Therefore, the current study was designed and carried out during the past decade. A list of LFPs for 207 butterfly species (Super family Papilionoidea) of Sri Lanka is presented based on local studies and includes 785 plant-butterfly combinations and 480 plant species. Many of these combinations are reported for the first time in Sri Lanka. The impact of introducing new plants on the dynamics of abundance and distribution of butterflies, the possibility of butterflies being pests on crops, and observations of LFPs of rare butterfly species, are discussed. This information is crucial for the conservation management of the butterfly fauna in Sri Lanka. Key words: conservation, crops, larval food plants (LFPs), pests, plant-butterfly combination. The average elevation of the forest is around 90m. The altitude however ranges from 70–300 m. The reserve falls between Golaghat and elevation forests of Panbari Reserve, Kaziranga - West Karb Anglong (KA) districts of Assam. To the north of Karbi Hills, upper Assam is reported in this paper. Karbi the reserve lies Dollamora proposed reserve in Karbi Hills constitue a chain of hill ranges lying in middle Assam Anglong District and on the southern boundary is a in the southern bank of the river Brahmaputra. -

Leptotes (Zebra Blues) is a fairly cosmopolitan genus containing 30 species, 16 of which are found in the Afrotropical Region (Fric et al., 2019). -

Accepted 28 January, 2010 The diversity of butterflies inhabiting the department of atomic energy campus at Kalpakkam was recorded through a modified line transect methodology by setting a permanent line transect of 300m and recoding all species of butterflies observed within a five meter distance around the observer. Five habitats within the campus viz., Garden, Scrub jungle, Riparian woods, Sandy area and Casuarina plantation (Monoculture) were evaluated for analysis of the association of the butterfly species with the habitat. A total of 1908 individuals representing 55 species were observed across the five habitat types. Out of these, members belonging to the family Nymphalidae was the most common with 20 species being recorded accounting for 36.3% of total species and 53.6% of total number of individuals collected. The maximum diversity and abundance was observed in the scrub jungle and garden area; these two habitats sharing 29 species among themselves. The species accumulation curve and rarefaction curves computed indicated the likelihood of encountering more number of species in the campus had inventory been more rigorous and extended. -

It is a need of time to carry out such kind of research work for this area. ./ The primary objectives of the study was; • To inventories lepidoptera diversity of Mendrelgang (Tsirang) by extensive investigation. • To prepare a checklist of lepidoptera fauna of Mendrelgang (Tsirang) to established a foundation for research on lepidoptera. • To evaluate the threatened and endangered species of conservation importance. ./ The secondary objective of the study was; • To educate the youths about the rich biodiversity in Bhutan. • To instill values and importance of lepidoptera in our ecosystem to our youths. • To instigation the foundation of research to youths. INTRODUCTION (LEPIDOPTERA) • Lepidoptera is the second largest order and most fascinating group among the insects. • The total no. of known species of lepidoptera makes up about 10% of animal kingdom. (Srivastava, 2002) • Butterflies along with moths belong to the order Lepidoptera (lepido = scale; ptera = wings). • 1,60,000 described species of lepidoptera (Kriestensen & Skalski, 1999) MAIN CHARACTERS OF ORDER Y The scientific name of the order, Lepidoptera, is derived from one of their main characteristics, namely their having wings covered in tiny scales (from the Greek lepidos = scale and pteron = wing). -

They are very sensitive and are severely affected by the slightest variations in the environment. They form an important biota of the class Insecta, belonging to the order Lepidoptera. Butterflies have large, often brightly coloured and conspicuous wings used for fluttering type of flight. They form an important part of food chain and are good bio-indicators for evaluation of habitat change and variations in landscape structures. Butterflies and their caterpillars are dependent on specific host plants, thus the diversity of butterfly indirectly reflects the plant diversity of a particular area. Hence, the present study was undertaken to study the butterfly diversity of Karnatak University (KU) campus, Dharwad, in order to create a base line data for further research. In the present survey a total number of 36 species belonging to 25 genera falling under five different families were observed, identified and photographed. The members of the Nymphalidae family found to be dominated with 16 species under 11 genera followed by Pieridae (8), Papilionidae (6), Lycaenidae (4) and Hesperidae (2). The abundance of butterfly species in a particular area is directly proportional to the type and abundance of different flowers, plants in those respective areas. -

Abstract The present study was carried out from Sindh, Pakistan during 2012-2013. A total of 1,964 specimens of butterflies were collected from the different localities of Sindh, Pakistan. The identification was done through available literature. Among collected specimens, 67 species belonging to 41 genera of 16 subfamilies falling in 6 families were identified. Our result showed that Lycaenidae was the richest family; comprising 19 species followed by Pieridae comprising 18 species, Nymphalidae 11 species, Hesperiidae 11 species, Danaidae comprising 5 species and Papilionidae comprising 03 species were reported. The present study was first time attempt to make the checklist of butterfly fauna of Sindh, Pakistan. Keywords:Butterfly fauna, Checklist, Sindh, Pakistan.
