  • 2014 Cutthroat Blend Walla Walla Valley and Wahluke Slope AVA|120 Cases Produced
2014 Cutthroat Blend Walla Walla Valley and Wahluke Slope AVA|120 Cases Produced Vineyards Windrow Vineyard is the oldest commercially planted vineyard (1981) in the Walla Walla AVA. Talks to create the appellation happened on this soil. Situated on a bench created by thousands of years ago where Lower Dry Creek empties into the southern Walla Walla Valley, Windrow has a rare combination of heat during the day followed by a cool breeze flowing out of the Blue Mountains in the evenings. This diurnal shift allows us to grow our grapes until later in the season, increasing maturity while retaining enough acidity to maintain balance and structure. Ellisford Silt Loam is prevalent in this part of the Walla Walla Valley AVA. Windrow varies from deep deposits of windblown loess to shallow layers over gravelly cobble. Stone Tree Vineyard is 250 acres of wine grapes on the Wahluke Slope where most of the principle Bordeaux and Rhone red varieties are grown, as well as Zinfandel, Tempranillo, and Barbera. At an altitude of between 930 and 1250 above sea level on the south slope of Saddle Mountain, the vineyard has a commanding view of the Wahluke Slope AVA. This site has one of the longest growing seasons in Washington. Winemaker Notes Some may think it’s counter-intuitive to pair Malbec with a generous helping of Syrah but this blend garners a cult-like following every vintage. We aged this wine in French Oak for 18 months prior to bottling and released it in the spring of 2017. Tasting Notes 57% Malbec, 43% Syrah.

It’s the Place, Stupid! Volume 7, Issue 22 August 4, 2009 Papa Pinot’s Legacy Pervades 2009 IPNC “David Lett defined the term “visionary,” sailing against a strong current as he fulfilled the promise of Oregon wine. He planted grapes where others deemed it impossible, understanding that the very finest wines are often grown where it is most perilous, and he thrived on that challenge. His personality set the tone for the character of the Oregon wine industry, and his stunning wines rewarded his fearlessness, focus and independence. For those who prefer their opinions strong and their wines elegant, David was your man. What an inspiration.” Ted Farthing, Oregon Wine Board Executive Director, Oregon Wine Press, January 2009 Each July for the past twenty-four years, McMinnville, Oregon, has become Beaune in the USA. 700 Pinot geeks from all over the country and from every corner of the world descend on this inauspicious town to celebrate the fickle darling of wine cognoscenti and revel in their indulgence. The International Pinot Noir Celebration (IPNC) is held on the intimate and bucolic campus of Linfield College, but there is no homework or written tests, and no dreadful lectures at 8:00 in the morning, just an abundance of great Pinot Noir paired with the delicious bounty of Oregon prepared by the Pacific Northwest’s most talented chefs, and plenty of joie de vivre. This year’s IPNC, held on July 24-26, 2009, marked the twenty-third event, dating back to 1987, when a group of grape farmers and winemakers assembled to figure out a way to promote Oregon wine.

At 550 feet, Anderson Vineyard Oregon (Willamette Valley) faces northeast, which is atypical for Dundee. The soils in About: John Grochau was first introduced to wine and the this vineyard are thinner than most found in Dundee, winemaking landscape in his early 20’s, while racing resulting in more intensity but less of the jammy qualities bicycles for a French team in the Loire Valley. • 2018 Estate Vineyard, Sauvignon Blanc Ribbon Ridge AVA
2018 Estate Vineyard, Sauvignon Blanc Ribbon Ridge AVA Location: Ribbon Ridge is a sub-appellation of the Willamette Valley AVA that sits 22 miles southwest of Portland, 4 miles northwest of Dundee and 40 miles east of the Pacific Ocean. Ribbon Ridge is contained within the larger Chehalem Mountains AVA - which is contained with the Willamette Valley AVA. The appellation became official in 2005. Climate: Protected by geographical features to the north, south and west, Ribbon Ridge's grape- growing hillsides are slightly warmer and drier when compared to the adjacent valley floors. Ribbon Ridge's moderate climate is well suited for early grape growth in the spring, consistent and even ripening over the summer and a long, full maturing season in the fall. Soils: The Ribbon Ridge region contains primarily sedimentary soils that are younger, finer and more uniform than the alluvial sedimentary and volcanic soils of neighboring regions. These moderately deep, well-drained silty-clay loam soils are part of the Willakenzie soil series and are of low fertility and ideal for growing high-quality wine grapes. Topography: Geographically, Ribbon Ridge is a 3.5-mile long by 1.75-mile wide ridge that extends from the Chehalem Mountains. The ridge rises 683 feet from the Chehalem Valley floor, giving it an island-like appearance. Site Characteristics: This is the only vineyard in Ribbon Ridge with plantings of Sauvignon Blanc. Granted, there are only around 30 vineyards in the AVA and there is little Sauvignon Blanc planted in the entire Willamette Valley, however the sandy marine soils and slightly cooler nature of this appellation are perfect growing conditions for Sauvignon Blanc.

  • Ridgeline Vineyards
Ridgeline Vineyard In 2012, after several years of working with its coveted grapes, Decoy acquired the renowned Ridgeline Vineyard property, fulfilling a long-held dream of establishing an Estate program in the Alexander Valley and Sonoma County. The lush, structured Bordeaux-varietal fruit from this storied vineyard has become a central element in our Decoy Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and flagship Decoy Red, further enhancing the quality of our wines, and underscoring our belief in the importance of Estate vineyards. Located approximately 90 miles north of San Francisco, Ridgeline Vineyard is situated on Oak Mountain in the Alexander Valley AVA—Sonoma County’s finest appellation for growing Bordeaux grapes. The property consists of 44 unique hillside vineyard blocks, with different soils and elevations (up to nearly 2,000 feet). Though this spectacular mountain vineyard spans more than 400 acres, only 89 acres are under vine. The rest is preserved in its natural state, providing a stunning backdrop to the vine rows. Looming high above Alexander Valley at the north end of the Mayacamas mountain range, Ridgeline primarily consists of Cabernet Sauvignon and the other Bordeaux red grapes. Originally planted in 1999, the site benefits from an east-west exposure for maximum sunlight, and a north-south vertical axis for ideal drainage. Steep slopes further contribute to drainage, resulting in lower yields and concentrated flavors. These factors, and the site’s primarily Boomer and Sobrante loam soils, threaded with interlacing natural mineral springs, provide remarkable conditions for cultivating red grapes with phenomenal color, flavor and structure. Additionally, while summer daytime temperatures are hot enough to suit heat-loving red grapes, the rapid cooling effect of evening fog from the nearby Pacific Ocean preserves the fresh, enlivening acidity of the fruit as it ripens.
