The road to Milford Sound is spectacular and for those MILFORD self-driving on a more leisurely itinerary, you may wish SOUND to experience the following stops and short walks. Hollyford 1 Te Anau Downs Mitre Peak Track This sheltered harbour is the departure point for Milford Track walkers. Sandfly Point MILFORD 2 Mirror Lakes Small tarns situated roadside, famous for their mountain reflections in 12 109kms Routeburn calm weather. 8 11 Track Milford 101kms 3 Knobs Flat 10 Track 7 Provides visitor amenities including interpretation displays, toilets, 5 campervan sewage disposal and telephone (card only). 9 85kms 6 4 Lake Gunn Nature Walk Caples Track This loop track starts at the Cascade Creek carpark and takes you 4 through red beech forest to the shores of Lake Gunn. Track 5 3 The Divide 63kms Toilets This is the lowest east-west pass in the Southern Alps (531m) and it marks the start of the Routeburn, Caples and Greenstone Tracks. It takes you 1 through native forest, then over open ground with alpine tarns, shrub land 29kms
and bogs. The Key Summit viewpoint provides spectacular views of the Hollyford, Greenstone and Eglinton Valleys (3hrs return). v 7 Lower Hollyford Road The Hollyford Road turn-off leads to the Lake Marion Walking Track, Te Anau Gunns Camp, Humboldt Waterfall and Hollyford Track.
