Stay well, Provincetown, and wash your hands! NEW PROVINCETOWN MASK ORDER Information provided by Town of Provincetown

Individuals are required to wear a mask or other cloth face covering over the nose and mouth 24 hours a day, 7 days a week when along the public way on Commercial Street from Bangs Street to Franklin Street and including the public ways within the Town’s Commercial Center Zoning District.

MacMillan Pier: The main pier, public way, boardwalks, and excursion floats are now a part of the mandatory mask wearing zone. The fishing fleet areas consisting of the floating dock marina and the two fixed fingers docks are excluded. Compliance has been successful. This order does not apply to children under the age of 2 or any person who is unable to wear a mask or face covering due to a medical condition or is otherwise exempted by the Department of Public Health guidance. Persons not able to wear a mask due to a medical condition are not required to produce documentation of the condition. This Order is intended to supplement the requirements of the Governor’s mask order, which continues to remain in place, which requires everyone to wear a mask when they are unable to maintain a social distance of 6 feet from every other person.

I have attached the Commercial Center Zoning District designation, please note that the mask order extends further into the West End and East End than the district but it clearly shows the area of Bradford Street that is also included under the Order. Weekly COVID-19 Provincetown Recap from Health Director Morgan Clark

MacMillan Pier: The main pier, public way, boardwalks, and excursion floats are now a part of the mandatory mask wearing zone. The fishing fleet areas consisting of the floating dock marina and the two fixed fingers docks are excluded. Compliance has been successful.

Recreation Department: As of July 17, 2020, the Chelsea Earnest and Mildred Greensfelder playgrounds and courts are reopened. Masks are required when social distancing cannot be maintained, hand sanitizer is available, and no more than 25 people are permitting to use the playground or court at once. You can check the status of playground and courts daily on Recreation Department Facebook page.

Community Ambassador Program: The program is based at Firehouse #3 on Commercial Street near Town Hall. Ambassadors are on duty from 11:00am until 9:00pm daily. During the July 16th weekend, two Boston-based Sisters of the Perpetual Indulgence volunteered as guest ambassadors. They were a great help to the program and well received by the public. As of Thursday, July 23rd, ambassadors have distributed approximately 2000 masks while monitoring the mandatory mask zone; an additional 500 masks were handed to visitors at the Firehouse.

Mandatory Mask Zone Updates: The Town has more than doubled its signs for the mandatory mask zone and on side streets entering the zone. Additional banners will be up in the near future.

The plant species is unknown and could be invasive, which could pose a threat to agriculture or the environment. If you receive or have received an unsolicited package of seeds: Do not plant the seeds Complete this form to provide information to the Massachusetts Department of Agricultural Resources (MDAR) who will communicate with the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Hold on to the seeds and and all packaging, including the mailing label Wait for instructions from USDA or MDAR regarding the collection or disposal of the seeds Pilgrim Monument and Provincetown Museum to open Saturday, August 1st, 2020 Most Popular Upcoming Events The Pilgrim Monument and Provincetown Museum (PMPM), in accordance with the Massachusetts Reopening Plan’s Phase Three Guidelines, will open its doors for the 2020 season on Saturday, Aug. 1, according to a press release. To maintain visitor and staff safety, PMPM has adapted health and safety protocols including limited capacity, revised ticket purchase and booking procedures, face covering requirements and updated or amended exhibitions.

The Pilgrim Monument and its grounds will remain closed, due to the construction of the Bradford Access Project - an inclined elevator designed to improve accessibility for all visitors to the PMPM grounds. This project supports the organization’s mission of advancing inclusion and welcoming all. In commemoration of the past 400 years of Provincetown’s history, PMPM will debut a new permanent exhibit, “Our Story: The Early Days of the Wampanoag Tribe and the Pilgrims Who Followed.” Curated by Paula and Steven Peters of SmokeSygnals, the interactive and technological exhibit offers an accurate story of the Wampanoag Tribe’s history on Cape Cod, including the 1620 arrival of the Mayflower from England. PMPM will implement new procedures and policies for the safety of visitors and staff, following the health and safety requirements and recommendations of the Town of Provincetown, Commonwealth of Massachusetts and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). These procedures and policies include: Museum hours and ticketing: The museum will be open from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday to Sunday. The last admission time slot will be 3:10 p.m. Tickets for designated times can be purchased online through the PMPM website. Tickets cost $17 for adults, $13 for seniors and teens, and $7 for children ages 4-12. Children younger than 4 are free. All tickets must be purchased with a credit card. Personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements: Museum staff and any visitors 2-years-old and older will be required to wear face coverings that cover their mouth and nose at all times while inside the museum. Masks will be available for purchase onsite. Capacity and distancing: Gallery capacity is controlled and restrooms have occupancy limits. Patrons will be asked to follow the markers and move through the museum in a single direction, as well as remain six feet away from other guests. Guided tours, events and other public programs are temporarily suspended. Enhanced cleaning: Museum staff will be regularly cleaning and sanitizing all areas of the museum, including the exhibit halls, gift shop and restrooms. Sanitizing wipes and hand sanitizer dispensers will be available throughout the museum. PMPM will offer virtual programs during the first phase of opening to the public, including its Chamber Music for the Outer Cape performances, and an upcoming virtual gala. PMPM is actively monitoring evolving city and state guidelines and striving to exceed those recommendations so visitors can return knowing the priority is for everyone to have a safe and educational experience. With many restaurants still relying on take-out service, environmentally-minded residents are concerned about the increase in plastic waste that has resulted from adjustments made due to the COVID virus.

A new “Compostable Food Serviceware Buying Guide” aims to provide restaurants and other food service businesses alternatives to plastic take-out containers and serviceware, like cups, plates, bowls and utensils. The guide was released by CARE for the Cape & Islands and created in collaboration with the Wellfleet Recycling Committee and Woods Hole Sea Grant.

“We’re really pleased to make this new guide available,” said Jill Talladay, director of CARE for the Cape & the Islands. “Providing businesses and citizens more environmentally options is an important part of our mission to preserve and protect the beauty of Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket.”

Reusable serviceware is the most sustainable option when serving food in a restaurant or at nearby seating. “But when that’s not possible, we wanted to encourage restaurants and other food service businesses to use non-plastic disposable food serviceware – products that are compostable,” said Christine Shreves, a member of the Wellfleet Recycling Committee and one of guide’s primary creators. “In the guide, we provide a few examples of compostable cold & hot cups, soup containers, plates, food trays/boats, to-go food containers, food/deli wrap, cutlery, and straws, and we hope to be able to expand upon this list.”

The guide grew out of an on-going series of summits CARE for the Cape & Islands hosted, along with the Center for Coastal Studies and Cape Cod Anti-Litter Coalition, aimed at decreasing pollution, particularly plastic, in our environment. Local Chambers of Commerce, NGOs, businesses and government agencies working collaboratively formed five working groups to focus on key issues between summit meetings. The Cooperative Purchasing Working Group formed to assist businesses by identifying environmentally-friendly products and provide information on where they may be purchased.

“We’re hoping to establish cooperative purchasing as a means to reduce costs for local businesses by facilitating bulk purchasing of these products,” said Stephanie Murphy with Woods Hole Sea Grant and another of the guide’s creators. “This buying guide is the first step toward that goal.”

The new Compostable Food Serviceware Buying Guide is available for free download on the CARE for the Cape and the Islands website at https://careforthecapeandislands.org/plastic-waste-reduction/.

Rangers are on Duty at Seashore Visitor Centers

While the seashore’s visitor center buildings remain closed, rangers are providing information services outdoors on the grounds of the Salt Pond and Province Lands visitor centers. From mid-morning to late afternoon each day, weather permitting, rangers are offering orientation talks, question and answer sessions, maps, brochures, and junior ranger booklets and awards. Specific hours will be determined once visitation patterns become clear. The America’s National Parks store at Salt Pond Visitor Center is open Thursdays through Mondays, mid-morning to late afternoon.

The Atlantic White Shark Conservancy the Center for Coastal Studies are collaborating with the national seashore to offer pop-up information stations at several beaches this summer. Staff and interns from these organizations are sharing information about the marine environment, sharks, seals, and whales. Visit the organizations’ websites for more information

Visitors are reminded to maintain social distance of at least six feet; to wear a mask where social distancing cannot be maintained; and to practice good hygiene, including frequent hand washing.

· Bathroom facilities are available at all beaches. They will be sanitized on a regular basis.

Herring Cove and Head of the Meadow Beaches will not be staffed with lifeguards this summer. · All other national seashore beaches will have lifeguards through Labor Day. They are: Coast Guard Beach & Nauset Light Bch, Eastham, Marconi Bch, Wellfleet, & Race Point Bch, Provincetown. · Fees will be collected at the four lifeguarded beaches and at the Herring Cove entrance gate. · There will be no fees collected at Head of the Meadow Beach this summer. Visitors are advised to read and heed all safety advisories posted at the beaches.

Help Promote Ocean Safety Awareness The public needs to understand that with coastline topography changes and sharks and seals in the ocean, any level of activity in the ocean, whether wading, swimming or surfing will pose a different degree of risk. Everyone going into the ocean should exercise caution and be willing to assume the level of risk associated with their behavior prior to entering the water. Modifying human behavior is the most effective form of ocean safety. It is illegal to feed wildlife in National Parks. Animals that are fed often lose their fear of people, becoming unpredictable and aggressive in attempts to gain food. This can lead to serious injury to people and destruction of the wild animal. There is enough natural food to support wildlife in the national seashore; feeding is unnecessary and harmful. The public is reminded to remain distant from wild animals; to keep children close and pets leashed; and to not feed or leave food out for wildlife. Rangers will continue to cite offenders.

"Still Woman Run Deep," In-Gallery exhibition opening Friday, July 24, 7 to 9pm end date August 6th.

"Still Woman Run Deep," will explore the meaningful depths collection of simple, unassuming objects can reach through their selection and arrangement. "This is the genre at its best. It features exquisite work, masterfully executed," Owner, Gallery Curator Steve Bowersock says. "This collection of 'things' tell stories, direct the mind to deeper ideas, or give a restful place for a mind to linger." Exhibiting artists are Noriko Fox, Sydney Bella Sparrow, Julie Beck, Terry Rafferty, Natalie Featherstone, Loren Pugh, and Brittany Haynes. "The still life genre reaches back into antiquity, with its popularity rising in the 16th century. That's also when it began to be used as a means to convey symbolization, hinting at religious, political, and still later psychological concepts," Bowersock says. "There is a beauty we tend to overlook in everyday goods, from something as simple as who came up with the idea and design for an item, how perfectly functional it is - or not - and even how appealing its form can be." "This show will encompass the history of still life; the pursuit of beauty, and objects for the sake of something greater." "There is nothing stodgy or static about this collection. This is still life in the hands of the accomplished contemporary artist who can't help but speak to something beyond that which sits before them," Bowersock says. "This exhibit is still life's legacy."

"Two Winners ... and a Standout," the latest Bowersock Gallery exhibit will feature Brian Dinicola and Debbie Korbel, both artists who took high honors in the 2019 Modern Man show, and Kevin Kusiolek, a new stable member.

The show launches with a two-in-one open: a live-stream event with artist interviews, from 5;30 p.m. to 6 p.m., and a live/in-gallery social distancing opening, at 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., on Aug. 7, The show runs through Aug. 19. and a live/in-gallery social distancing opening, at 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., on Aug. 7, The show runs through Aug. 19. "What a great varied combination of work this exhibit presents. I'm excited to bring back Brian, and Debbie, who took best in show at last year's inaugural Modern Male exhibit," Curator Steve Bowersock says. "We've added Kevin to the mix to put a spotlight on his work. We pursued and signed Kevin only last year. This is the first time he's being featured and we're really excited for people to get a look at this impressive work"Two Winners ... and a Standout," will feature oil painting and sculpture, and between the three artists offer figurative, animal, all manner of "scapes." There's the comical, moody, and narrative.

Works by the Bowersock's entire stable are on display, including glass, mixed media, bronze and mache sculpture and paintings in numerous media. Genres include realism, photorealism, contemporary, tonal, expressionism, abstract, surreal, and narrative. $10 REGISTER

We’ve officially entered into the third month of construction for the Bradford Access Project (BAP) – an inclined elevator designed to link the town of Provincetown and the Pilgrim Monument. The trees of the High Pole Hill are cleared, the way finding and Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) accessibility planning has begun, and we’ve started to lay the concrete foundation for the elevator’s structure. Words cannot express our gratitude for our generous supporters. The BAP's legacy and value will live long after its completion. Our best aOended virtual event so far, I’m thrilled to announce our next big online gathering: the annual Provincetown American Playwright Award -- honoring this year’s recipient, the trailblazing gender-bending legend that is Mr. Charles Busch! Mr. Busch is the theatrical mastermind behind such smash hits as The Divine Sister, Psycho Beach Party, The Tale of the Allergist’s Wife, Die, Mommie, Die!, and the longest-running comedy in off-Broadway history, Vampire Lesbians of Sodom. Tune in on Saturday, August 15 at 5:30pm as we stream the 2020 PAPA on provincetowntheater.org (via our YouTube channel). Like all of our online offerings, the event will be free-of-charge.

As the PAPA is traditionally our most significant yearly fundraiser, this year we’ve got a fun new way where everyone can As the PAPA is traditionally our most significant yearly fundraiser, this year we’ve got a fun new way where everyone can join in -- and, hopefully, toss whatever they can into the hat!

In a very special program, here’s what’s up...

Once again the PAPA will be hosted by our gracious supporters Ken Fulk and Kurt Wootton. In the past, seating was limited to sixty. But this summer, we’re expanding the PAPA into a coast-to-coast virtual “House Party”!

To join in toasting Charles, we’re inviting our friends, fans, sponsors and subscribers to host your very own PAPA party! Whether it’s cocktail for two, a pizza party for three, or a 5-course filet mignon supper for your court at the palace, our goal is to celebrate safely together because we know that, no matter where you’re currently sheltered, Provincetown is home in your heart.

As for the half-hour show, not only will you see Charles accept his PAPA, but also enjoy a slew celebrity congratulations -- , Taylor Mac, Jinkx Monsoon, Michelle Lee, , and more. Additionally, we’re very excited to announce the expansion of our mission to develop playwriting in Provincetown, the birthplace of modern American Theater.

Inaugurating our new Stephen Mindich Literary Project, we’re honored to announce our collaboration with the Provincetown Arts Society to house the Paula Vogel Playwright Residency program at Ken Fulk’s newly restored Mary Heaton Vorse House. To take a peek at where our resident playwright will work while visiting P’town, we’ll be giving a virtual tour through this iconic residence where the Provincetown Players was born. So, gather your guests on Saturday, August 15 and join our new PAPA winner Charles Busch for a one-in-a-lifetime celebration of Provincetown’s theatrical past, present and future!

Castle Hill Pivots with Creativity On-Line & Now launching On-Campus Workshops in August

The Truro Center for the Arts at Castle Hill has thought long and hard about opening up for workshops during the month of August. After long discussions with the Castle Hill Board and staff, while also surveying students and people in the community, we created a re- opening plan with protocols aligned with the state mandates. The Castle Hill staff has put safety #1 priority in place and are ready to move forward, slowly and cautiously as we will be focusing on workshop outdoors no more than 2-3 a week. We will not allow students to participate if they come from one of the states that are currently spiking (unless they have had a 2 week quarantine). We are excited to announce 12 on-campus or in person workshops for the month of August (see below). With social distancing & masks will be required. Castle Hill is lucky to have a beautiful meadow at Edgewood Farm in Truro, where people can spread out in the beautiful landscape & paint or work on ceramics on the back deck or firings in our Raku or Salt Kiln at the main campus. Castle Hill has pivoted to mostly an on-line format through Zoom. In a very quick turn around we launched the first 30 workshops during June & July and August.

Still Time to Sign Up August Workshops include Carving Soapstone with Anna Poor, Intro to Photoshop with Jesse Freidan, Egg Tempera with Patricia Miranda, Making a video (for an artist) with Roberto Mighty, Push and Pull with Laura Shabott, Color and Light with Nancy McCarthy, Printmaking with Dorothy Cochran, and Nickolas Danielson – hand building in ceramics with Tar Paper Templates! Really something for everyone! We are also launching a new Art for Kids program that will take place on Mondays from 2:00 – 3:30 on Zoom with artist Emma-Kate Metsker starting in mid July. Watch for details! One will be able to take one workshop or all of them at a discounted rate! For information on workshops go to www.castlehill.org or if you have any questions, please call the office at 508-349-7511

2020 is the 400th Anniversary of the First Landing of the Mayflower Pilgrims in New England, arriving in Provincetown November 11, 1620. Prior to their sailing on to Plymouth, in an attempt to assure "Unity and Accord" in this new world, The Mayflower Compact was written and signed on shipboard, setting in motion America's first self-governing Democracy.

"Signed by most adult males on board, this document is now recognized, along with the Magna Carta and the United States Constitution, as one of the three most important documents in world history establishing self-government." (Jerry Roberts for National Maritime Historical Society "Sea History" Magazine, Summer 2020.)

Continuing to celebrate Provincetown's unique place in the history of America and the arts in America, Berta Walker Gallery joins in the "Provincetown 400" celebrations, honoring this first landing of Pilgrims on Provincetown soil, and the Native Americans who were here when they sailed in.

The gallery continues to celebrate Provincetown's unique history of "first landings" by introducing four new artists throughout the season: Mike Carroll, Lucy Clark, Deb Mell, Laura Shabott. They will join many of our historic community of artists to include Salvatore Del Deo, Romolo Del Deo, Joseph Diggs, Elspeth Halvorsen, In Memoriam, Sky Power, Paul Resika. Additionally, we are excited by a special invitational group exhibition, "Contemporary Cape Artists of Native American Heritage" to open in the fall in concert with festivities arranged by the Provincetown 400 Committee. Due to the restrictions caused by the 2020 worldwide Pandemic, most exhibitions will be presented with easy viewing through Walker's Windows and BY APPOINTMENT. As long as masks are required, the full exhibitions will only be viewable by appointment Click HERE to make an appointment to visit the gallery or call 508-487-6411 or 941-350-7135 (mobile).
