A Mission to fulfil - The Territorial Commander sharing the Word The TC's entry point to his message was a reminder of what transpired on 25 September 1985 in our Country during the time of the struggle. The political crises we faced in our Country was unbearable. He narrated the happenings of that era. South Africa was seen by the church as going up in flames, the struggle caught an uncontrollable stage, the country faced a dark age, it was at the brink of anarchy.

It is when a group of concerned South African Christians and church leaders united together and reflected on the situation to determine what response by the Church and Christians would be appropriate. That was the birth of the Kairos document. They had a Kairos moment- The Moment of Truth is Now. We need that Kairos moment and reflect truthfully where we at. Going back to his text of the day, he shared the experiences of Act 1 and 2. A church not afraid to transform communities. He urged the congregation to copy the Acts Church. The promise in Act 1:8 stood out. He drew three points from the text. Promise of power- not dictatorial, not Manipulative. Promise of His Presence – Holy always present- Surely I will be with you Be His witnesses – Christ's reflection. Peter spoke with boldness. Continue to speak in the power of Christ. The TC challenged the congregation to be a church that does not compromise. Many people went forward when an appeal was made.

During the Sunday morning meeting, numerous women spoke cogently of their personal experience of God’s grace. His goodness was celebrated through brass band music, lively singing and timbrel displays.

Commissioner Silvia picked up the ‘Go and Tell’ theme in her Bible message, to encourage the women to each live and share their faith. She exhorted the women that their ‘lives must reflect the presence of God in their homes, corps and communities’.

Hundreds of women sought God during the altar call and many responded to the invitation to officership. Everybody present went away with the realisation that The Salvation Army in Southern Africa is well resourced with educated and committed women, ready to ‘Go and Tell’.

The reality came when I was Sunday of August……God is Good. alone in my 'new' home, reading a simple 'farewell brief' and going through my Corps Soldiers Roll and other books – these gave me a picture of what kind of Corps I was in, and at that time my Soldiers Roll indicated I had two enrolled senior soldiers and one School Ministry at Junior Soldiers enrolled junior soldier. Ukhanyo Primary School Enrollment

When I saw that brief, my Corps books and then had orientation with my Divisional Leaders, I had mixed emotions and I asked myself a lot of questions: 'why now, why did they send me here, etc…' but my Faith was in God alone, especially when He gave me His promise from Psalm 32:8 “I will guide you along the BEST PATHWAY “best Journey” for your life, I will advise you and watch over you.” Kids Club Bible Study In the first few days, God advised me to start with kid's ministry because through them I could win their friends, parents and other community people, and this was the beginning of my ministry.

I was given an opportunity to lead and share devotions during the assembly time at Ukhanyo Primary School. During this sharing, I invited the kids to come and visit my Sunday School.

Through a dedicated time of home visitations, a good relationship was built between myself and the kids, their parents, non-Christian and non- Salvationist' folk. Kids were given permission to come and worship at the Salvation Army by their families. A discipleship class for Junior Soldiers was started. An Outreach ministry started and more kids were led to Christ and Sunday School Class (after Sunday School Outreach some attend our meetings today. writing their Mother’s Day cards) (26 July 2015)

OCTOBER 2015 11 Y’Connection - Theme: Degeneration to Regeneration Eastern Cape Division

On the weekend of the 10th - 12th July 2015, young people in the Eastern Cape Division gathered at Ibhayi Corps for Y Connexion. The Theme Degeneration to Regeneration was unpacked from Friday night in the introduction, devotions right through to the final message on Sunday. Young people were given a platform to talk about issues causing degeneration among them and try to seek ways to overcome the confusion and loss of identity that seems to plague their generation. There were times of teambuilding. In the evening celebrations through our talents in song, dance and timbrel the goodness of God in our lives was done. We reflected back to previous year's Y Connexion where the winners and clashes of the choirs reminded us that the blood of Jesus that gives us strength daily will never loose its power. Sunday ended in a powerful testimony of a young person who stood up and spoke boldly about what it means to be born again from his own life experience. The final message taught us that regeneration brings about a change of heart and mind and that is what we should all pursue. We thank God for speaking into the lives of those who responded and have faith that he will continue to bring about positive change.

“It was the best Y Connection ever in years, says the youth of Mid KZN Division after attending the Y Connection Mid KZN Division which commenced on Friday through to Sunday held at the beautiful village of Magidigidi area, It was for the first time the Y Connection was conducted in this area which is characterized and known by its hills and valleys. The special guests for this important event were Captains Phelelani and Nokuthula Khathi, supported by divisional leaders and officers. Sessions were held with variety of subjects ranging from the Bible studies based on the following: Salvationists vs tradition; Positional Statements on Gays and Lesbians. The theme degeneration was emphasized and the youth felt that indeed they have lost moral values and that they need to find ways for moral regeneration, and they can find this by studying the word of God with devotion and prayer. Other subjects dealt with were amongst others: Sexual immorality (sex before marriage), smoking and drug abuse, use of alcohol. On Saturday evening the youth and officers sat around the fire. Here young people were motivated by listening to Candidate Zothani Ntuli from Bruntville corps as he shared his testimony on his experience of God's calling. The DDWM also spoke to the youth about some helpful hints. The youth from Bruntville corps presented an interesting drama around the fire. On Sunday, during the final meeting, Captain Phelelani read from Ezekiel 37: He spoke about the youth who are still living in darkness, and bound by chains of evil, drinking and smoking, yet encouraging them that they can find a new life in Christ Jesus. After a powerful message, many came forward to rededicate their lives to God. Joseph Baynes Children that were enrolled on 6 September 2015 at the Pietermaritzburg Corps Junior Soldier Promise ALL Memory Verses Girls: Jodi & Nandi (Ecc 5:4); After many weeks of going through the lessons, revision and writing a test to ensure the Belinda & Nonhlanhla (Rom 5:8) children were ready, Captain Michael Doubell enrolled 8 children from the Joseph Boys: Andile & Mohammed (Psalm 119:105); Baynes Child & Youth Care Centre. During the enrolment the children recited their Siphesande & Owami (Eph 6:11) Junior Soldier Promise to the congregation and they shared in groups the memory verses they had learned. I will continue to disciple them on Sunday mornings at the home. One of the four core values of the Circle of Courage, a model of youth empowerment, is “belonging”. When we admit children to our centres, they become part of our Salvation Army family and becoming Junior Soldiers ensures they belong not only to Joseph Baynes but to the family of Christ and The . No longer are they alone because they have been abandoned or orphaned. They belong and this means so much to them and to us. They wore their uniforms so proudly on Sunday. Our hope is that they will grow in their relationship with Christ and even when they leave our home, they will continue to worship at the Salvation Army. 12 THE WAR CRY Final Salute in Active Service Commissioners William and Thalitha Langa completed 35 years of active service, respectively, in the Southern Africa Territory.
