Hugh Dallas made his international debut at a UEFA Cup match between Aalborg BK and Deportivo La Coruña in Denmark on 14 September 1993. Curiously, his third international game was outside Europe – a friendly between the USA and Bolivia played in…Dallas. He was back in the United States for the 1996 Olympic Tournament and handled the Belgium v Mexico and Italy v France matches during the 1998 World Cup finals. At EURO 2000, he handled the Turkey v Italy and Norway v Yugoslavia matches. Hugh Dallas has been the referee of five UEFA Champions League matches this season, among them Real Madrid CF’s fixture against RSC Anderlecht in the Estadio Santiago Bernabéu. Two weeks ago, he was the referee of the UEFA Cup semi-final in Germany, when 1. FC Kaiserslautern were defeated 4-1 by the Spanish finalists, Deportivo Alavés.
