English Teacher Wishing our Patriot Nation a Ms. English graduated from Villanova University in 2001 with a Bachelor of Science in Wonderful 2019 Education concentrating in English. She has been teaching English at Freehold Township High School since 2001 and has taught across the academic spectrum. She currently teaches English IV and Honors English I. Not only is Ms. English an Administrative Team exemplary educator, she also currently devotes countless hours to the students of Freehold Township High School outside of the classroom. Over the years she has held Principal countless coaching and committee positions, too numerous to list, including taking the Mrs. Elizabeth Higley Girls Field Hockey team to the state sectional championship. Currently, Ms. English is the Head Girls Tennis Coach, JV Girls Basketball Coach and Freshman Softball Coach. Assistant Principals She also serves on our Athletic Hall of Fame and Distinguished Alumni Hall of Fame Committees and is the embodiment of school spirit as the chair of the Patriot Pride Mrs. Shae-Brie Dow 12th Grade Committee. Her latest initiative is the Patriot Female Athlete Mentorship Program. She 9th Grade A-F does all of this with a smile while attending Rowan University where she is working towards her Masters Degree in Educational Administration. Mrs. Leighanne Recktenwald 11th Grade 9th Grade G-N EDUCATIONAL SERVICES PROFESSIONAL OF THE YEAR Ms. Irene Roake Mrs. Jennifer Williams 10th Grade School Nurse 9th Grade O-Z Ms. Roake attended Trenton State College. She received her nursing license in 1982. SECA Mr. Adam Brusotti She began working at Freehold Township High School in September of 1998 as the school Supervisor of nurse. Her experience helps to mitigate stressful situations experienced by our staff and Extracurricular students on a daily basis. The duties she executes at Freehold Township High School are Activities many, including, but not limited to, administering and containing medications, perform- ing health assessments and screenings, communicating with health care providers, thera- pists, parents and staff, and managing students’ continuing health needs for field trips or sports. Nurse Roake also works diligently to provide data for the Nursing Service Plan to the Monmouth County Superintendent’s Office. PATRIOT NEWSLETTER Winter 2019 2 WELCOME LEIGHANNE RECKTENWALD Assistant Principal Mrs. Leighanne Recktenwald came to us in October as an Assistant Principal. Mrs. Recktenwald holds a bachelor’s degree from The College of New Jersey and a master’s de- gree from the University of Scranton. She began her career in education at Colts Neck High School as a Social Studies teacher in 2003, and became the Academic Supervisor of Social Studies, World Languages, and AVID at Freehold High School in 2016. She lives in Point Pleasant with her husband and daughter. WELCOME ISABELLE RAMIREZ Supervisor of Guidance Mrs. Isabelle Ramirez came to us at the end of October as Supervisor of Guidance. Previous- ly, she was a counselor for 14 years and held the position of facilitator for the past 2 years. She resides in Bergen County with her husband and children. SUPPORT THE FTHS PTO [email protected] The PTO provides many valuable services to the Patriot community. In order for it to continue its work volunteers are needed to serve on the executive board and some committees. Please consider volunteering even if you on- ly have an hour or so a month to contribute. Every effort, no matter how small, helps the PTO achieve its goal of providing support for the students, parents and faculty of FTHS. Remember without the PTO there would be no Senior Banquet, Refreshments and Assistance at Conferences & 8th Grade Orientation, PTO Scholarships, Teacher Appreciation Week Program and Teacher Grants. We all need to do our part in supporting the efforts of this great group. Please take time from your busy schedule to invest in your child’s education by attending the PTO meet- ings held at 7:00 P.M. the second Tuesday of each month in the school’s Media Center. The PTO Executive board would like to wish you all a Happy and Healthy New Year. PATRIOT NEWSLETTER Winter 2019 3 STUDENT EMAIL ACCOUNTS Early Dismissal: February 15, April 12 For school related work students should be using School Closed: February 18, their school email accounts. The primary purpose is to communicate with school staff regarding as- May 27 signments and school activities and to collaborate with fellow students. Students must observe the Spring Recess: guidelines outlined in the Network User Agree- April 19-April 26 ment. Students are responsible for messages sent from their accounts. Students should NOT share The PATRIOT their account information or passwords. Students can log in to their email by going to PRESS IS ON-LINE http://frhsd.com and clicking the link for email access. MANDATORY 2019 “TEEN DRIVER SAFETY PROGRAM” The FRHSD Teen Driver Safety Program has been established to promote responsible driving. This is an important program for both students and parents alike. Parent and student attendance is mandatory to apply for parking on campus for the senior year. The student program will be held during the school day. The program for parents/guardians will be held at Freehold Township High School on Tuesday March 12, 2019 beginning at 6:00 pm in the auditorium. Parents must sign an attendance sheet at the end of the program to verify attendance. We look forward to seeing you there. You may attend the program at another school if another date better fits your schedule. The dates are listed below. For the safety and secu- rity of the school, we are asking that you limit drop off items, such as lunches, books, etc. Please remind your child to take all school belongings with them prior to coming to school. We cannot interrupt the learning environment to call students to the main office for pick ups. Thank you for your assistance. PATRIOT NEWSLETTER Winter 2019 4 International Baccalaureate Diploma Program (IB) Students are invited to enroll in our International Baccalaureate Diploma Program. The IB Diploma Program is an interdisciplinary, college preparatory and internationally rec- ognized course of study for students in 11th and 12th grade. Students would also follow a recommended course of study in 9th and 10th grade to ensure their preparedness for the program. Freehold Township High School is one of only 16 high schools in New Jersey that offers this highly respected program. IB learners strive to be inquirers, knowledgeable, thinkers, communicators, principled, open-minded, caring, risk-takers, balanced, and reflective. Students with these traits thrive in the dynamic, interdisci- plinary, and student-centered IB environment. The Diploma Program prepares students for college and life and work in an increasingly global society as they: develop physically, intellectually, emotionally and ethically; acquire breadth and depth of knowledge and understanding, studying courses from six subject groups; develop the skills and a positive attitude towards learning that will prepare them for higher education; study a foreign language and increase understanding of cultures, including their own; make connections across traditional academic disciplines and explore the nature of knowledge through the program’s unique Theory of Knowledge course; undertake in-depth research into an area of interest through the lens of one or more academic disci- plines in the extended essay; enhance their personal and interpersonal development through creativity, action and service (CAS). Web Design Program Coming To FTHS There is a new and exciting opportunity for Freehold Township rising 10th graders (current 9th grade students) to enroll in a Web Design CTE (Career and Technical Education) program for the fall of 2019. This three course hon- ors sequence will equip students with skills in computer languages, creative design, and business practices of web design. They will also participate in Structured Learning Experiences that will include field trips and job shadowing. The three courses culminates in the ability to earn three credits from NJIT. Please see your school counselor if you are interested.
