Isekai No Seikishi Monogatari
Tenchi Muyo! War on Geminar ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Intro: The Tenchi Muyo series is huge, and the canonicity may not be particularly clear to the uninitiated. This part of the series and Jump take place after the start of the main timeline and GXP. The story takes place in the world of Germinar, and you no longer need to worry about multiversal goddesses, planet-busting trees, and other such things for your stay. Following Masaki Tenchi's half-brother Masaki Kenshi, this story would normally start with the attack on the Swan (a flying landship), but it now starts with the arrival of Kenshi at the Summoning Ruins still not long before. This world is bathed in high levels of a relatively nondescript energy. This prevents nearly all technology from working above a certain altitude in addition to making others extremely sick, eventually to the point of death, should they stay in these areas. Even the pilots of this world's holy mecha cannot enter these areas or they both will shutdown. This has lead to the higher lands being covered in mostly normal flora and the occasional super flora. The people of this world have coped with this by building their cities lower than the effected areas and carving out valleys for travel. Take your pick of the purchases available below with the 1,000CP (choice points) provided, and be sure to read the notes. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Origins: How you start in this world. Your age is 15 and your gender stays the same. Both can be changed for 100CP. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Drop-In (Free) – You just show up in the Holy Land one day. -

My odyssey through graduate school was indeed a long night of the soul, and without mustard-seed/mountain-moving faith, this journey would have been stymied a long time before now. Profound thanks to my utterly phenomenal dissertation committee as well, and my chair, Dr. Jerrilyn McGregory, especially. Japanese Animation Guide: the History of Robot Anime
Commissioned by Japan's Agency for Cultural Affairs Manga, Animation, Games, and Media Art Information Bureau Japanese Animation Guide: The History of Robot Anime Compiled by Mori Building Co., Ltd. 2013 Commissioned by Japan's Agency for Cultural Affairs Manga, Animation, Games, and Media Art Information Bureau Japanese Animation Guide: The History of Robot Anime Compiled by Mori Building Co., Ltd. 2013 Addition to the Release of this Report This report on robot anime was prepared based on information available through 2012, and at that time, with the exception of a handful of long-running series (Gundam, Macross, Evangelion, etc.) and some kiddie fare, no original new robot anime shows debuted at all. But as of today that situation has changed, and so I feel the need to add two points to this document. At the start of the anime season in April of 2013, three all-new robot anime series debuted. These were Production I.G.'s “Gargantia on the Verdurous Planet," Sunrise's “Valvrave the Liberator," and Dogakobo and Orange's “Majestic Prince of the Galactic Fleet." Each was broadcast in a late-night timeslot and succeeded in building fanbases. The second new development is the debut of the director Guillermo Del Toro's film “Pacific Rim," which was released in Japan on August 9, 2013. The plot involves humanity using giant robots controlled by human pilots to defend Earth’s cities from gigantic “kaiju.” At the end of the credits, the director dedicates the film to the memory of “monster masters” Ishiro Honda (who oversaw many of the “Godzilla” films) and Ray Harryhausen (who pioneered stop-motion animation techniques.) The film clearly took a great deal of inspiration from Japanese robot anime shows. -

Mobile Suit Breakdown Season 1 Episode 1.2: No, She’s Too Strong! Mobile Suit Gundam Episode 2: Destroy Gundam! Podcast Transcript Original Publication: September 8th, 2018 Intro music plays THOM: This is Mobile Suit Breakdown, a podcast about Japanese Sci-Fi mega-franchise Mobile Suit Gundam for new fans, old fans, and not-yet fans, where we watch, analyze, and review all forty years of the iconic anime in the order it was made. We research its influences, examine its themes, and discuss how each piece of the Gundam canon fits within the changing context in Japan and the world from 1979 to today. THOM: This is Mobile Suit Breakdown Episode 1.2: No, She’s Too Strong!, and we are your hosts. I’m Thom, giant robot enthusiast and real, honest human being, I swear! NINA: And I’m Nina, Gundam n00b and podcast enthusiast. THOM: We now return you to the destruction of the Side 7 space colony, already in progress. This episode sees our heroes shift from defense to escape, from the terror of the battle to the dread of knowing that the colony is bleeding oxygen and Zeon is coming back. There is no way out for them--except aboard the very same Federation warship that inadvertently led Zeon here in the first place, and brought the war to this neglected little island in space. THOM: This week we’re going to talk a bit about how the events on Side 7 reflect two related events during World War II. The first one was the bombing and firebombing of Japanese cities by American forces during the war, but the second was the Battle of Okinawa. -
From the Japanese Traditional Edo Culture to Anime and Manga Takuji

From the 1970s to the 1980s, Japan gained confidence in its ability to “make things” because consumers around the world embraced its manufactured products such as electric home appliances and automobiles with open arms in preference to the products of other advanced countries. However, at the beginning of the Heisei era, the bubble in the Japanese economy suddenly burst and Japan’s gross national product (GNP) plummeted, resulting in what is termed “the burst of economic bubble of 1990.” Relatively cheaper manufactured products from other Asian countries gained precedence over Japanese products. In response, many Japanese manufacturers moved their production plants to other Asian countries, particularly settling in mainland China, where labor costs were lower than in Japan. The recession was protracted and the Japanese people suffered from a sense low confidence in their abilities to overcome the recession. By the late 1990s, Prime Ministers Mori and, subsequently, Koizumi responded to Japanese political leader Heizo Takenaka’s advocacy of an information technology (IT) revolution in Japan as a way to beat the recession.
