The text-book was published with the financial support of International Visegrad Fund. This text-book is designed for students of the course: ‘Innovative Strategies of Territorial Development of V4: Experience for Ukraine' that was developed in 2015 by the members of Department of International Economics of Ternopil National Economic University (Ukraine) in cooperation with the partners from Matej Bel University (Slovak Republic) and University of Lodz (The Republic of Poland). The course is delivered for Ukrainian and foreign Master’s students of the Specialty “International Economics” at Ternopil National Economic University. The main goal of the course is sharing the experience of Visegrad countries (Poland, Slovakia, Hungary and Czech Republic) in their successful process of administrative and territorial reforms and spatial arranging of business, households and authorities. The lectures of the course are devoted to the following aspects: regional competitive advantage and strategic management; decentralization of power and placed-based approach; location of traditional agglomerations (towns or industrial district) and innovation- and relation-oriented alliances (clusters, creative regions etc.); rise of smart cities and creative class; peripheral regions’ stimulation and development of cross-border cooperation; residential mobility and many others.     Košice a drift in the European municipal politics István H. Németh Abstract This paper analyzes the city Košice as the capital of revolts that took a place in form the 16th to 18th century in the Hungarian Kingdom. It also presented the city as the centre of region situated into the the proximity of Transylvania and on the periphery of the Kingdom of Hungary, which caused the close connections to the history and political ambitions of the very close Principality of Transylvan. The paper also deals with mentioned factors and tries to place them in the frame of European municipal politics. Thus the author do not study the political changes occurring in the 16th – 18th centuries as local or national phenomena, but in comparison with the characteristics of municipal politics implemented also in the other states of Europe. Key words: Košice. 16th and 18th century. European municipal politics. In the Austrian and thus the international bibliography, the Kingdom of Hungary was depicted as the main source of revolts within the Habsburg Monarchy. This view was influenced not only by the historical facts, i.e. the attacks of the Transylvanian princes, the liberation war of Rákóczi or the 1848-49 war of independence. The Hungarian historians have taken a liking in depicting the relation of the Habsburgs and the Hungarians in this way, oversimplifying it to the „relation” of the oppressor and the rightly revolting party. In the minds of the Hungarians, Slovaks and Austrians, the city of Košice appears traditionally as the capital of these revolts.1 As far as the the political history of the city is concerned, this image is correct.

In this study, local politics of memory is memory politics that the Slovak city leaders, the minority communities and the local civil society practices. The paper will address politics of me- mory by elaborating on what a currently mono-ethnic Slovak city does with its remarkably rich Hungarian, German or Jewish heritage. The first part of the paper will discuss theoretical issues. The second part analyses the battle for the public space in the city after 1989. For doing so, it is necessary to outline the significance and the place of Košice in the Slovak and Hungarian collective historical memories. The focus of analysis will be on the memory sites inaugurated by the Slovak city leaders and the Hungarian community, as well as the local policy of the civil society in promoting the heritage of the city. The third section will discuss the shifting place of Sándor Márai, an internationally renowned Košice-born writer, in the way this heritage is represented.     REFORMATION IN HUNGARY HISTORIOGRAPHY, RESEARCH PROBLEMS, METHODOLOGY ZOLTÁN CSEPREGI INTRODUCTION: FROM PATRONS TO COMMUNITY In 1526 the Ottomans defeated the Hungarian army near Mohács, causing the col- lapse of the medieval kingdom of Hungary. King Louis II also died in the battle, resulting in a 15 year-long ight for the throne. Ferdinand (Habsburg) I and John (Szapolyai) I were both elected by the estates of the realm and legally crowned, and the Ottoman Empire sporadically interfered in the battle between the two kings. In 1541 the Turkish invaded Buda, the capital of the country, leading to the permanent split of Hungary into three parts, which lasted for centuries. The southern and middle territories were occupied by the Ottomans (Ottoman Hun- gary), while King Ferdinand's reign was consolidated in the northern and west- ern parts (Kingdom of Hungary), and in the East the kingdom of John I became the Principality of Transylvania. A border castle system was created on the borders of the territories occupied by the Ottomans, where there was continuous battling even in peaceful times. These three parts of the country also followed different paths in the Reformation. During the Turkish occupation the traditional church system almost completely ceased to exist. The new teachings could be spread freely, thus in this area the followers of the Helvetic tradition dominated (the Re- formed, Calvinist denomination was later also called "Hungarian religion"). In the Kingdom of Hungary the Lutheran Reformation prevailed at irst, then in the seventeenth century the Habsburgs reinstated the Roman Catholic majority with systematic re-Catholicisation.
