WORSHIPWORSHIP FifthThird Sunday Sunday after of Pentecost Easter

Eleven o’clock July 14, 2019

Preparation for Worship Every time you close another door— be it the door of immediate satisfaction, the door of distracting entertainment, the door of busyness, the door of guilt and worry, or the door of self-rejection— you commit yourself to go deeper into your heart and thus deeper into the heart of God. This is a movement toward full incarnation. It leads you to become what you already are— a child of God; it lets you embody more and more the truth of your being. It makes you claim the God within you. ~ Henri J. M. Nouwen

Preparation for Ordination We Are Travelers on a Journey We are travelers on a journey, fellow pilgrims on the road; We are here to help each other walk the mile and bear the load. I will hold the Christ-light for you in the nighttime of your fear; I will hold my hand out to you, speak the peace you long to hear.

Sister, let me be your servant, let me be as Christ to you; Pray that I will have the grace to let you be my servant, too. Brother, let me be your servant, let me be as Christ to you; Pray that I will have the grace to let you be my servant, too.

Beth Newell Dennis Lambert (Life Deacon) Covenant Philip Hawkins Chair of the Diaconate

Leader: Brother and sister, every Christian is called to follow Jesus Christ serving God the Creator, through the power of the Holy Spirit. God now calls you to a special ministry of servanthood within the church. Do you believe that you are called by God and this Church to the ministry of a deacon? Deacons: I believe I am so called. Leader: Do you now, in the presence of God and the church, commit yourself to this trust and responsibility? Deacons: I do, with God’s help. Leader: Will you be faithful in prayer, in the reading and study of the Scriptures, in stewardship of spiritual and material goods, in the rendering of pastoral care, in seeking the will of God for the church, and in promoting the unity of Christ’s body? Deacons: I will, with God’s help. Leader: Will you do your best to pattern your life in accordance with the teachings of Christ so that you may be a wholesome example to all people? Deacons: I will, with God’s help. Leader: Will you in all things seek not your own glory but the glory of the Lord Christ? Deacons: I will, with God’s help. Leader: May the Lord uphold you with divine grace as you lead and serve among us. Deacons: Amen.
