However, this is also a place where you can relax, read a newspaper or con- verse with other course participants. This makes learning German even more fun. Our media resource centers have four zones: LEARNING ZONE The Learning Zone is intended for quiet study. Here you can work by yourself and focus on your learning goals. There are also com- puters for looking up information or searching for extra materials. COMMUNICATION ZONE This zone is intended for communicative activities. It is ideal for discussions, group work, practicing with learning partners, and other shared learning activities. INFORMATION ZONE For help using the media resource center, details about activities at the institute, or information about the culture and leisure programs, the Information Zone is the place to go. The Mannheim Palace is one of the iconic buildings in Mannheim, apart from Wasserturm and Mannheim Hauptbahnhof. It was in Baroque style and originally the main residence of the Prince-electors of the Electorate of the Palatinate of the House of Wittelsbach. It is one of the reasons why I chose Mannheim. Part of the building is the campus of Universität Mannheim, including classrooms and a library. Yes, I can STUDY in a PALACE! Another part of the palace is a museum. Der Neckar near Hafenstrasse Page 2 EXCHANGE REPORT Monthly Activity Log SEPTEMBER Schlossfest Apart from the welcome party, one of the unforgettable activities was the Schlossfest. I visited the museum of Mannheim palace for free, went to the roof of the palace and watched firework and music performance. Of course, I tried the Eichbaum beer produced in Mannheim and met some German friends. Heidelberg The way I spent my free time in September was to travel in places nearby. The semester ticket for students covered the places such as Heidelberg, Speyer, Schwetzingen and Wertheim. The S-bahn train S1 goes along the beautiful and meandering Neckar River from Heidelberg to Osterburken.

Anglican Church Freiburg - A brief history The Anglican Church (ACF) in Freiburg was founded in the 19th century when many British military personnel retired to this region. The community built a red sandstone, very British looking, church, named St. George and St. Boniface, in the Wiehre, a wealthy area of the town. The foundation stone was laid in 1894 by the Grand Duke and Duchess of Baden in the presence of the American Consul. With the outbreak of World War I the community was no longer able to maintain the building and it was sold to the town of Freiburg in the 1920’s. A former member of our congregation, Sheila Scheer-Cockbaine, who came to Germany after World War II, - 4 - (All pictures for internal use only!) was instrumental in reviving the Anglican Church in Freiburg. At that time the church met on a monthly basis supported by the permanent chaplain in Basel.

    Der Ausbau unserer Rheintalbahn hat das ganze Jahr Saison. Karlsruhe–Offenburg–Freiburg (Breisgau)–Basel Fahrplanänderungen im Baujahr 2021 Auch im Jahr 2021 setzt die Deutsche Bahn ihre Bauaktivitäten mit Hochdruck fort. Allein in Baden- Württemberg investieren wir in diesem Jahr rund zwei Milliarden Euro in die Infrastruktur. Neben der Instandhaltung und Modernisierung von Gleisen, Weichen und Brücken, der Signal- und Sicherungs- technik sowie von zahlreichen Bahnhöfen und Haltepunkten steht auch die Aus- und Neubaustrecke Karlsruhe–Basel weiterhin im Mittelpunkt. Auf dem Bauplan stehen unter anderem Oberleitungsarbeiten in den Abschnitten Karlsruhe–Abzweig Bashaide und Niederbühl–Rastatt Süd, der Anschluss der Neubaustrecke an die bestehende Rheintal- bahn sowie Gleis- und Brückenarbeiten bei Müllheim (Baden), Auggen, Haltingen Nord und Weil am Rhein. Unsere Ausbauarbeiten führen wir weitgehend unter Aufrechterhaltung des Zugverkehrs aus. Kurz- zeitige Sperrungen von Gleisen bzw. ganzer Abschnitte, insbesondere zwischen Freiburg und Basel, lassen sich jedoch nicht vermeiden.
