lees McRae matchup begins the six-game non-conference home schedule that includes the ninth-annual Bill Joergens Memorial Classic November 27 and 28. The 2015 Bill Joergens Memorial Classics features USI, Bellarmine University, which advanced to the NCAA II Elite semifinals in March, Midwestern State University, which reached the finals of the NCAA II South Central Regional, and Ohio Valley University. USI concludes the 2015 non-conference calendar in December with the Bellarmine Classic against Shaw University (December 11) and St. Catharine University (December 12) and home contests at the PAC versus Spalding University on (December 19) and Purdue University North Central (December 30) For a second year, the GLVC action features an 18-game conference schedule that includes at least one game against every school in the league and home-and-home series with selected teams from the GLVC East Division. The 2015-16 home-and-home slate includes East Division rivals McKendree University (December 3 at the PAC; February 20 in Lebanon, Missouri), the University of Illinois Springfield (December 5 at the PAC; February 18 in Springfield, Illinois), and Bellarmine University (January 18 in Louisville, Kentucky; February 25 at the PAC). The remainder of USI’s home conference schedule includes match-ups with Quincy University (January 14), Truman State University (January 16), the University of Indianapolis (January 28), Saint Joseph’s (January 30), Maryville University (February 11), and the University of Missouri-St. Louis (February 13). The road portion of January and February’s GLVC slate includes Rockhurst University (January 7), William Jewell College (January 9), Lewis University (January 21), the University of Wisconsin-Parkside (January 23), Drury University (February 4), and Missouri University of Science & Technology (February 6) “The GLVC regular season will be as strong of a test for us as it is every year,” said Watson. “The conference has produced our region’s representative in the NCAA II Elite Eight each of the last six seasons and we need to join that group.” The GLVC Tournament is slated to begin February 28 at campus sites before completing the final three rounds March 3-6 at the Family Arena in St. Charles, Missouri. The NCAA II Midwest Regional is set for March 11-15, while the NCAA II Elite Eight moves to Dallas, Texas, March 22-26 after a two-year stint in Evansville. USI has won 20-or-more games in 20 of the last 23 seasons and has reached 25-or-more wins six of the last 14 years. USI has a record of 139-38 (.785) and won a pair of GLVC championships under the direction of Head Coach Rodney Watson since 2009-10. USI has six teams on the schedule that appeared in the 2015 NCAA Division II Tournament (Drury, Bellarmine, Indianapolis, UW-Parkside, Lake Superior State, and Midwestern State).
