DIOCESAN CYCLE OF PRAYER June – August 2018 God our Father, renew our hope. By the Holy Spirit’s power strengthen us to pray readily, serve joyfully and grow abundantly rejoicing in Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. 1 June The Diocese’s Pray Forum and the Rt Revd Karen Gorham, Chair Pray for the work of the Pray Forum. Give thanks for the work of Spiritual Direction across the diocese; for those who have attended the recent pilgrimages and who will be celebrating the life of St Witta today at Whitchurch Canonicorum; and our ongoing life of prayer, including all those who contribute to this ongoing cycle. 2 June Liturgy, Worship and Spirituality. Lay Assistants, Servers & Sacristans, Organists & Choirs, Music Groups Give thanks for all in our churches who give so willingly of the gifts God has given them to enliven worship. Pray for the Music in Worship network as it develops its work to support parishes in developing and resourcing music in worship through deaneries. Praying at ‘Thy Kingdom Come’ in Salisbury Cathedral. 3 June – First Sunday after Trinity Sherborne Deanery Vivian Enever (Rural Dean), David Fifield (Rural Dean). Pray for Clergy families for a well-earned break during the Summer Holidays. Give thanks to God for church/village links as we approach the Summer Fetes. For Rev George Moody and his family as they prepare to come to Three Valleys Team in September. Anglican Cycle of Prayer: Please pray for the Anglican Church of Melanesia, and for The Most Revd George Takeli, Archbishop of the Anglican Church of Melanesia and Bishop of Central Melanesia. 4 June Melbury Clergy: Tim Greenslade, Daniel Ingles, Linda Wilcock. LLMs: Paul Rendell, Janet Danks, Rosemary Clary. Pray that we would have a clear sense of God’s direction as we seek to build his church amongst our scattered communities; that we would foster the links we have with people we are meeting through Messy Church and Breakfast Church and that we present the Lord Jesus clearly to them. Give thanks to God for the fund-raising efforts in both Nether Compton and Trent Church. Nether Compton is re-roofing part of the church; Trent is restoring East and West Windows. Pray for the Benefice as it approaches an Interregnum in August. Give thanks to God for LPAs, LWLs and LLMs, particularly Michael Frazer's Commissioning as LWL. Give thanks for the staff, students, parents, governors and trustees who work together to ensure that the Gryphon lives out its mission to be a 10:10 school where life is lived in its fullness. 10 June – Second Sunday After Trinity All ordinands within the Diocese and those exploring their vocation. For increased vocations to ordained and lay ministry. Please pray for those to be ordained deacon and priest this Petertide; for those preparing to begin training this September. Anglican Cycle of Prayer: Please pray for the La Iglesia Anglicana de Mexico, and for The Most Revd Francisco Moreno, Presiding Bishop of La Iglesia Anglicana de Mexico & Bishop of Northern Mexico. 11 June – St Barnabas the Apostle Retired Clergy and Clergy Widows/Widowers Ann Philp (Ramsbury), John Wood (Sherborne) Pray for the many retired clergy who remain active in ministry and for the Diocesan and Deanery Clergy Retirement Officers who support them and their families; pray for those who are no longer active and for the Widows and Dependents Officers supporting clergy families especially through bereavement. Please pray too for Ann and John, and all others who assist with this. 12 June Blackmore Vale Deanery Simon Chambers (Rural Dean), Sue Chandler (Lay Chair). Pray for those areas of new housing in our deanery that are growing organically often without a sense of community, for our outreach and welcome to them; for our Deanery Synod members as we revisit our deanery plan, and give thanks for the cheerfulness of our Deanery clergy. 13 June Gillingham & Milton on Stour Clergy: Peter Greenwood, Eve Pegler, Tim Heaton, Andy Muckle, David Botterill, Jean Coates, Anne Heywood, Jeffrey Hall, Bernard Joy, Peter Price. Please join us in praying for the students and staff of Gillingham and Milton’s schools and preschools as they work towards the end of another school year, for all who are moving up, or moving on, all that changes and all that remains the same. Pray for all members of the congregation who participate in the various village organizations which offer care and support: especially the monthly Luncheon Club, the Pop-in Cafe, welcome to new arrivals, giving thanks for all those whom they work alongside in these endeavours. LLM: Judy Waite. Give thanks for the Barnabas celebrations at Stock Gaylard (9-11 June). Give thanks for the 150th anniversary of St Mary’s Church, Stalbridge (Victorian renovations) as celebrated on 14-15 July. Pray for those on the margins of our communities and for our schools, and pray that our churches may discern God’s call in each of our parishes and together respond faithfully and confidently. Pray for transition days taking place, where children are visiting the next stages of their learning: an exciting but anxious time for many children.
