Mit den TTF Liebherr Ochsenhausen, dem 1. FC Saarbrücken TT und Borussia Düsseldorf mussten gleich drei Titelkandidaten am Sonntag ins Doppel, setzten sich aber jeweils durch. Ebenfalls ein 3:2 gab es für den TTC RhönSprudel Fulda-Maberzell gegen den TSV Bad Königshofen, während sich der Post SV Mühlhausen bei einem Drittligisten zurückkämpfte. Ein Sieg trennt die siegreichen Teams nun noch vom Final Four am 4. Januar 2020 in der ratiopharm arena Ulm/Neu-Ulm. Das Schwaben-Derby war ein großer Kampf und eine Angelegenheit von dreieinhalb Stunden. Der TTC Neu-Ulm nämlich bewies gegen die TTF Liebherr Ochsenhausen, unbedingt das Final Four vor der Haustür erreichen zu wollen. Schlüsselfigur war dabei einmal mehr Tiago Apolonia. Wie schon in den vergangenen Wochen war der Portugiese kaum zu bezwingen: Im ersten Einzel des Nachmittags setzte sich Apolonia gegen Stefan Fegerl mit 3:2 durch, im vierten brachte er den Pokal-Debütanten durch ein 3:2 gegen Hugo Calderano ins Doppel. Bereits am Freitag hatte Apolonia beide Einzel am 4. Spieltag der Tischtennis Bundesliga (TTBL) gewonnen und damit den Weg freigemacht für den Neu-Ulmer Premierensieg beim 3:2 gegen Saarbrücken. „Tiago spielt momentan ein Supertischtennis“, erkannte nach dem Spiel Ochsenhausens Simon Gauzy an. Doch ein Apolonia allein reicht nicht. Auf verlorenem Posten nämlich standen die anderen beiden Neu-Ulmer in ihren Einzeln: Abdel-Kader Salifou zog gegen Hugo Calderano mit 1:3 den Kürzeren, Gustavo Tsuboi war beim 0:3 gegen Gauzy chancenlos.
