He received his Bachelor’s Degree from East Stroudsburg University and has been a teacher of Health and Physical Education at Freehold Township High School since 1992. His tireless work ethic and passion for education are second to none. Mr. Gualtieri always possesses excellent time- management skills to balance his every day obligations and is constantly researching innovative ways to educate his students. He Administrative Team Principal has accomplished so much during the course of his career. Mrs. Elizabeth Higley Mr. Gualtieri: Assistant Principals developed and installed our disc-golf course, as well as our beach Dr. David Bleakley volleyball courts, bocce courts, and horseshoe pits. 12th Grade 9th Grade A-F raised funds through several donations and he physically installed Mr. Shawn Currie all of these projects during the summer months to enhance the 10th Grade physical education program for each upcoming school year. 9th Grade G-N created the First Aid Club, so our students have an opportunity to Mrs. Susan Field become CPR certified. 11th Grade 9th Grade O-Z organizes and runs a disc golf tournament after school that is open SECA to both students and staff. Mr. Adam Brusotti Supervisor of purchases prizes and shirts for his physical education students for Extracurricular various elective activities throughout the year. Activities brought foot golf to FTHS as an elective this year with the assistance of his colleagues. raises money annually for Coins for Kids, where all of the money is donated to buy stuffed animals for the pediatric unit at Centra- State Hospital. The staff and students alike recognize Mr. Gualtieri’s dedication to FTHS and we are fortunate to have him on our staff. Congratulations, Mr. Gualtieri! PATRIOT NEWSLETTER Winter 2017 2 Important Testing Dates PARCC REGULAR TESTING: Starts March 27, 2017 The Class of 2020 can demonstrate graduation assessment proficiency by taking all PARCC assessments associated with the high-school level cours- es for which they are eligible; Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II, ELA 9, ELA 10, ELA 11. Student use of a cell phone or ANY electronic mobile device during a PARCC test session is strictly prohibited. NO student is to be in POSSES- SION of a cellphone or any electronic mobile device. Possession of any such device during a PARCC session AND/OR use of that device to photo- graph and/or transmit an image of PARCC test content, will result in the Principal or designee confiscating the device and enforcing appropriate NJBCT: Biology Competency Test May 31, 2017—June 1, 2017 Make-up Testing: June 7, 2017- June 8, 2017 All students, regardless of grade level, who are currently enrolled in any first level Biology course, will take the test (Lab Biology, Academic Lab Biology, Agri-biology and Honors Lab Biolo- gy). The performance assessment is scenario-based and includes science related issues, experi- mental write-ups, data charts and graph analysis. This is an important program for both students and parents alike. Parent and student attendance is Mandatory to apply for parking on campus for the senior year. The student program will held during the school day. The program for parents/guardians will be held at Freehold Township High School on Thursday March 2, 2017 beginning at 7:00 pm in the auditorium. Parents must sign an attendance sheet at the end of the program to verify attendance. We look forward to seeing you there. LaPlaga With the help of FTHS students and teachers, FTHS donated 2372 pounds of food to the Food Bank of Monmouth and Ocean Counties. Ms. O”Neill’s first period class do- nated the most items to the Food Bank. They received a breakfast on December 23. PATRIOT NEWSLETTER Winter 2017 4 International Baccalaureate Diploma Program (IB) Students are invited to enroll in our Pilot International Baccalaureate Di- ploma Program. The IB Diploma Program is an interdisciplinary, college preparatory and international- ly recognized course of study for students in 11th and 12th grade. Students would also follow a recom- mended pre-IB course of study in 9th and 10th grade to ensure their preparedness for the program. Freehold Township High School is one of only 14 high schools in New Jersey that offers this highly re- spected program. IB learners strive to be inquirers, knowledgeable, thinkers, communicators, principled, open-minded, caring, risk-takers, balanced, and reflective. Students with these traits thrive in the dynamic, interdisci- plinary, and student-centered IB environment. The Diploma Program prepares students for college and life and work in an increasingly global society as they: develop physically, intellectually, emotionally and ethically; acquire breadth and depth of knowledge and understanding, studying courses from six subject groups; develop the skills and a positive attitude towards learning that will prepare them for higher education; study a foreign language and increase understanding of cultures, including their own; make connections across traditional academic disciplines and explore the nature of knowledge through the program’s unique Theory of Knowledge course; undertake in-depth research into an area of interest through the lens of one or more academic disci- plines in the extended essay; enhance their personal and interpersonal development through creativity, action and service (CAS). Some- thing this good won’t last long, so buy your 2016-2017 yearbook now and pay the lowest price of the season. The price of a yearbook is $105. This price offer ends February 24th and will continue to increase as the year goes on. Don’t forget, senior baby pictures are due no later than January 6th. We ask that the photo be high quality, vertical in orientation, and sent via email to [email protected] Attention parents of the SENIOR class: Furthering the creation of a yearbook full of memories, you’ll also be able to make a yearbook containing some personal touches of your own. There are “Yearbook Ads” offered this year, and we are offering four different sizing options for each ad purchased, and the choice of color or black and white print. The process of creating an ad is convenient while allowing you to capture a memory for your student that will last well beyond their high school years. We hope that you choose to show your support through the purchasing of an ad, however time is limited and all ads must be submitted by February 10th, 2017. She has been teaching English at Freehold Township High School since 2001 and has taught across the academic spectrum. She currently teaches English IV and Honors English I. Not only is Ms. English an Administrative Team exemplary educator, she also currently devotes countless hours to the students of Freehold Township High School outside of the classroom. Over the years she has held Principal countless coaching and committee positions, too numerous to list, including taking the Mrs. Elizabeth Higley Girls Field Hockey team to the state sectional championship. Currently, Ms. English is the Head Girls Tennis Coach, JV Girls Basketball Coach and Freshman Softball Coach. Assistant Principals She also serves on our Athletic Hall of Fame and Distinguished Alumni Hall of Fame Committees and is the embodiment of school spirit as the chair of the Patriot Pride Mrs. Shae-Brie Dow 12th Grade Committee. Her latest initiative is the Patriot Female Athlete Mentorship Program.     Freehold Area (NJ) Branch of AAUW honors Outstanding High School Students' Award Recipients (The Rose Fishkin Scholarship Award) Winners The six highest ranking female seniors from the Freehold Regional High Schools were honored at our May 11th Meeting. Their brief bios indicate their outstanding academic achievements as well as their impressive community involvement, artistic and athletic skills. These awards are named for Rose Fishkin who was a member of our branch, a Cornell graduate and a believer in lifelong education for women. We congratulate each recipient and wish them continued success in their chosen endeavors. We would also like to thank the Freehold community for their continued support of our annual used book sale. This sale enables our organization to fund these awards. From left to right: Heather Colleen Berger - Manalapan High School Heather has the highest GPA at her high school, is secretary of the National Honor Society, Treasurer of the Spanish Honor Society, an AP Scholar with distinction and a National Merit student. She has been a student council member for all four years, works with the “Save a Brave” program and is treasurer of the Environmental Organization. Heather has studied dance and commutes to Manhattan for the Broadway Dance Center’s Children’s Program. In addition to tutoring algebra and geometry she works as a counselor in the Ivy League Day Camp. Raeann Giannattasio - Colts Neck High School Raeann is a student in Law and Public Service at her high school where she earned the highest grade point average. Our Annual Used Book Sale funds these awards and they are named for a former branch member, Rose Fishkin, who was a Cornell graduate and a believer in education for women. (From left to right) Erica Lee represents Colts Neck High School and is involved in law and public service programs, is editor in chief of the school newspaper and is president of the Technology Student Association. She participates in the NJ Science League, the Shore Math League and is completing her internship at the Monmouth County Superior Court in Freehold. She will be attending Cornell University in the fall. Rachael Zhou attends Marlboro High School is president of the science league and future Business Leaders of America as well as being the highest scoring member of her math league team. She has performed at Carnegie Hall and won several competitions. Rachael has earned a rare 2400 on the SATs and posses a provisional patent as an inventor. She volunteers weekly at Riverview Hospital and is self-employed in the SAT tutoring business. Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania awaits her in the fall.

Baer Open Public meetings Act, N.J.S.A. 10:4-6 et seq., (the “Act”) provides that the Hazlet Township Board of Education may hold an “Executive Session” from which the public is excluded to discuss matters that are confidential or are one of the nine (9) subject matters listed Section 12(b) of the Act; and WHEREAS, it is recommended by the Superintendent that the Hazlet Township Board of Education go into Executive Session on this date at Raritan High School, 419 Middle Road, Hazlet, New Jersey to discuss matters that are permissible for discussion in Executive Session; and WHEREAS, the length of the Executive Session is estimated to be sixty (60) minutes after which the public meeting of the Board shall reconvene and proceed with business; and WHEREAS, that the Board hereby declares that its discussion of the following subject(s) will be made public at a time when the public’s interest in disclosure is greater than any privacy or governmental interest being protected from disclosure.
