THE CITY COUNCIL (EAST CITY WAY PHASE1) (LONDON DRIVE TO DALDOWIE ROAD) ORDER 202_

Report

Glasgow City Council are currently implementing “City Ways” which are routes that radiate from the city centre. These key corridors link into the wider network and are characterised by features such as pedestrian spaces and segregated cycle lanes. With business, cultural, educational and residential destinations in close proximity, the routes provide greater access to all aspects of our city.

The Council proposes to provide a segregated cycle route on the south side of London Road and Hamilton Road between London Drive and Daldowie Road. This Order covers the first phase of the Works and it is intended future phases will provide a safe and attractive walking and cycling route from the boundary with North to . Cycle infrastructure has been implemented east of Daldowie Road and from to Glasgow Green.

This first phase will upgrade the existing Mount Vernon junction signals to provide pedestrian crossing on each arm. New signals will be provided at London Drive to provide linkage from the existing London Road to the cycle route and provide a new pedestrian crossing. The next phase which will be consulted upon after completion of this phase will extend the route west on London Road to Avenue.

A cycle phase will be added to the existing signalised junction of Hamilton Road and Daldowie Road to link to the existing cycle lanes east of Daldowie Road.

This scheme aims to provide a safe and attractive route to encourage walking and cycling to encourage healthy travel options with the associated environmental and health benefits for Glasgow’s future.

A separate traffic regulation order consultation to reduce the speed limit from 40mph to 30mph on London Road and Hamilton Road will be undertaken simultaneously with this order.
