It is the 250th anniversary of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Wolfgang Mozart was born in 1756 in Salzburg, Austria. His musical talents revealed themselves at a tender age. Well before his teens father Leopold took him and his likewise gifted older sister Nannerl on several tours through Europe. Soon he became a widely known and admired child prodigy of an unsurpassed class of his own. Already at eight years old his first music was being published. It was the beginning of an astonishing career. The sheer amount of music he wrote is, with hindsight, incredible and of high quality. Amadeus must have written very fast to manage composing the over 600 works he left to posterity. His manuscripts hardly contain any deletions. Mozart’s versatility is impressive too. He wrote anything from simple canons for keyboard to large-scale symphonies and operas on a great variety of librettos. He often wrote for patrons, people he could dedicate work to, so he would get paid in return. Other works were his own initiative. In his music Mozart assimilated earlier and contemporary influences, like Bach’s, Haydn’s and Italian flavours, to develop a style entirely his own. This music has a special quality: it is accessible without being overtly simple. Some of his work has an uncanny beauty beyond description. Mozart’s music also has a certain vulnerability. Yet no rational explanation can be given why it is appealing to so many people. Wolfgang Mozart only lived to be 35 years old. He died on December 5 1791 as a result of a still unidentified illness. Ironically his last composition was a(n unfinished) Requiem. Oboist and artistic director of the Netherlands Wind Ensemble, and winner in 1991 of the prestigious 3m Music prize. In addition to his performances of standard repertoire, Bart Schneemann strives for expansion and renewal of the oboe repertoire. He attracted the attention of many composers: Gija Kantsjeli, Wolfgang Rihm, Tristan Keuris, Otto Ketting, John Zorn, Kevin Volans and Louis Andriessen are among those who have written new pieces for him. He teaches at the Royal Conservatory at the Hague. Paolo Giacometti performs all over the world as a soloist and as a chamber musician, both on period and on modern instruments. He was born in Milan in 1970. He studied with Jan Wijn, won the Steinway Competition, the Parke-Davis Förder Preis, the Brahms Competition in Hamburg and the Postbank Sweelinck Competition. In addition to his solo concert career, he is also active in chamber music. With Bart Schneemann and with the cellist Pieter Wispelwey he toured all over the world. In april 1988 he started working on a project to record all of Rossini’s piano compositions. The cd’s where a great success and the press reports were, if possible, even more enthusiastic. In May 2001 he received an Edison Award for best Dutch performing artist. 2 Kees Hulsmann studied in Amsterdam with Jo Juda and in London with Manoug Parikian.

    Notiziario di informazione musicale e avvenimenti culturali LA FENICE Comunicato stampa n. 12 Conferenza stampa Venezia, 2 luglio 2004 Stagione Lirica 2004-2005 Daphne di Richard Strauss Daphne, tragedia bucolica in un atto di Richard Strauss su libretto di Joseph Gregor vedrà la sua prima rappresentazione a Venezia, al Teatro La Fenice dal 9 al 21 giugno 2005, con repliche il 12, 15 e 18. Stefan Anton Reck dirigerà l’Orchestra e Coro del Teatro La Fenice; direttore del Coro è Piero Monti; nuovo allestimento, regia di Paul Curran; scene e costumi di Kevin Knight. Gli interpreti principali saranno: Daniel Lewis Williams, Peneios; Birgit Remmert, Gaea; June Anderson, Daphne; Roberto Saccà, Leukippos; Frank Porretta Apollo. La proposta di un’opera incentrata sul mito di Dafne venne avanzata a Strauss direttamente dall’autore del libretto, Joseph Gregor, che nel 1935 ne aveva già ultimato la scrittura. Strauss accettò, ma non rinunciò a chiedere una serie di corpose modifiche al testo (fra le quali la soppressione del previsto coro sentenzioso conclusivo), occupando Gregor in una serie di rielaborazioni a partire dal settembre 1935, fino a decidere di scrivere a quattro mani la versione definitiva, terminata nel 1937. Il lavoro alla partitura occupò gli ultimi mesi dello stesso anno e l’atto unico venne presentato alla Staatsoper di Dresda il 15 ottobre 1938, sotto la guida di un direttore fortemente legato all’esperienza creativa straussiana, Karl Böhm. Di fronte alle sollecitazioni del testo, Strauss rispose optando per scelte drammaturgico-musicali di trasparente allusività. Al ruolo della protagonista egli dedicò linee melodiche sinuose ed avvolgenti, quasi visivamente ramificate come in una figura liberty, con un procedimento che si fa emblematico nella finale dissoluzione della linea melodica in rabescati vocalizzi.
