Sea, mountains and shopping aboard a vintage car Time requested: half or 1 day A one-day or half-day itinerary, the discovery of the coast and the first hinterland to the west of Savona. Starting from Savona, take the SS1 Aurelia in the direction of the west crossing the coast towns of Spotorno, Finale Ligure, Pietra Ligure and Loano. Photo: view from SS1 Aurelia Photo: Loano Overlooking Loano, let's decide whether to continue along the coast (recommended for half a day) to Ceriale, Albenga and then Alassio, famous for the shopping "budello", the Muretto and the fine sandy beaches or if you deviate from the Riviera in Toirano direction. (Recommended for the whole day) Photo: Alassio Once in Toirano, it is worth a visit to the "Toirano Caves", a complex of karst cavities, known for the variety of stalactites and stalagmites, for their extension, to find traces of "Homo Sapiens Sapiens" Of over 12,000 years ago and remains of Ursus Spelaeus of about 25,000 years old. In the Toirano caves there are imprints of prehistoric men and beard bones who took refuge to escape the last glaciation dating to 30,000 years ago. Photo: Toirano Caves After the visit to the caves, Toirano gives us a last sense of excitement: take the SP1 in the direction of Bardineto, a fantastic road all to drive with the wind in the hair, which with breathtaking views will bring us quickly to the 801m slm of Toogo yoke, A passage of the Ligurian Alps between the Padana basin rich of beech and the basin of the Ligurian sea, warmer and arid. Bees, pines, birches and fir trees accompany us on a plateau with a typical mountain flavor and we believe we have abandoned the sea from so few kilometers. Photo: Bardineto Plateau In Bardineto a stop is a must. First to visit the "mushroom houses" and then to enjoy the typical mushroom-based cuisine, fresh local cheesecake and game cheeses. Photo: Case Mushroom Our journey now proceeds from Bardineto again towards the sea (Albenga), on the SP52, via the "Scravaion" hill (814m s.l.m.) The trail winds up to the hill in a narrow valley of fir trees and then opens towards the sea following the winding shapes of the Ligurian Alps crossing the Castelvecchio, Erli and Zuccarello, to reach the vast Albenga plain. Art. 3) TRAIL RUN The race can be run at any pace and is set in a natural environment, along paths on the surrounding hills and mountains in the 12 districts involved forming a large open loop that starts and finishes in Loano. Each race has only one stage and can be run at any pace within a time limit.

Balestrino – Castelvecchio Di Rocca Barbena
BALESTRINO – CASTELVECCHIO DI ROCCA BARBENA – ZUCCARELLO (BY CAR) This day-excursion takes you inland to picturesque remote villages and hamlets of Liguria, driving along a part of the old Via Del Sale, the ancient route, which twists and turns among Piedmont, France and Liguria, where tradesmen once used to carry salt from the coast to the hinterland. Drive down to BORGIO and then in the direction of VENTIMIGLIA, pass PIETRA L., LOANO and when you get to BORGHETTO, turn right following the direction for TOIRANO. After passing TOIRANO, take a narrow road on your left following the road signs for BALESTRINO and drive for 5 kms. On top of a hill, surmounted by a big castle, you have BALESTRINO, which is the first recommended stop. There is not much to see, apart from the ruins of an earthquake which took place in 1964 and forced inhabitants to abandon the place. Today, it looks like a “ghost village”. In 2015, the reconstruction should have started but works never began and most buildings still look as they were after the quake. After passing the village, from the main road, you have a beautiful view to take pictures. You drive for 25 minutes (about 12 km.) on a winding road and you arrive in CASTELVECCHIO DI ROCCA BARBENA. Leave your car at the parking space on the hairpin turn, before getting into the village, which is only pedestrian. Since it might be lunch time, we recommend “AGRITURISMO ANTICO MELO – www.anticomelo.it” which has an amazing view over the village and the 11th century castle (ask for a table on the terrace).

Eh sì, chissà quanti bambini lo hanno gridato bloccando un pallone sulla spiaggia e quanti hanno deciso di intraprendere l’avventura da portiere post Euro 2020. Dopo le Olimpiadi, per fortuna anche gli altri sport potranno contare sull’effetto emulazione. “Chi arriva prima al muretto vince!”. Pronti, partenza e via alla fantasia di essere un piccolo Jacobs o una Bogliolo alle prime armi. Se poi i due atleti in questione sono anche legati a doppio filo con il territorio allora l’occasione per cercare di dare un impulso ancora più forte alle discipline dell’atletica leggera è ancora più ghiotta. Un’opportunità che molti amministratori locali sembrano intenzionati a non volersi far scappare. Ecco quindi l’intenzione di valorizzare gli impianti autoctoni, facilitando così il lavoro delle società che vi operano. La politica locale del ponente savonese pare intenzionata a cogliere l’occasione. “Chiusa entusiasticamente la parentesi olimpica, come spesso accade dopo eventi di prima grandezza, saranno molti i giovani che vorranno emulare in pista le gesta dei nostri atleti”, inizia così il post del consigliere di minoranza di Finale Ligure Massimo Gualberti. Catasto Grotte Liguria
DELEGAZIONE SPLELEOLOGICA LIGURE A cura di: Roberto Chiesa Il territorio ligure è costituito per il 7% da rocce carbonatiche (calcari, calcari marnosi, dolomie e flysch). Le grotte si sviluppano prevalentemente nei calcari Triassici. Le Acque Carsiche Grotta della Giara – Toirano (R. Chiesa) Le sorgenti carsiche liguri, molte ma di modesta portata, costituiscono un’importante risorsa idrica per la Liguria, e in buona parte sono captate per scopi idro-potabili da piccoli acquedotti che riforniscono singoli paesi. In Liguria vi sono alcune sorgenti sottomarine. Salvo rari ed isolati casi non vi sono sorgenti compromesse da inquinamento. Le Sorgenti delle Dotte (SV) sono le maggiori della Liguria con circa 150 l/s I maggiori sistemi idrocarsici sono nel savonese (Buranco di Bardineto – Balbiseolo – Buranco Rampiun, e Pollera – Buio) e nell’imperiese (Grotta dei Rugli).
