DIOCESAN CYCLE OF PRAYER June – August 2018

Amen. 1 June The Diocese’s Pray Forum and the Rt Revd , Chair Pray for the work of the Pray Forum. Give thanks for the work of Spiritual Direction across the diocese; for those who have attended the recent pilgrimages and who will be celebrating the life of St Witta today at Whitchurch Canonicorum; and our ongoing life of prayer, including all those who contribute to this ongoing cycle. 2 June Liturgy, Worship and Spirituality. Lay Assistants, Servers & Sacristans, Organists & Choirs, Music Groups Give thanks for all in our churches who give so willingly of the gifts God has given them to enliven worship. Pray for the Music in Worship network as it develops its work to support parishes in developing and resourcing music in worship through deaneries.

Pray for God’s blessing on the projects prioritised in our Deanery Plan as we seek to nurture discipleship and vocation, for creative approaches to music and worship, for work with children and young people and for those working to care for the environment. Pray also for the guidance of the Holy Spirit as we seek to reach out to new communities with the growth of new housing developments in our deanery. Pray for new outreach activities: the Saturday morning cafe in the church, that people would feel welcome and new friendships will be made and developed; the new midweek carer and toddlers group, that becomes a supportive place for young families, and new relationships can be developed with families there. For the new service pattern starting on Sundays, that this may be well received and encourage others to join us. Anglican Cycle of Prayer: Please pray for The Episcopal Church in the Philippines. 23 July – St Mary Magdalene Cranborne with Boveridge, Edmondsham, Wimborne St Giles and Woodlands Clergy: Rob Simpson. Give thanks for a wonderful group of worshippers in our churches who make a good team together. Pray for the development of two mission initiatives that we are trying to get well-established. One is ‘Touching Heaven’ a series of evenings where we offer a meal and film clips for discussion together around a theme. The other is ‘Pause for Thought’ an after school gathering for children and parents with a ‘Messy Church’ style format. That ties in with our VA schools – Cranborne First and Wimborne St Giles First. So far ‘Pause for Thought’ has only been in Cranborne but we are keen to get it going in St Giles as well. Pray for the two heads, Annette Faithfull at Cranborne and Philippa Hill at Wimborne St Giles, both navigating their schools through budget pressures for the next year or two and seeking to boost numbers on the school rolls. 24 July Hampreston Clergy: Sarah Pix, Everton McLeod, Patches Chabala, Barry Lomax, Ray Forbes. 23 August Poole St Edwards RC-CE VA School Pray that the new communion table we are about to install in the new Chapel, will be a focus for its dedication, “May we be one”.
