Jules Verne (1828 - 1905) was the first author to popularize the literary genre of science fiction. With a meticulous scientific foundation for his fantastic adventure stories, Verne forecasts with remarkable accuracy many scientific achievements of the 20th century. In 1863, Verne wrote Paris in the 20th Century, about a young man who lives in a world of skyscrapers, high-speed trains, gas-powered automobiles, calculators and a worldwide communications network, yet cannot find happiness and comes to a tragic end. Verne is the author of a number of the literary world’s most popular works, including Journey to the Centre of the Earth, From the Earth to the Moon, Around the World in 80 Days and the evergreen Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea. “Jules Verne’s Mysterious Island” is executive produced by Robert Halmi, Jr. and Larry Levinson. Nick Lombardo, Michael Moran, and H. Daniel Gross are co-executive producers. The Hallmark Channel Original movie event was produced by Russ Markowitz and directed by Russell Mulcahy.
