It was a great surprise as I booked over the internet for a special offer on a dog friendly hotel! As we neared our destination it became clear it was in the middle of nowhere. When we found the drive, which was well hidden, it went on for over a mile. Eventually we came down to a large lake and waterfall, rounded a corner and there in front of us was the most lovely view of a castellated building surrounded by water, on an estuary. We later found out it was a wild life reserve, and there were an abundance of voles and birds and bats and hedgehogs. My two little dogs had their noses down with all the wonderful scents on the walks along the water. It wasn’t far from the sea and the Pembrokeshire coast has the most wonderful beaches set in most beautiful scenery with rugged cliffs and headlands and many islands off the coast. We could walk for miles on the beaches and Ludo and Lupin were in seventh heaven. They could run at full speed away from us and never lose sight of us. There were many surfers in the sea, and, as the tide went out, huge shining wet areas that reflected the sky. One day we went to St Davids, to the cathedral. It is extraordinary in that it has a sloping floor, and from the highest point to the lowest there is a seventeen and a half foot drop. It has nestled in its valley by a river since the 1100s, and is soaked with the prayers that have risen there over the centuries. My faith was a bit like this journey. I lost sight of God for many years, and then one day, after the loss of my child, it was as if I had turned a corner and to my great surprise there was a wonderful view where there was comfort and strength and help and light in my darkness. And now, even if I wished to run, I could never lose sight of God for he is in everything and everywhere. It is now ten years 4 since I started my three year training as a Sarum Reader, followed by training for the priesthood, followed by four years as a curate. On 21st October Jane Dunlop and I will have been licensed as Team Priests in the Clarendon Team by Alan Jeans the Archdeacon. This isn’t the end of our journeys but the beginning of new ones. Even in the gloomy days of November you can always be surprised by unexpected views of beauty and light and hope. With love, Cynthia. Clarendon Team - Team Administrator The Clarendon Team ministry, a group of 6 parishes and 10 churches, is looking for an experienced and skilled administrator to come and join the team on a part-time basis to support our work. The purpose of the role is to supervise and facilitate the day-to-day administrative operations of the Team working alongside and under the supervision of the Rector, and supported by other clergy and the various officers of the church. As well as providing effective administration and management within the church, the post-holder will be a key member of the Team. This position requires a professional approach and the ability to work on your own. Sound decision-making, multi-tasking, self-motivation, discretion and respecting confidentiality are essential. The post-holder will need confident and proven organizational, communication, IT and interpersonal skills. As a faith-based organization, we would want the post-holder to respect our beliefs. The post-holder will be based in our office in Winterslow. Hours of work will be 10-15 hours per week, preferably in the mornings. Exact hours will be negotiable and term-time working may be possible. Salary is dependent on skills and experience. For further information and to apply please send your CV, covering letter and references to [email protected] by 16th November. 5 From the registers Baptisms Hannah Elizabeth MOORE at St Peter’s, Pitton on 14th October 2012 Funerals Wilson Treeve STEPHENS at St Peter’s, Pitton on 3rd October 2012 HOLY TRINITY EAST GRIMSTEAD An apology…the last magazine issue quoted Songs of Praise 6th November. Due to a clerical error last year’s file was sent to the printers. So…no songs of praise this November. Thanks to the three readers who pointed out our error! Mea culpa ! We had a great Harvest Supper with about 60 people present and welcomed new residents into the village. Our thanks for the tasty food and all the wonderful puddings, also to our overseas visitors who did a fantastic raffle. In all we raised £400 for the church roof restoration. Thank you every one who came and supported us and made it such a pleasant evening. Canon Vanda Perrett We have not held a Quiet Day in the Parish for about three years and several people have requested we organise another one. Therefore we are presently planning a day to take place just before the start of Advent. For most of us Christmas is a busy time and it is hoped that this will provide a quiet space for us to reflect on the themes of Advent and our personal spiritual journey. There will be an act of worship to start the day and also at the close. Vanda has very kindly agreed to lead us and will give three separate talks to guide us in our thoughts and prayers.

The Parish Church of St. Michael the Archangel, Mere Meeting of the Parochial Church Council with Archdeacon Alan Jeans held on Tuesday 6 July at 3pm in The Grove Buildings 1. Opening: Jean opened the meeting with a prayer. 2. Present: Archdeacon Alan Jeans, Hamish Bell, Judy Bickerstaff, Barry Clarke, Sherry Dixon, Derek Fisher, Jane Hurd, Pat Isom, Jean Knapp, Isabel Page, John Page, Julia Rankin, Nicky Ravenhill (notes), Kit Stallard, Lesley Traves, Richard Wilson. Apologies: Christine Marsh. 3. Jean Knapp welcomed The Venerable Alan Jeans, Archdeacon of Sarum to the meeting and congratulated him on his recent award of the MBE. Archdeacon Alan Jeans outlined his work with the Bishops of Salisbury and Ramsbury and his pastoral oversight over 100 parishes and 60 clergy across a large area of the Diocese. Archdeacon Jeans welcomed an open agenda and explained he was very happy to discuss Mere and PCC business, and would be dealing with the vacancy/future options as a whole Benefice as he was legally obliged to do. He will be meeting with the PCC of Maiden Bradley next week and is to get a meeting with the West Knoyle PCC in the diary. There is also an aspiration to meet with the Churchwardens and possibly the Treasurers of the three PCC’s in the future. Archdeacon Jeans thanked the PCC for the paper sent to him in advance, which included some helpful information for him and also some assumptions to address. With a potential deficit of £3.5m following a £1.5m deficit at the end of 2020, alongside a £2.5m Covid-19 loan drawn down to start to repay in September, there is no option to “do nothing”.
