Vincent van Gogh was one of the great post-impressionist masters and, because of the Six van Gogh Cards and accessibility of his work and the tragedy and dedication of his life, he became a legend as an artist. He was born on March 30, in the Netherlands. The son of a Dutch parson, he was largely self-taught as an artist. Ascetic and intensely spiritual, he viewed art as almost a religious vocation. He painted incessantly and left a vast volume of work but sold only Six van Gogh Cards picture during his lifetime. Invan Gogh went to Arles in search of the glowing sunlight, there breaking from the somber, earthbound realism of his early style to the brilliant color, passionate thick brushstrokes, and incredible joyousness of his later style. Although he suffered a mental breakdown in his later Six van Gogh Cards, he still went on to paint masterpieces like Starry Night and Six van Gogh Cards Sower. On July 27, he is said to have shot himself. Many believe this was a suicide act, but others maintain it was accidental or that he was shot by neighboring kids with a "malfunctioning" gun. The gun was never found. His letters to his brother Theo are a moving and fascinating account of his working processes and the agony and drama of his daily life. Van Gogh was buried on July 30 in the municipal cemetery of Auvers-sur-Oise at a funeral attended by his brother, Theo van Gogh, who died six months later, on January 25, They are buried side by side. Van Gogh was born exactly one year after his parents' first son, also named Vincent, was stillborn. At a young age — with his name and birthdate already etched on his dead brother's headstone — van Gogh was melancholy. Theo van Gogh would later play an important role in his older brother's life as a confidant, Six van Gogh Cards and art dealer. At age 15, van Gogh's family was struggling financially, and he was forced to leave school and go to work. There, he fell in love with English culture. He visited art galleries in his spare time, and also became a fan of the writings of Charles Dickens and George Eliot. He also fell in love with his landlady's daughter, Eugenie Loyer. When she rejected his marriage proposal, van Gogh suffered a breakdown. He threw away all his books except for the Bible, and devoted his life to God. He became angry with people at work, telling customers not to buy the "worthless art," and was eventually fired. Van Gogh then taught in a Methodist boys' school, and also preached to the congregation. Although raised in a religious family, it wasn't until this time that he seriously began to consider devoting his life to the church. Hoping to become a minister, he prepared to take the entrance exam to the School of Theology in Amsterdam. After a year of studying diligently, he refused to take the Latin exams, calling Latin a "dead language" of poor people, and was subsequently Six van Gogh Cards entrance. The same thing happened at the Church of Belgium: In the winter ofvan Gogh volunteered to move to an impoverished coal mine in the south of Belgium, a place where preachers were usually sent as punishment. For the next six weeks, he lived a nomadic life, moving throughout the region while drawing and painting the landscape and its people. Van Gogh became influenced by Japanese art and began studying Eastern philosophy to enhance his art and Six van Gogh Cards. He dreamed of traveling there, but was told by Toulouse-Lautrec that the light in the village of Arles was just like the light in Japan. In Februaryvan Gogh boarded a train to the Six van Gogh Cards of France. He moved into a now-famous "yellow house" and spent his money on paint rather than food. Vincent van Gogh completed more than 2, works, consisting of oil paintings and more than 1, watercolors, drawings and sketches. A combination of imagination, memory, emotion and observation, the oil painting on canvas depicts an expressive swirling night sky and a sleeping village, with a large flame-like cypress, thought to represent the bridge between life and death, looming in the foreground. Van Gogh painted two series of sunflowers in Arles, France: four between August and September and one in January ; the versions and replicas are debated among art historians. The oil paintings on canvas, Six van Gogh Cards depict wilting yellow sunflowers in a vase, are now displayed at museums in London, Amsterdam, Tokyo, Munich and Philadelphia. Critics believe the painting was influenced by Japanese woodblock prints. French critic Octave Mirbeau, the painting's first owner and an early supporter of Van Gogh, remarked, "How well he has understood the exquisite nature of flowers! Over the course of 10 years, van Gogh created more than 43 self-portraits as both paintings and drawings. But it is not easy to paint yourself, either. Van Gogh's self-portraits are now displayed in museums around the world, including in Washington, D. In Decembervan Gogh was living on coffee, bread and absinthe in Arles, France, and he found himself feeling sick and strange. Before long, it became apparent that in addition to suffering from physical illness, his psychological health was declining. Around this time, he is known to have sipped on turpentine and eaten paint. Within a month, van Gogh and Six van Gogh Cards were arguing constantly, and one night, Gauguin walked out. Van Gogh followed him, and when Gauguin turned around, he saw van Gogh holding a Six van Gogh Cards in his hand. Hours later, van Gogh Six van Gogh Cards to the local brothel and paid for a prostitute named Rachel. With blood pouring from his hand, he offered her his ear, asking her to "keep this object carefully. Theo arrived on Christmas Day to see van Gogh, who was weak from blood loss and having violent seizures. The doctors assured Theo that his brother would live and would be taken good care of, and on January 7,van Gogh was released from the hospital. He Six van Gogh Cards, however, alone and depressed. For hope, he turned to painting and nature, but could not find peace and was hospitalized again. He would paint at the yellow house during the day and return to Six van Gogh Cards hospital at night. On May 8,he began painting in the hospital gardens. In Novemberhe was invited to exhibit his paintings in Brussels. He sent six paintings, including "Irises" and "Starry Night. Also around this time, Dr. Paul Gachet, who lived in Auvers, about 20 miles north of Paris, agreed to take van Gogh as his patient. Van Gogh moved to Auvers and rented a room. On July 27,Vincent van Gogh went out to paint in the morning carrying a loaded pistol and shot himself in the chest, but the bullet did not kill him. He was found bleeding in his room. Van Gogh was distraught about his future because, in May of that year, his brother Theo had visited and spoke to him about needing to be stricter with his finances.

Our museum is thus still a relative newcomer on the international scene. Nonetheless, in this fairly short period, the Van Gogh Museum has established itself as one of the liveliest institutions of its kind, with a growing reputation for its collections, exhibitions and research programmes. The past year has been marked by particular success: the Van Gogh and Gauguin exhibition attracted record numbers of visitors to its Amsterdam venue. And in this Journal we publish our latest acquisitions, including Manet's The jetty at Boulogne-sur-mer, the first important work by this artist to enter any Dutch public collection. By a happy coincidence, our 30th anniversary coincides with the 150th of the birth of Vincent van Gogh. As we approach this milestone it seemed to us a good moment to reflect on the current state of Van Gogh studies. For this issue of the Journal we asked a number of experts to look back on the most significant developments in Van Gogh research since the last major anniversary in 1990, the centenary of the artist's death. Our authors were asked to filter a mass of published material in differing areas, from exhibition publications to writings about fakes and forgeries. To complement this, we also invited a number of specialists to write a short piece on one picture from our collection, an exercise that is intended to evoke the variety and resourcefulness of current writing on Van Gogh.

    Press Release Van Gogh, Rousseau, Corot: In the Forest Forest-filled summer exhibition at the Van Gogh Museum from 7 July to 10 September Amsterdam, 6 July 2017 This summer the Van Gogh Museum is presenting lesser known paintings of woodland views and landscapes by Vincent van Gogh alongside works by French landscape painters such as Théodore Rousseau and Camille Corot in a show titled Van Gogh, Rousseau, Corot: In the Forest. This exhibition explores a neglected aspect of Van Gogh’s oeuvre and shows how his vision of nature was shaped in part by the artists of the School of Barbizon. These innovative painters depicted nature in the loose style characteristic of the landscapes they made in the Forest of Fontainebleau, near the village of Barbizon, just south of Paris. The exhibition Van Gogh, Rousseau, Corot: In the Forest presents 34 works from the Van Gogh Museum and The Mesdag Collection, as well as three exceptional loans: Sunset at Montmajour (the most recently discovered of Van Gogh’s paintings), Pollard Birch from the Van Lanschot Collection and a painting from a private collection, Windswept Trees near Loosduinen, on which Van Gogh’s fingerprints can be seen with the naked eye. Chapter 1 The Notion of a Software Language 1 JEAN-MARIE FAV R E. Abstract In this chapter, we characterize the notion of “software language” in a broad sense. We begin by setting out diverse examples of programming, modeling, and specification languages to cover a wide range of use cases of software lan- guages in software engineering. Then, we classify software languages along multi- ple dimensions and describe the lifecycle of software languages, with phases such as language definition and implementation. Finally, we identify areas in software en- gineering that involve software languages in different ways, for example, software reverse engineering and software re-engineering. 1 When the “Software Languages” community was formed around 2005–2007, Jean-Marie Favre was perhaps the key pillar and visionary and community engineer. X-ray, Infra-red, raking-light photographs, dendrochronological—or thread-count—diagrams, pigment analysis through Scanning Electron Microscopes and many other physical and chemical methods of dismemberment and analysis of the picture are used to determine the correct attribution. This is said to be done in conjunction with another measurement: traditional connoisseurship, which is just another art historical self-delusion. In reality, the technical investigation of art works has everything to say and connoisseurship nothing. No visual argument can be upheld against technical data, whereas the opposite happens all the time; technical data always, without exception, trumps connoisseurship. This is because the display of technical data is not in itself a visual form of knowledge, but visualized logical arguments. Examples of this feature are countless, but one of the best articulated attempts in this regard was the Vienna exhibition of Giorgione in 2004, “Giorgione.
