CLEVELAND (AP) — LeBron James walked slug- gishly down a corridor inside Quicken Loans Arena fol- lowing Game 7 surrounded by the usual squadron of security personnel, some business asso- ciates and his publicist. Each step seemed a chal- lenge. His eyes were heavy. He ached from head to toe. He wanted to lie down. James was moving on to the second round of the NBA play- offs — almost on his hands and knees. “I don’t think he’s appre- ciated enough for just how much energy he puts into every single game to do what he does,” Cavaliers forward Kyle Korver said of James. “It’s just unbelievable.” Pushed to his physical limits by the Indiana Pacers, and barely helped by Cleveland teammates until they fi nally showed up when it mattered most Sunday in a 105-101 win, C M James willed the Cavs into Y K the next round, where they’ll face the top-seeded Toronto Raptors for the third straight postseason. If the Indiana series was any indication, James might have to do it again. James scored 45 points — his third game over 40 in the series — and the 33-year-old added nine rebounds and seven assists in 43 exhausting min- utes as the Cavs closed out the Pacers, a team they swept in the fi rst round a year ago. James, who improved to 13-0 in the fi rst round, would have played all 48, but he succumbed to leg cramps in the third quarter and had to go to the locker room for treatment and fl uids. Russia’s doping suspension from international track and fi eld could be extended as top athletes face accusations they continued to work with a banned coach. Russia was suspended from international competition in 2015 for widespread doping and had been nearing reinstatement. The 24-year-old infi elder had been bothered by a sore elbow since the middle of last season but had tried to deal with the problem with rest and reha- bilitation rather than surgery. Seager spoke to reporters in the dugout before the Dodgers played NL West rival Arizona on Monday night. He said he felt pain and numbness after a couple of throws in the recently com- pleted series at San Francisco. “I had a few bad throws over the weekend and went and got an MRI this morning and it was necessary to have surgery,” he said. There was no doubt surgery was needed, Seager said, calling it “cut and dried.” He said he was at peace with the decision after dealing with the arm problem for so long. “You always think if the day would come,” Seager said. “You always hope it doesn’t come. I’ve kind of accepted it now. It’s just nice to know it’s fi nished. It’s done with. V“It wasn’t the right step to just go ahead and do it. It was still in that kind of middle ground where the fi rst step should have been rehab and see if you could take some time off and it would be all right.” The new MRI, he said, showed the injury had gotten “much, much worse.” Seager was hitting .267 with two homers and 13 RBIs. I’m only 34. That’s what I keep repeating to myself -- I’m only 34. I feel lost. I’m mad at God and have lost my faith. I keep won- dering “Why me?” “Why my family AGAIN?” “Why stage 4?” I cry alone in an empty house because I don’t want to stress out my kids and my husband. The support groups are 30 minutes away and feature mostly breast cancer patients and survivors. I’m a nurse, and I feel out of control. All my decisions are being made when I’m unconscious or barely out of anesthesia. My world has been turned upside down. I’m not hanging on well at all. Because my control is slipping, I have lost my grasp on the person I once was. I was a strong woman. I don’t know what to do. Help! -- NURSE WHO IS NOW THE PATIENT DEAR NURSE: Right now you are feeling vulnerable, which, under the circumstances, is normal. You should not be crying alone or isolating yourself as you have been doing. You need more emo- tional support than the support group you belong to can give. It may help you to contact the American Cancer Society because it provides support and informa- tion 24 hours a day, 365 days a year to those facing cancer. Trained cancer specialists are available via phone or live chat and can off er you not only accurate, up-to-date information, but also connect you with valuable services and resources. The phone number to call is (800) 227-2345, and the web- site is cancer.org. Please don’t wait to reach out. My thoughts are with you. DEAR ABBY: My in-laws take frequent vacations and ask my husband to dog-sit. He always says yes. They are gone seven to 10 days at a time and I don’t think we should feel obligated to always ATTENTION! agree. My husband says that since we’re family it’s our duty. Abby, they can well aff ord to kennel their dogs, and I don’t think they’d be off ended if we said no. But my husband thinks I’m heartless for being OK with his parents’ dogs staying at a kennel for so long. I maintain that it’s not my problem. This disagreement comes up every two to three months (every time we have the dogs). I am not We are now raising the price willing to do this anymore. I’m not sure how to discuss this topic because, so far, nothing I have said has gotten me results. We already have dogs of our own, and kids as well, and the additional dogs disrupt our routine. -- FREE PET SITTER for old Newpaper bundles to vv For your in-laws to expect you to take care of their dogs every time they decide to leave town seems excessive. However, I can understand why they would prefer not to kennel the dogs if they can leave them in a home environment instead. $2 a bundle! Because it bothers you, rather than try to dissuade your husband from being so agreeable, tell him he can dog-sit at his parents’ house, or from the moment the dogs arrive they will be his sole responsibility. And then stick to it. samoa news, Tuesday, May 1, 2018 Page B15
