  • 2018 ANNUAL REPORT It Was a Milestone Year for the International Education Sector
2018 ANNUAL REPORT It was a milestone year for the international education sector. This year Canada achieved its goal of Message from the welcoming 450,000 international students…five years ahead of schedule. Interim President At the end of December there were 494,525 international students in Canada. This number representing all levels of Canadian education clearly demonstrates the continuing attractiveness of Canada as a study and CEO destination and the strong focus of our member institutions across the country on supporting international students effectively. Canada now holds the fourth highest spot as receiver of post-secondary international students after the United States, United Kingdom and China, surpassing Australia and France. Our own organization has had a part to play in welcoming these students to Canada. In June, the Canadian Francophonie Scholarship Program (CFSP) celebrated thirty years of success in capacity building and the management of nearly 2,500 scholars from 37 beneficiary countries of La Francophonie. This scholarship program is entirely funded by the Government of Canada which has entrusted the management of the program to the Canadian Bureau for International Education (CBIE) in partnership with World University Service of Canada. A survey conducted by CFSP in 2016 found that 90% of students recognized the quality of the training in Canada and 80% of home institutions recognized the capacity building effect of the program. That same month we launched a project with the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) to strengthen the qualifications and capacity of Filipino higher education institutions. In July CBIE delivered a comprehen- sive training program in internationalization to senior leaders from universities in the Philippines.

  • Vestechpro Is Committed to the Training of New Employees in the Apparel Industry of the Future Montreal, October 3, 2016
Press release For immediate release Vestechpro is committed to the training of new employees in the apparel industry of the future Montreal, October 3, 2016 - Vestechpro, apparel research and innovation center, in collaboration with the Bureau de la mode de Montréal and their partners, presents the second edition of the Montreal meeting of wearables, on the 19 and 20 October at the Agora Hydro-Quebec. Some 300 technophiles, including several experts of international renown, researchers, professionals and business entrepreneurs from the industry have been invited to this highly-anticipated event in order to share their expertise and their vision of products and services of the future. Since its creation in 2011, Vestechpro has been involved in this booming industry and this year continues its leadership in innovation by presenting a round table activity with representatives from higher education who will discuss the training of new and future employees in the techno apparel sector. Guest participants will address key issues concerning the role of educational projects within a technological ecosystem. In 2015, the worldwide wearables market experienced a growth of 172% and this year, more than 275 million wearables will be sold around the world, with sales estimated at $28 billion US. Does this high level of interest justify the development of a specific training programme in wearables apparel in higher education institutions? The growth and accessibility of technological applications through service distribution networks and smart products

  • Annual Report2012
Annual Report2012 Expertise Knowledge Opportunity Leadership Gaining Momentum Over the past year, the Canadian Bureau for International Education (CBIE) has been engaging with decision-makers and practitioners, capitalizing on a wealth of opportunities in Canada and abroad, and building on the major changes initiated by our membership task force in 2011. Leadership • The theme of this annual report is Gaining Momentum, chosen to reflect CBIE’s increasing strength, breadth and visibility as an organization, as well as the expanding awareness and support for international education across Canada — in educational institutions, governments, business, media, and the general public. While focal points and terms may differ — study abroad, international student mobility, education exports, internationalization — overall recognition of the value of international education is clearly gaining momentum. CBIE will continue to play a central role in expanding knowledge of and support for international education over the coming years. In 2011-12, we advocated for greater focus on international education, and were gratified at the appointment of the Advisory Panel on Canada’s International Education Strategy by the federal government. We provided substantial input to the Panel, participating in the majority of its consultations and engaging with the Panel’s Chair and members at our 2011 conference. Opportunity • We continued to build the Canadian Consortium for International Education Marketing (CCIEM), comprising the five leading organizations representing the vast majority of the education sector in Canada. We worked to raise the profile of CCIEM with senior leaders and with the public, making the case for a key role for CCIEM in action plans pertaining to international education.
