This housing guide is a reference document for students and future students of the LaSalle College Group. You’ll find it useful for, among other things, locating suitable housing and discovering your new neighbourhood.

HOUSING

LASALLE COLLEGE GROUP RESIDENCE

The two LaSalle College Group buildings are located in the middle of Ville-Marie – one of the city's most exciting neighbourhoods – and a mere five-minute walk from the college itself. It is a historic neighbourhood, a business centre and economic motor that is also beloved by tourists as an alembic of knowledge and culture – a symbol of creativity and the arts. Since they are virtually adjacent to the Guy and Atwater subway stations, these apartments will provide you with simple and quick access to public transit, allowing you to easily reach virtually any area in North America's great north-eastern cultural metropolis.

Studio-apartments in the 82-unit or the 11-unit building can be rented furnished or unfurnished. Š Studio I is a large room comprising an open kitchenette and a bathroom. It is furnished with a futon or bed, couch, desk, dining room table, corner table, kitchen table with two chairs, refrigerator and stove. Š Studio II is similar to studio I, but it features a closed kitchenette, and is furnished with a bed, two desks, a futon, a couch, a dining room table, a corner table, a kitchen table with four chairs, a refrigerator and a stove.

For students who want to maintain their independence, this type of accommodation offers many advantages: a wireless Internet system so you can work in the comfort of your apartment, access to an in-building laundry service, basic telephone service, cable for your television, and the peace of mind that comes with having a concierge.

Paid parking is available in both the LaSalle College and LaSalle College Group apartment buildings.

Maxxum – June 4, 2009 // Page 7 of 16 HOMESTAY

Homestay gives you the opportunity to become more quickly integrated into Québec culture and the milieu you'll be living in while at the college. You'll be learning about the customs and practices of your host family, learning their values and growing personally as well as scholastically.

This service includes: Š Your own bedroom Š A choice between no meals, two meals, or three meals a day Š Sheets and a bath towel

To make the most of this experience and avoid misunderstandings, it's important to speak to your hosts in order to determine the house rules and regulations concerning showers, the telephone, guests, curfews, noise and so on.

If you have any problems with the host family, you are invited to meet a college counsellor at the admissions office, who will be happy to help you find a mutually satisfying solution to the issue.

Here are some basic rules for having a pleasurable homestay:

MEALS

Š Respect mealtimes agreed upon with your host, and call the family to let them know if you think you'll be late or absent for those meals. Of course, missed meals will not be replaced. Š Inform your hosts about your allergies, if any. Š Ask permission before using the kitchen or household appliances, and, if you cook, do so at reasonable times. Š Remember that the customs for preparing and eating food probably differ from yours.

BATHROOMS

Š Inform your hosts if you plan to take an extra-long shower or bath. Š Leave the bathroom in the same state as you found it, or better. Š Have your own soap, shampoo and other bathroom products.

LAUNDRY

Š Ask permission to use the washer and/or drier. Š Ask for instructions on using the washer and/or drier.

Maxxum – June 4, 2009 // Page 8 of 16 TELEPHONE

Š Ask your hosts about any telephone-usage rules they may have. Š Get an international calling card for your long distance calls. Š Dial 911 in case of emergency.
