Whitehouse ’18 Nursing Greenwich, NY Senior Class Officers Ann Ciancia ’18 President Cassidy Brown ’18 Vice President Ivan Iton ’18 Treasurer Jazmine Vasquez ’18 Secretary 9 Commencement Speaker Richard M. Jones, J.D. ’92 Richard Jones oversees worldwide tax planning and operations for CBS Corporation as the media company’s executive vice president and general tax counsel. A U.S. Army veteran, Mr. Jones is also CBS’s chief veteran officer, spearheading programs that provide support to the company’s veterans and their families. Mr. Jones majored in accounting at UC and received a master’s degree in business and J.D. from Syracuse University. He also holds an LL.M. (master of laws in taxation) from Boston University. He is very active with several veterans’ organizations, including Wounded Warrior Project, Syracuse University Institute for Veterans and Military Families, and the U.S. Department of Labor’s Advisory Committee on Veteran Employment, Training, and Employer Outreach. Honorary Degree Candidate Irwin Redlener, M.D. A pediatrician and public health activist for health care reform, Dr. Irwin Redlener is a recognized national leader in disaster planning, response, and recovery. He is the author of Americans at Risk: Why We Are Not Prepared for Megadisasters and What We Can Do Now. He earned acclaim in 1986, when he joined musician Paul Simon to raise money and awareness for children in Africa, as part of the “We are the World” campaign. Dr. Redlener is a 1964 graduate of Hofstra University and a 1969 graduate of the University of Miami School of Medicine. In 1979, he joined the Slocum-Dickson Medical Group and later opened his own practice in Utica. He was director of the Newborn Special Care Unit at St. Luke’s Memorial Hospital and director of the nursery at St. Elizabeth Hospital. He later was chief at pediatrics at St. Luke’s. He left Utica in 1986 to become medical director of USA For Africa. Today, Dr. Redlener is president and co-founder (with Simon) of Children’s Health Fund, director of the National Center for Disaster Preparedness at The Earth Institute at Columbia University, and Professor of Health Policy & Management and Professor of Pediatrics, Columbia University Medical Center. 10 UTICA COLLEGE THE CLASS OF 2018 Connor J.
