Constituted as a Statutory Authority under the Airports Authority of India Act, 1994, AAI has been created by merging the erstwhile International Airports Authority of India and National Airports Authority. Under the Ministry of Civil Aviation, AAI is responsible for integrated development, expansion and modernisation of the air traffic services, passenger terminals, operational areas and cargo facilities at airports in India. Indore Airport has bagged the award for ‘Best Airport by Region’ among the airports handling under 2 million passengers per year in Asia-Pacific region. Ahmedabad Airport has been rated as the ‘Most Improved Airport’ in Asia-Pacific region. Indore and Ahmedabad airports are the two first time winners from India for 2017.
